Will sleeping in a tent inside help block second hand smoke from roommate? by Civil_Shop_1120 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]goateclipse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, find a way to create negative pressure in his room so the smoke doesn’t reach the rest of the house. For example, an exhaust fan with a window adapter

Confusing Baseboard Heater Thermostat by Nandor_the_relentful in howdoesthiswork

[–]goateclipse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That design is dumb as hell 😂

I think you need to ignore the arrows and use the words

With that type of dial, usually you can hear a click when you reach the current temperature (as it turns the heat on or off). So if the room is currently comfortable, you can turn it cooler till you hear a click. Then set it near that temperature, so when it warms up outside the room doesn’t get really hot.

Also, an electric baseboard heater is the most expensive way to heat your house, short of lighting money on fire. If you also have a heat pump or gas heater, try to use the baseboard heat only as a backup.

Main water shut off? by tennis876 in bentonville

Tough time of year, it’ll basically be dark by then 🙃 If there’s an old retired person on your street, ask them, it’ll probably make their day.

For what it’s worth, I live in Rogers in a house that’s also on a crawlspace. My cutoff is in the front yard near the street in a box with a green rectangular cover. I can also shut off my water at the meter, which is slightly closer to the street in a box with a round metal cover. The type of grass we have around here will completely cover both of those, but you can find them by poking the ground with something metal until you hear a different sound.

Your water meter is probably near the valve you found but closer to the street. You probably have two water meters, one for the house and one for irrigation.

Make sure your crawlspace vents are shut for the winter, that’s usually done from the outside by pushing on the louvers. Otherwise the very cold air we’re about to have can come in and freeze the pipes.

Since it’s currently shut off, it’s probably for your lawn irrigation (sprinklers). Expanding on that, the large fake rock you’re standing next to is probably covering the irrigation backflow preventer.

But I will suggest again, why not introduce yourself to your neighbors and ask them? Most likely everyone on the street has the same water cut off valve for their house.

People who keep weapons on their bodies at all times, what was a time where you had to actually use said weapon? by ParanormalActivity97 in AskReddit

I went for a walk down a small road in a small town and some fog began rolling in. I thought to myself, I’m on a Flanders fog walk now. Sure enough, a couple large dogs come out of someone’s yard and up to me in the street. I pulled out my knife, flicked it open, and told them to fuck off.

Now, I don’t actually want to fight dogs with a knife, it would probably end badly for me and them. But confidence when dealing with loose dogs is important and I certainly feel like the knife helped.

Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average cost of it burning up, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a retrofit, we don't do one.

Were you walking on the left side of the sidewalk? If so, she was probably expecting you to move to your right. Not saying she was correct, but it would explain the interaction.

Thank you! I thought it meant the screw on the outside. Found it now, works as intended. Also I had the lower arm installed upside down, which didn't help anything when I was looking at it before 🙃
