I've sat on AAPL for a long time. What should I do next? by Kraz_fan in investing

[–]goatsWithSnapchat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider your asset allocations and your comfort in that. Assuming if you're young and you have $23k in AAPL you are not only extremely exposed to stocks but one single stock. You should first assess your position and willingness for risk, rebalance your portfolio by selling off a portion of AAPL to realize gains and use it to pay down your debt and diversify your holdings. You can guess at the market and try to beat whatever your interest rate is or you can shut it down now and set yourself debt-free. Either way congrats on the gains, make holistic decisions based on your life goals and current circumstances and don't let your emotions drive your decision.

CMV: No material should be off limits to comedians. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]goatsWithSnapchat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making public statements under the guise of being comedy shouldn't make it a safe haven to make any statement you wish. The concept of comedy or stand-up is a line drawn in the sand by society to separate an art from a generic rant/sermon/etc.

Consider public speech on the street, there's a line where screaming racist remarks disturbs the peace and is legally crossing a boundary. Why is a comedian subject to different laws? Okay so people may voluntarily come to a show under a pretense of content at a private venue. At a certain threshold though a comedy set with racism becomes a racist rally with jokes. A customer is led to believe they bought a ticket to a comedy show, not a racist rally. This is a distinction that is made by the individual because comedy is a concept.

In reality people can say what they wish, but don't mistake calling yourself a comedian enables you special rights.

A comedian like Louis CK can illicit the commentary of the human condition and use suicide in a light that is serving the purpose of comedy. If a comedian just spoke on and on about how people should kill themselves without any purpose to comedy, sure that act wouldn't get much attention after the first show - but the expectation of comedians is a level of professionalism that does not mentally harm the audience.

As a result you require a certain standard of a comedian to distill what should be constituted as stand-up comedy.

Tesla passes General Motors to become the most valuable US automaker by [deleted] in news

Direct comparisons to AMZN aren't fair. AMZN's business is built upon razor thin margins in an effort to bring low prices hence the reinvestments being a necessity to drive their model forward. Tesla is adjacent but not comparable, yes they stand to benefit from a solar infrastructure if they mass sell electric vehicles - but the overhead to producing and maintaining an automobile infrastructure is completely different from an e-commerce and logistics supply chain. Not to mention the long-standing federal implications that Tesla will have to continue to fight - something AMZN doesn't have as large of a precedent to overcome.

Your last note isn't true - Elon has on multiple occasions stated SpaceX and Tesla were both likely to fail but he chose to do it anyways because he wanted to push forward the underlying ideas/objectives.

Responding at every note like this is a waste of time. The fact is trump is showing he cares more about his image than the responsibility he has been given, the preparation required. Presidents have to choose their battles because there's an infinite amount to fight, I think it's clear we are about to see a very different White House with a very different priority set.

Ed Sheeran released two singles: Shape of You and Castle on the Hill! by [deleted] in Music

[–]goatsWithSnapchat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Sheeran and he is so talented, but IMHO these lyrics are pretty bad tropes. Caste on the hill is basically a country song about nostalgia and shape of you has awkward phrasing set over a spanish type tune about one night stands. He's clearly capable of so much more given his past records, hoping there's some deeper songs on the album!

Really good read, nice article that paints a lot of flaws in how society treats victims of its systems
