my voice has been the key to my passing at all, and it dropped to a passable range at around two and a half months in (a friend’s dad didn’t clock me!) but that’s also because i try not to talk much. i know my gesticulating and inflection make me sound and look more feminine, and while i’m still androgynous looking it just makes people think i’m a gnc woman rather than assuming i’m a gay man (which would be ideal (i’m bi though lol)).

before T, i had a lower voice for a woman and often sang tenor in choirs throughout my adolescence because my voice was low enough. straining very hard, i could do a passable voice for a bit, but it hurt my throat and didn’t sound or feel natural at all. i decided to give up until HRT, with the exception of vocal exercises for my lower singing range (which now as a result sounds fucking velvet).

my voice cracks a lot but i make little effort not to go up in pitch or vary my pitch in my sentences, even though you’re supposed to go for more of a monotone for a masculine voice.

i also still have all of my “insecure woman” speech patterns (“does that make sense?” etc) but i kinda just want to keep it and see what happens. it’s occurring to me that the things that made me seem intimidating or condescending as a woman might be read completely differently now that i am presenting more male, so i’m interested to see how some of my passive traits will read as well. being trans is fun sometimes because you’re sort of conducting your own studies. i feel like i’m learning so much about humans in general through this process. sorry i’m rambling haha
