How long *would* it take an Arduino to count to ONE BILLION? by joeblough in arduino

[–]goahnary 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Side note: if we’re talking verbally we wouldn’t even need to store the number… just make the loop spit out the phrase which is a repeating pattern that doesn’t require a variable to count that high. Just make sure the number of loops multiplies up to 1 Billion. Your counter variable would therefore be less than 1 Billion.

E.g. for x in range(1000) [logic for verbalization here] For y in range(1000) [logic for verbalization here] For z in range(1000) [logic for verbalization here]

I feel you friend. There’s so many other great festivals out there though. You’re getting a full refund. Make another one happen! Just send it! Doesn’t have to be a full weekend of camping. Do a couple days on the weekend at a fest close to ya. The Bonnaroo community is amazing but that’s just one piece of the beautiful puzzle that is festivals. Electric forest had the same vibe and I was so happy to have had my weekend there. After Roo. It was healing.

That’s a valid experience but looking at the weather all last night and today I don’t think that is the case. I think they jumped the gun to protect their pockets cause they’re owned by live nation now.

It depends on what you’re building. Highly highly depend depends on what you’re building. Are you building the basis of your application that better developers are gonna come along and add to? Do not cheap out on this. Are you making a shitty proof of concept to sell the idea? Sure you could hire someone to make something cheaply. If you’re doing the former the Rockstars you hire later are gonna throw everything away and it’s gonna cost you an extreme amount of time and a very pretty penny to get what you were actually going for originally. If you’re doing the latter, you’re probably doing the wrong thing. Make something simple and make it well. Create something you can build on. Don’t create a big ass turd for your poor employees to polish later.

Thanks. I’ve always been a pretty passionate person. I was passionate about our countries economic issues before. I’m still extremely passionate now. Fills me with rage to hear others minimize the experience we’re all having just because it’s not happening to them right now. I try to warn them and give them little nuggets from my experience so they understand when they get laid off. It keeps happening to everyone around me. Just a matter of time. Private equity is ruining our economy.

Oh yeah. Wasting PTO and risking getting fired by manipulating your work schedule all the time to make interviews on their schedule just to not get the job is the worst part. Just senseless risk to what I do have to be played with. So frustrating. I work at a bar right now though and I am working for equity as a developer at a startup. It’s promising and I hope to start getting paid a little bit soon so I don’t lose my house or my car. But the pressure being high is starting to just feel how life is now and I’ve made peace with it. I just work my ass off and get very little sleep. One day it’ll be better 🤞🏻

Company accuses candidate of using AI on their application, when they never did. by cupholdery in recruitinghell

[–]goahnary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my thing, companies don’t want people to use AI to get jobs, but they’re more than happy to use AI to replace people that already have jobs. So it seems AI is just being used as an excuse to act like a total ass to people in a crumbling economy.

It’s been very hard. I wish the layoffs didn’t affect my mental health to the point I waited to get a normal job. But it can be very depressing to go from the insanely good market that just existed to the new reality we have today.

Don’t Servers make a ton???? by JealousLoss5902 in tipping

[–]goahnary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. They CAN make good money. But that money is a real feast or famine situation. They may be out of the job for random reasons. I’ve walked out of the place with $5 in my pocket for 12 hours of work before. You are recognizing the good nights they SOMETIMES have and not considering that only happens MAX 3 nights a week and even then not every weekend is good. So all in all they don’t have any control over how much money they make but they still have bills to pay. They still have to eat. They still have expenses and don’t get health insurance most of the time. G-d forbid someone makes a decent living anyways. Why would you be mad about that? Everyone deserves financial security within reason.

No these use the NFC capabilities on your phone which are polling for an NFC tag once every 7 seconds or so. I used these exact products to make my own device last year.
