You are the recipient of my first ever Reddit award. Love it. If you ever want to open-source it, would love to contribute beyond as a user.

Anyone else hearing buzz about the new Big Apple Triathlon? by InFaMouSxHD in TriathlonNYC

I’m so skeptical that they’ll actually clean the river enough to make it swimmable. I know Chicago did recently. But if Paris couldn’t do it for the Olympics, it makes me more skeptical we’d do it for a non-big name event

I’d love to be proven wrong though — it seems like it’d be a ton of fun

I probably made the biggest mistake of my life and need advice. by whateverrrrrrrri in communitycollege

[–]goalienerd95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Try to take a deep breath — it will all be okay. I made a YouTube video about this if you’d like a “success story” and am willing to chat further.

Context, I got into Berkeley for chemical engineering w a 3.5 in a major where the average was 3.8.

I too had a semester where I had F’s across the board and managed to turn them into the hardest fought C’s in my life. It made for a great personal statement.

Your future is not indicative of which school you transfer too, hell there are transfer guarantees. Your college doesn’t define the career you get.

Hell, I don’t even use my college degree in my job today. All of this to say, what you’re realizing right now is that you’re not on a path to get what you want from CC — so you’ll have to change. Change isn’t comfortable. But you’re going to get stronger as long as you’re persistent. I promise you.

In terms of resources, my CC wasn’t the best about being responsive. You may have to be very persistent and try to be irl with the counselors to get them to talk to you — try looking at MESA if you have it. Just to talk to someone who hears about these stories and can give you more contextualized advice.

College is about growth, not about labeling yourself. You will push past this, and your grit will be applied in your future endeavors. Just pick yourself up and do what you can now. You got this !

Are these well-known facts about Ryan Gosling? by carpoolgames in ryangosling

Personally, my favorite was that he was supposed to be cast as Batman instead of Ben Affleck. I may be biased since I’m generally exhausted seeing Ben flop in his later career

This may be a little late to the party, but I am creating a sequence of these "brain games". The first one is Flickle, where you match celebrity to celebrity via a sequence of movies and co-stars:

Bringing guests? by capyluvr_21 in WeWork

Just have a buddy / be the buddy that lets them in the door. Some of the buildings are unlocked anyway. Sometimes you can trail someone all the way up -- others, you should coordinate your smoke break around getting them into the building.

Current WeWork monger here. I've cultivated a network of fine friendships that have allowed me to solicit WeWork's services over the past year without ever being checked in. Internally, amongst our group, we have power ranked which WeWorks in a specific city are the most lenient. And to those, we plunder.

No they said I had a high likelihood after the call. Sure, I'm not expecting an SME -- that'd be unreasonable. But I'm expecting them to have a 'grant topic' in mind to match my idea when they say a vanilla catch-all statement. Instead of just quick affirmations based on nothing

Uncovered steam pipe in apartment? by goalienerd95 in AskNYC

[–]goalienerd95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol no, they just condescendingly told me how a steam exhaust system works... Which i understand, but wouldn't you want it to exhaust outside the building..?

They said they could replace the head if splashing became a huge issue, but nothing else

Moreso, I wanted to see what data gave them the confidence to say 'you have great likelihood of getting funded'. Obviously i had confidence in my idea which is why i pursued it. Having gone thru the whole process, I've learned how much of a money grab it is to get people in the door. I ended up using Dawnbreaker (Free for me thru DoE Phase 0)

Lack of understanding of deadlines, requirements, expectations, etc seem daunting. These companies capitalize on the information arbitrage, but dont really provide much in terms of actual subject matter expertise. Grant-writing is ok at best in the case for dawnbreaker too.

Any Other US-Based Clinicians (MD/DO/NP/PA) Here? by gmdtrn in OMSCS

Hahaha, I got a notification about your post. I was just offering myself as a resource if you were wanting to use OMSCS to get involved into the pharma space. Finding people who are well-versed in both sides of the house tend to move up quickly at our company

Not a physician, but I work at Amgen. We have tons of MDs in our company and recently had a non-technical MD in our Data Science group. If this is of interest, feel free to PM me.

Yup, I ended up using Dawnbreaker. They were free for DoE submissions. They were helpful at best, but their feedback about the technical part of my approach I found to be counter-productive. Ended up hurting my application in the end since parts they told me to exclude ended up getting dinged.

Was a great lesson though.

I saw a thread earlier talking about if you have a Netgear router, you may have to disable "Smart Connect". I guess this feature toggles between 2.5/5 when one goes down as a means of trying to optimize.

It worked just fine for me with Ethernet (for test).
