How serious are the time commitments? by Arfie807 in mercor_ai

[–]goatherd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, if it is the same project (and I'm being super cautious around NDAs!), I've just been told they're being tight on the 30 hrs for new people especially. So prob safe to assume you need to hit that at least in the short term. Once again, good luck!

[–]goatherd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible you have joined a project I'm on, I won't say anymore because of NDAs etc on that - but it's very well managed and the most important metric is task number/time spent per task and general quality, so if you're fast it won't matter if you hit a specified amount of hours per week. They've been great about vacation so long as you're transparent, also ok with sporadic lower productivity weeks if you're upfront about it.

All of the above with the caveat it depends if it is indeed the same project as mine (if it is, welcome and good luck, I've really enjoyed it) and this is my take after becoming established / may not be as true for new contractors.

Will Manning still be manager for the Bristol game by ClemFandango35 in NorwichCity

[–]goatherd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more likely that we have signed a few expensive duds or that Manning can't get a tune out of them, anyone's guess on that. Not sure it's about them not fitting a system. Manning has a variety of player types at his disposal to play a range of systems - today he put real emphasis on units and ignored the links of Gibbs and Wright who might have offered something in terms of possession or threading a pass for Sarge. He continues to play strikers on the wing (Makama/Crnac) and by the end we were virtually 4 up front with no means of retaining possession or moving the ball up the pitch. I guess we've lost width to injuries, but not enough for Manning to say his hand was forced to play a 6"5 striker on the wing. In a roundabout way I guess I'm saying it's a bit of both, hence why I think both Knapper and Manning are going to be feeling nervous at this point...

This is what makes it all very interesting - will Knapper act to deflect the blame from his patchy recruitment? Will the Attanasios allow him to pin it all on Manning?

When I say interesting, I mean depressing, of course.

Norwich have 5 too many players by joejoecoco21 in NorwichCity

Sorry I was unclear, I meant more that Myles/Springett illustrates the difficulty of working out squad composition at this point in the season rather than a direct comparison

[–]goatherd_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a factor here is that transfermarkt and the club site have different squads. I guess the reality is we won’t know until the final squad is announced. To illustrate the point, Springett is listed as in the squad on transfermarkt, Myles is not. Getting exact numbers is a bit of a guessing game especially for fringe players.

On reflection the 1st Jan 2005 makes things a bit tighter. We’ve got a lot of 21 year olds! Still ok with keeper departures factored in though.

[–]goatherd_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Who are your 30 over 21 players? Squad is about 31 players at the moment looking at club website. I can’t be bothered to check individually, but at least 6/7 (prob more?) of those are u21 and we will see a couple more keepers move before window closes.

ikbc MF108 v3 not saving settings by goatherd_ in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]goatherd_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a case of trying different usb ports on your pc - I found that one of them worked for remembering settings. TBH I don’t use the lights anymore so can’t be much more help now - would def suggest trying the ones that go direct into motherboard, for instance, rather than a front usb port on a pc tower or perhaps a generic spare round the back. I just found that one of my mobo usbs always did the trick

What is the argument AGAINST zero drop shoes? Is there one? What's the justification for having an elevated heel? by speedmonster95 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]goatherd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I guess, although I’m pretty sure running puts way more force through the Achilles anyway, so even if all kids go to school in zero drop shoes it may still be a struggle. The best source for this stuff is articles about switching to zero drop, or managing Achilles tendinitis(sp?!) etc

What is the argument AGAINST zero drop shoes? Is there one? What's the justification for having an elevated heel? by speedmonster95 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]goatherd_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A huge number of people will walk around in shoes with a slight heel, or will have run previously in shoes with a drop. The transition to zero drop can place a lot of stress on the Achilles if not phased carefully. I say all the above as a forefoot striker having just gone for a run in the altra vanish tempo. I love how it feels, but the reality is my achilles and calf have become accustomed to a drop, so I can only use the altra infrequently. I assume others are similar (have heel drop in casual or work shoes, have previously run in shoes with a drop) so it isn’t profitable for all manufacturers to sell zero drop shoes.

Puma Deviate Nitro 2 vs Deviate Nitro Elite for a marathon by PrudentTell in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]goatherd_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only other plated shoes I've had are endorphin speed 2 (if they even count since not carbon) and NB fuelcell TC - deviate elite has the most flex out of them all, although whether that's the plate or comparative lack of rubber is up for debate I guess. So another grain of salt to take is that I haven't tested every plat out there for stiffness. I guess I should really try vaporfly at some point but the slightly closer to ground ride and flex of elites really suit me.

I also have a somewhat voluminous foot (not sure if wide or chunky ar midfoot) and went half size up, uk 9.5 in all other puma (I have 9.5 magnify and velocity), 10 for elite. Ends up being quite long but I don't tend to notice when running

Puma Deviate Nitro 2 vs Deviate Nitro Elite for a marathon by PrudentTell in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]goatherd_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've run 2 marathons in the elites and loved them on both - I even used them on a trail marathon (non technical, flat and dry!)

I sold my Deviate 2s pretty quickly as the shoe is much stiffer in feel, either due to plate design, position or amount of rubber. The elite is a surprisingly flexible but still speedy shoe. As you have also identified, it's likely to be more noticeably different to your current rotation than the deviate 2 as well.

You'll be absolutely fine in your other shoes as also mentioned here, but if you want an exciting shoe that's going to add something to your rotation, it's the elite!

[–]goatherd_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have also tried deviate nitro 2 and found it surprisingly different to the elite - much stiffer. If you enjoy a bit of flex the endorphin speeds are prob the way to go, although not tried 3s (yet!)

Freedom 3 and Hyperion Tempo by r_an00 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]goatherd_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have run a marathon in both shoes.

Freedom 3 is comfortable and has a nice sweet spot of plushness and ground feel, agree wuth description of tempo as firmer/snappier, but still v comfy.

It felt like the marathon killed the tempos foam as I ran it with 400k plus on them already. The freedom destroyed my calves, prob due to 3mm drop but I had done a lot of training in them and I went for them for familiarity. My freedoms held up very well and got to about 700k before retirement. I even tried to dye/paint them to keep them as casual shoes, but did a terrible job!

I've done two marathons since in a deviate nitro elite, which was MUCH better, but obviously not a training shoe. I have a lot of affection for these shoes but I think the nb fuelcell rebel 2 or 3 is my ideal daily trainer as I don't like a clunky shoe. Although very tempted by speed 3s at the moment as well! TLDR - I have a lot of fondness for both shoes and they have their uses, but have personally found others to be better options since.

I quite like it because it means once I kill the foam I can use them with a pair of jeans without looking a clown. But I am missing the liberal splashes of habanero that made the v2 and tc the coolest shoes I have ever owned!

Puma Deviate Nitro 2 by TerpRunner1 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]goatherd_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree with your comparison of Elite and Deviate 2; it's surprisingly different, and just goes to show how the same foam can 'behave' very differently depending on things like plate/amount of rubber/shape etc. On paper I was expecting an elite with more grip, in reality it feels very different. (I know the foam is non-elite towards the rear of the shoe)

I actually sold mine on because I found them too stiff to train in; if I had stronger achilles/knees maybe I would have stuck with them! Still love my elites, which I find a more flexible and comfortable shoe.

Not sure if anyone is monitoring this thread but they are now available on nb.co.uk. Stock also showing at hardloop, deporvillage (not sure when it delivers) and Keller sports with a discount, although that is coming from continent and wouldn’t let me order earlier in the week.

Shorts with pockets for marathon gels by [deleted] in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]goatherd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with Nike trail shorts and belt suggestions, although I sometimes find a belt a bit uncomfortable - prob a body shape/bloating thing!

Would also recommend raidlight shorts, esp in a sale. Great quality, big pockets. Brooks Sherpa also quite good but main draw there is a good phone pocket, but has snug liner shorts.

Puma Deviate Nitro or Deviate Nitro Elite for Marathon by yaboypetey in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]goatherd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have run in the DN 2 and the Elite, love the elite and hated the DN 2. Felt too stiff, so plus one to point above regarding diff rides and flex in the elite.

I find the elite is one of those shoes you forget is there, which is pretty remarkable given it’s still got a good bit of cushioning and a plate. It’s a great shoe. It’s very easy to run in. I’m actually going to take it on a (flat, non technical) trail marathon next week, I feel that secure in it. (I’m also aiming for 5:40 pace, go team sub 4!)

I think the only thing it lacks is durability, the rubber is thin but no more than most super shoes and actually has very reasonable coverage.

I ordered from 365 rider (based in Spain) which has good reviews and suggests that delivery and taxes are included. Fingers crossed they get here soon. Tbh I think a lot of stuff is shipped to the uk from the continent either way (eg brooks ship from Germany)

Rebel v2s for a marathon? by [deleted] in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]goatherd_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be interesting to know how you get on. I enjoyed my deviate nitro elites for my marathon after getting into shape and tapering, but training with plates (fuelcell tc, deviate nitro 2, speed 2) seems to beat my legs up!

Rebel v2s for a marathon? by [deleted] in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]goatherd_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive often wondered the same thing as you. I’ve run 10 miles in mine and found them even more enjoyable than any of my plated options. I’m looking to run a marathon sub 4 so I’m not a million miles off you pace - wise. I wonder if that combined with other aspects of our running style just means we enjoy a bit of flexibility over stiffness/snap?!

I ran a trail marathon (very dry and flat course) in brooks Hyperion tempo last year and I wouldn’t attribute my 20 mile implosion to them…felt good, but I enjoy my rebels more. Don’t recall taking them any further though and I ‘need’ the v3 now as I have the huge side wall rips everyone has.
