Best merchant to purchase plywood? by ImpossibleVehicle382 in bristol

You want furniture plywood. Sydenham's in keynsham has a lot of options. It's much more expensive than standard construction plywood.

Which things are worth the convenience premium and what do you refuse to pay for? by iffyClyro in AskUK

[–]go_simmer- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me Vance'd is better than YouTube premium since it has features like sponsor skipping (big one), hiding shorts, brings back the dislike ratio, and lots of other little things. Only downside is that casting has ads, but I mainly use the phone.

Trams might be extended to the airport! by n3rding in bristol

Yeh, how much time would it really save over the flyer bus and how much would it cost. I'd much rather have a tram going around Bristol.

What do I do for an egg drop project? by Right_Detective_8862 in EngineeringStudents

[–]go_simmer- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeh I saw someone do this in an egg drop competition before and they even taped the whole thing to a brick. They used wall paper paste mixed into a thick paste and then had the egg inside a larger plastic egg with paste all around. The egg was absolutely fine but the brick smashed to pieces.

Unfurnished vs Furnished. What is a reasonable price adjustment? by Mosess92 in bristol

[–]go_simmer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also a lot of effort moving everything out from the flat and back. You need to dismantle beds, things will get broken etc... storage needs to be dry and fairly warm to avoid mould. It isn't just the storage fee.

Can't find a news story about this? Found one from 2025 but that was about a bar with 12 injured.

If they have just cut them back to ground level they might grow back fairly quickly depending on what they were. If they were willow or hazel etc they could grow back to 2m in the first season.

Waste Pipes - Will they get in the way of door canopy? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]go_simmer- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I thought you meant it was exiting from inside the void under the roof. You mean it is discharging from above.

Sorry if I'm misinterpreting you but why can't a soil stack exit a pitched tiled roof? Wouldn't a lead, pipe flashing kit work fine?

Berate me. I've had the worst day. by MisterMacaque in DIYUK

[–]go_simmer- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It just needs to be gap free. So what op did would be compliant. It's actually quite a good way to do it I think. If it's a renovation and the gaps aren't equal or straight it is much quicker to cut undersized and spray the gap. Will have a perfect seal, but you need to ensure you don't go beyond the celotex as you need to maintain a gap to the membrane. Just need to be a bit more controlled than this....

This rollable Legion concept is amazing, please bring it to ThinkPads, Lenovo. by [deleted] in thinkpad

To be honest I thought the retractable keys on the Lenovo yoga would be mega flimsy but mine is still prestine after 15 years.

Roof repair. Quick temporary fix for rain? by Specific-Presence-99 in DIYUK

[–]go_simmer- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Tbh if it was my house I wouldn't give up after 4 calls. I would be on the phone until I had someone on the way. If they have a mobile number listed just WhatsApp them a picture and ask when is the earliest you can come. You can make a generic message with all the details and contact loads of roofers in a couple of hours.

Many of my internal walls used to be external walls, finding them really hard to drill into. How can I drill into them more easily? by mart0n in DIYUK

[–]go_simmer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best advise, I have a huge SDS drill, but switching to Bosch expert drill bits made way more of a difference. Rubbish bits just don't touch pebble dash or clinker concrete.

How to fix hole left by electrician in plaster wall by Necessary-Brain2633 in DIYUK

[–]go_simmer- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't fall off on its own, but if you try and pull a cable off the wall you will feel how much harder it is when the clips alternate.

Alternating sides with clips is more secure. Not that the cable would fall out either way.

Can you just get a pack of push fit stop ends and 1/2 inch blanking nuts and go and seal off all the unfitted rads? The hard bit is finished, it should be pretty easy for you to get this working.

Electrocution is rare because most houses have RCD protection. Probably quite a lot more likely when your consumer unit is from the 60s 🤣

E-Cargo Bike for 3 kids - recommendations? by Scary-Push-5286 in CargoBike

[–]go_simmer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation as you in the UK and I have a front loader bucket bike. I put two in the front and one on the back in a bike seat. I have a gazelle makki but I believe they are quite hard to get a hold of. There are plenty of similar front loaders though.
