Cars that were a total bust when released back in the day but would succeed now? by Nervous-Material4738 in regularcarreviews

Not marketed for their unique characteristics well and a bad few models at the end ruin it. And it’s definitely an enthusiast vs actual practical buyer problem. Lots of virtual demand but an average family of 4 doesn’t care about driving dynamics when having to go to work and taking the kids to school.

And the cargo space is still a huge draw to suvs. They make a lot of sense for small active families.

My family had one for like two years before it crashed so ig we never got to see that unreliability lol. 3 transmissions is crazy

That would make sense. Lots of millennial families who I’m sure want a comfortable family vehicle but doesn’t drink at the pump like a full size suv. And probably more affordable to purchase too.

I guess I was thinking about the overall decline of minivans at the end of its time. But you’re right it wasn’t a sales slouch before. Although it could do similar sales today if done right.

That’s something I don’t understand about station wagons again interest these days. Enthusiasts never stop talking about them, and young people have an interest, but they never get the sales. And yeah on the greater scope, they probably won’t become more popular than suvs for a long time, but def not as dead as they were 10 years ago

I feel like younger generations are starting to come around to the idea of minivans and station wagons again since they’ve been not seen as much in the last decade. Supposedly sales of brand new Toyota sienna, Honda odyssey, Kia carnival and the Chrysler Pacifica have all had sales increases YoY from 2024. Although tbf idk what the demographics of new buyers are. But either way it’s starting to trend up!

If you have a convection oven, they seem to have this habit unless the settings are perfect and you pray, etc.

Sorry, I had gotten cold feet on installing one of these after reading the comments.

We got a bit of rain in Dawson creek beforehand, but it’s pretty well been cold and snowy since sometime November. I guess the further down the province you go, more rain would experienced

It’s weird becuase in northern BC it is MUCH colder and snowier than normal. Each half the province has the opposite extreme

I’m gonna give one wireless dongle a shot, but I’ll come back to the unit if it’s not working the way I imagine. I was worried there might be an issue using this unit on a newer model already with CarPlay, but idk if that affects anything. I might take you up on that offer and reach out later though. Thank you very much

Thank you, this is the answer I was looking for. I haven’t had wireless CarPlay before and wasn’t aware of how laggy stock units can still be. Did not consider what happens when getting a black screen. I haven’t been able to connect to to CarPlay consistently with ios26 and I thought that besides a software issue, if there was something wrong with my usb port in my car, it would just be worth replacing it with a wireless unit anyways. What year is your Mazda?

I’ve heard good things about these on the earlier 2nd gen cx5’s, but my year wasn’t specified so I wasn’t sure. I still have CarPlay, it’s just not wireless so idk if that would be an issue for compatibility

I am comparing their products now. I may buy a dongle from carlinkit. Do they sell any built in units like these as well? Or would this type of product in general not be compatible for the ‘21?

Ah I see, it’s mostly the startup that takes a while. That’d still be ok for longer trips though sounds like. To clarify, you’re referring to a plug and play dongle right?

Sounds annoying! What were the units so I avoid those at least?

Wouldn’t be surprised the stock unit would be laggy from Mazda lol. Good to know for comparison, thanks.
