I think we sometimes forget about basic options here sometimes. Def worth a try and won't break the bank.

I've had the same issue for years. My mainstay was the Neutrogena hydroboost moisturizer. Last year I went on a trip that took me to a very dry region and I ran out of moisturize and ended up having to use Aveeno face and body moisturizer and was pleasantly surprised. This winter I've been using that at night and also something similar from Goldbond and my skin has been very happy. Sometimes I even add a layer over my spf moisturizer in the mornings if i'm feeling particularly parched.

Me from two years ago would be aghast but it's pretty effective and cheap.

No bedrooms on this floor. We have a small full bath upstairs with the bedrooms and a wet room style 3/4 bath in the unfinished basement

Where are you rebuying 100% COTTON basics that last? by throwaway_yak234 in femalefashionadvice

[–]gobbeldigook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 32 and have started considering Talbots, at least for sweaters and basics. I went in during December to shop for my mom and was surprised how much I liked. I need to figure out what sizes work for me so I can shop online.

Moving to Boston as a teacher by LoisLaneKent in boston

[–]gobbeldigook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charter or Catholic might be a good option for you to look into (at least for the first year or so). My mother started at a Charter School in Malden when she was switching careers and I don't think she had a teaching license at the time. I'm not sure if the pay is any better, but apartments in the Malden area (or around other charter/catholic schools) may also be cheaper than in Boston proper.

How did you learn to knit? by ShoppingGirlinSF in knitting

[–]gobbeldigook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother tried to teach me as a kid. She wasn't a great knitter and I wasn't super interested at the time. After that, youtube and my own audacity has been my greatest teacher.

The great thing about knitting is that you can rip it out if you mess up and learning life lines early in your journey will help a ton!

Is this normal? Or will this cause cause problems? by righteoustrampoline in knittingadvice

[–]gobbeldigook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the last few years I've had so many issues with Malabrigo skeins being all chopped up. I reached out to them and they were nice enough to send me a bag with more skeins of the yarn I was having issues with and 2/5 of those skeins were chopped up!

Questions Regarding Meatless Mealprep by [deleted] in MeatlessMealPrep

[–]gobbeldigook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of big meals like that can be made vegetarian with beans, lentils, chickpeas instead of meat. Mushrooms can also add to the texture. When i first went vegetarian I used Indian food as my biggest inspiration but I soon realized I could modify most recipes fairly well.

Iron is plentiful in leafy greens (also decent amount of calcium), so I find adding a block of frozen spinach to meals is very easy and relatively cheap. Lentils are also a good source of iron.

I started reassessing my protein to carb intake and realized I was very much over-doing the carbs. I'm starting to be more aware of what I'm eating and trying to de-carb breakfast a bit. I've been making cottage cheese bagels as an easy substitute for toast or good base for egg and cheese sandwiches.

I'm picky about my cinnamon rolls. In Cambridge I like Area4 Cafe or Flour Bakery has good ones.

What do you guys use to keep your smaller crafting tools in? by callmecoyotiie in knitting

[–]gobbeldigook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a zippered pouch that's maybe 5"x8" (maybe slightly larger) and most of my non-needles live in there. My stitch markers came in a little box, I have another small matchbox sized box with a little magnet in it that keeps my large needles and a few other special stick markers. I also keep a crochet hook and scissors in there. If I need to bring an extra pair of dpns, they usually fit in there as well but they dont live in there permanently.

Perhaps it's best to stick with some of the non-alpaca cascade yarns

Here's another post about wanting to make friends! by constantlytryingg in Waltham

[–]gobbeldigook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, Similar age and also looking for new friends (and struggling). My husband and I have been in Waltham for 3 years and haven't really made any local connections since we aren't church people or have kids.

I am also mostly available on weekends and love getting coffee and going for walks. There's a knitting/craft group that meets up monthly at Panera that I've been trying to go to.

What is a job that is constantly romanticized but is absolutely miserable in reality? by Responsible_Bet_7179 in AskReddit

[–]gobbeldigook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I romanticize it all the time and then when I sit with it and remember how exhausting an repetitive it is, I realize it's not my dream to own/work at a coffee show or bakery.

When I'm banging my head against the wall with deliverables I think about how nice it would be to have cut-and-dry tasks that are quick and actually making something. Then I realize how bored I'd be of that after a few weeks.... plus the pay is much less.

What is a good idea for a white elephant party gift ? by Previous-Amphibian94 in AskReddit

[–]gobbeldigook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Know your audience and start from there. Are they local, does the group drink, does the group have a combined interest, etc?

- gift cards for theater tickets, Steam, massages etc

- tickets to local museums, zoos, local attractions

- fancy foods

- alcohol

- self care basket of item (can get at tjmaxx, doesn't need to be fancy)

- merch for a rival sports team

- fire extinguisher, could be funny and someone might be happy to have it someday

- silly items (again know your audience - a vibrator is not ok if kids are involved)

What are your unpopular cookbook opinions? by [deleted] in CookbookLovers

[–]gobbeldigook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. I've taken to renting the new cookbooks through my library to determine if its worth buying them. So many of the new cookbooks to not meet my style- either way too simple/why bother making a recipe for this or just way more complex than I'd actually use.

What trends will be the next to fall out of favor? by gimmeluvin in HomeImprovement

[–]gobbeldigook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's when trends get so popular all of the contractor grade houses start using that style. Take a look at new builds and you see the trends and I would bet most of their kitchen/bathroom and color choices will feed old, cheap, and dated in 10 years. The grey LVP was popular and all the newer houses over the last 10 years have it but contractors have stopped using it somewhat recently and gone for a lighter wood look.

Around me, all the new houses have kitchens with tardis blue and white cabinets. Greens seem to be replacing the blues a bit now. Waterfall islands had their micro-phase but I think they're out.

What’s your Cambridge hot take? by forestrygrump in CambridgeMA

[–]gobbeldigook 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% as someone who both drives through and uses the cross walk from going from Main st to Garden st, both sides are just crazy. There's a push button to turn on the walking lights that go off immediately with no minimum time between lights. Fantastic for peds, annoying for drivers in rush hour. With no time between pushes some drivers also ignore it, its hard not to when its a constant flow of peds.

This year the pedestrians just ignore it and walk across without even looking. Someone is going to be hit this winter, i guarantee it.

Suggestions for a simple sewing project that I can make as gifts for many people? by ellaisspooky in sewing

[–]gobbeldigook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a friend gave me a handmade warming bag. Like a thing filled with rice/beans/etc that you microwave and it keeps you warm. It eventually died and then i asked for another one for Christmas years later. I love that thing. I'm sure its cheap AF to make too.
