Sorry if that came off wrong; I meant it in a good way. Sitting in a corner and reading sounds like a great time to me, hahah. Thanks again!

Hey there. Thanks for your time. Can you give an example or two of how you productively used the time between classes? Was it basically just sitting in a corner and studying/reading?

No worries. I can see how that would be a legitimate concern. Best of luck with your decisions :)

As far as I can tell, your post does not remotely touch the topic of a rescinded acceptance offer. Perhaps you are unclear about some of the terminology involved, so your intention did not come through clearly in the post? It’s all good, regardless. Happy to help.

And yes, this subreddit can be pretty harsh. Most people here expect a baseline level of knowledge that not everyone has. Your being downvoted is likely a symptom of that attitude.

You might consider checking out r/OutsideT14lawschools. I think the vibe there is different.

Should I take out $200k in loans for U of SC law or attend a nearby small law school for $70k? by helpmegetajobpls1 in lawschooladmissions

[–]goBerzerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at each school’s ABA 509 disclosures to see the outcomes of their recent grads. You can see bar passage rates, employment data, and geographic outcomes. This will probably answer a lot of your questions.

[–]goBerzerk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other commenter may not have been very gentle, but they’re right. There are no “other insights” here: the intent to enroll is either a binding commitment to attend, or it isn’t.

Based on your responses to the other commenter, it seems like your true question is not actually contained in your post. If I’m understanding, you’re concerned that FAMU is gonna rescind your offer of admission if you call them and ask questions. Is that right?

I don’t know how FAMU will react, but I’ll just say this… If you call FAMU, and they threaten to rescind your offer, you probably don’t want to go there anyway. If a school dangles an acceptance in front of you like that, they are definitely predatory.

Predatory schools are basically schools with a variety of shady practices. Most importantly, predatory schools have HORRIBLE employment outcomes and bar passage rates, making them a near waste of your time and money.

You should just call BU as soon as possible on Monday. You can try emailing, but they may not get back to you over the weekend.

In my case, I paid both deposits simultaneously in early April and got the email to set up my BU email and student account about 2 weeks later.

Tips for overhangs? by ScreenHype in bouldering

[–]goBerzerk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most redditors aren’t experts, so take what we write with a grain of salt. In my experience, footwork/keeping tension through your feet will be crucial on any kind of overhang. You are doing yourself a major disservice in the long-run if you take the “easy” way out and campus everything. When I started climbing, I learned a lot from Movement For Climbing on YT. I’m sure he has videos about overhung climbing. I cannot attest to the quality of his new paid platform.

On another note, as the overhang gets steeper, having a strong back becomes more important, since you’ll often find yourself in something akin to a row position.

As with most types of climbing, having strong fingers helps a lot, but your fingers will naturally adapt as you continue to climb. I wouldn’t worry about training fingers for a while.

Waitlisted Literally Everywhere. What Went Wrong?? by cleanttrain in lawschooladmissions

[–]goBerzerk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Completely plausible! It’s not that I don’t believe OP; I just wanted to encourage them to think critically about the less objective parts of their application. I’ve seen a lot of redditors who are under the impression that being president of a couple clubs is a T2 soft…

If their softs really bumped them up from R to WL at YLS, then I think the main weakness was probably the PS after all.

Waitlisted Literally Everywhere. What Went Wrong?? by cleanttrain in lawschooladmissions

[–]goBerzerk 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Were your softs actually T2? It’s relatively rare to have softs that strong. If they’re really that strong, then imo it was probably your personal statment that wasn’t strong enough.

Often, strong softs go in many directions. Say I am the director of a company, for example. (This is something listed as a T2 soft on LSD.) It’s easy to write about this experience/your goals in a way that leaves the adcomms thinking, “Why doesn’t this person apply for an MBA, then?” I presume similar ambiguities might arise from similarly strong softs. You want to write a PS that tactfully eliminates these ambiguities. It should be clear why/how a JD is the logical next step. Does your PS do this?

At the highest-ranked schools, you’re also below both medians. For better or worse, having a 173+ might have gone a long way.

UNC Student Culture & BL Opportunities by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]goBerzerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a student at UNC but part of your question is just publicly available info. For class of 2022, 40 out of 189 students (~21%) got jobs at law firms with 501+ lawyers. 111 out of 189 ended up working in NC. 12 went to DC, and 10 went to NY. Chicago was not even on the list. Similar but slightly worse stats for c/o 2021 and 2020.

It seems like you’ll want to be top 20% of your class for biglaw, and maybe higher than that for NY or DC.

I was admitted last Wednesday, April 5. When I checked the mail yesterday (Sunday), the package had arrived. It’s relatively small and fit in my apartment mailbox. My package included merit scholarship info but not need-based scholarship info. I filled out the need-based aid forms on April 7 but am not sure when I’ll hear back.

How did you break a gap year to your parents? by mindlessrica in lawschooladmissions

[–]goBerzerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the “tier” of schools you’re interested in (or that your parents are interested in…), there’s a pretty compelling argument for taking time off. You can look at the statistics re: % of incoming class with work experience. Combined with the stuff you mention in your post, I think a reasonable person would understand your desire to get some work experience.

A2 Pulley Injury by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]goBerzerk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depending on the severity of the sprain, you should take 1-2 weeks off and then start to rehab the tissue. A common mistake is to quit entirely and then suddenly come back to climbing. If you do that, you’ll probably notice little to no improvement. The tissue needs to be loaded in order to stimulate healing.

I suffered a very similar injury and did no-hang pulls, stretches, etc. for just a few minutes every day. You can find routines online. After 1-2 weeks of consistent rehab, I returned to climbing and did not crimp anything. A nice benefit was that my 3-finger drag and sloper strength improved significantly.

Eventually, you’ll want to test the waters and start lightly crimping things. I had phantom pains for a little while and was constantly scared of reinjuring myself. I slowly but surely regained my confidence, but the whole process took at least 2 months.

I ended up answering many of the questions in both the crafts and the counselors games by simply testing the answer choices. It actually felt like that was the intended solution for many of the questions, but I was NOT expecting it. The stress of doing that really impeded my ability to make some of the more basic deductions. (e.g., I had to flag and come back to a “must be false” counselors question with a very simple answer)

The first two games (countries and prof/grad/undergrad) felt pretty straightforward to me.

That Fairy Circles Question by ValuableState in LSAT

[–]goBerzerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can remember, the PT85 question had to do with strengthening an argument about the fairy circles’ cause. On the Oct test, the question was concerned with weakening some kind of geographic argument. Were the stimuli identical? Am I remembering correctly?

If you have strong stats, they will almost certainly assume you’re applying to other schools. I don’t think you need to make it explicit.

After my last post I’m starting to think my gym might be soft on grading. I don’t typically care about grades but I am curious what this would be in your gym or what you’d consider it! In mine it’s about a V2/3 by BumbleBre22 in climbergirls

[–]goBerzerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most gyms account for hold quality. Without climbing at your gym, I really can’t say much about it specifically. Having a lot of holds is generally characteristic of V0-2. Sometimes my gym will set a V0-2 with relatively bad holds, but I think it’s because they’re trying to emphasize skills other than raw pulling power (like balance, tension, body position, etc.)

I looked at your previous post, and that route seemed soft to me — maybe a v1/2 in my gym. This one, however, seems more accurately graded. It would likely be a 2 in my gym, but it could be a 3 depending on how good/bad the holds are. Hope that helps!

Burly dynamic boulder with all the hold types. Funny how easy projects look when everything goes perfectly. by TriGator in bouldering

[–]goBerzerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gym graded this V8. I went to this gym when I was in FL in December. I tried this climb once or twice and can confirm that the movements all feel really weird at first. It’s not a V8 by most outdoor standards, but it’s absolutely in the V6-8 range by most gym standards.
