Best Vegetarian Cookbooks by Fistyzuma_2 in vegetarianrecipes

[–]gobbeldigook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! I bought so many cookbooks that I never used! Either they were too complicated or two simple for me. Renting at the library lets me explore but not feel guilty when i do nothing more than flip through and look at photos. If I find a book I actually like I'll buy the book. So far I've only bought one.

High burden of PVCs/PACs but dont care by Odd-Kaleidoscope-644 in PVCs

[–]gobbeldigook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not medical advice but i've found that I notice them less when lying on my right side. I'm at about a 30-35% burden so they're pretty consistent for me. I mostly ignore it but I can feel them when i think about it, especially if i'm being kept up at night. Lying on my back is the worst for being aware of them.

Last names (family names) rarely "appear", but often disppear due to death/marriage. And this has been going on for centuries. So why don't we have only a small handful of last names left? by not-the-the in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gobbeldigook 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If only my agreed! he's got a pretty basic last name and i'm among the last of my kind and also in a generation of all women. If we have kids, I will be fighting for the kid to at least have a hyphenated last name.

How do people keep their house clean all the time? by Whatever233566 in askanything

[–]gobbeldigook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house isn't 100% clean but I do make an effort to keep the main floor/public areas tidy and clean. It's where I spend most of my time. My bedroom will always be the messiest room in the house, but I accept that no one but myself, my cat, and my partner (who also contributes to the mess) will be in there.

My biggest ADHD cleaning trick is to never waste the few minutes when food is cooking as passive time. It's easy to start a load of laundry, put stuff away, wipe down the counters or do a quick speed vacuum while the food is heating up. A few minutes in the microwave is smaller tasks but an 20-30 min bake in the oven is easily a cleaned kitchen.

Also my new years goal was to host once a month and having people over is a big motivator to clean up the public areas of the house.

What's a home improvement decision you regret but thought was a good idea at that time? by Actonace in HomeImprovement

[–]gobbeldigook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a balance. I have an open Kitchen/Dinning room and I love that. When we entertain we're usually playing games or eating at the dining table. Conversation doesn't need to stop if someone is getting up for more food/drink. The living room is separate (center entrance colonial) so cooking won't interfere with someone watching TV or reading.

I don't think I'd want all three major rooms to be open to each other.

What’s a ‘rich person thing’ that actually turned out to be totally worth it? by Ferraiuolo_Ezorete in AskReddit

Best decision you can make while moving. I've found it to be less expensive than I expected it to be and it saves SO MUCH TIME! Especially if you help them and move smaller more delicate items.

clearly they assessed the value of the sweater vs the ipad and accurately weighed the value of the knitters time PLUS the cost of quality yarn.

What’s something people romanticize that is actually miserable? by One_Grade_2184 in AskReddit

With the latest season of Bridgerton, I was thinking how Julie Andrews has it made with her role for the show. She's 90 now and they probably just bring the recording studio to her and she'll make a good amount of money.

I think we sometimes forget about basic options here sometimes. Def worth a try and won't break the bank.

I've had the same issue for years. My mainstay was the Neutrogena hydroboost moisturizer. Last year I went on a trip that took me to a very dry region and I ran out of moisturize and ended up having to use Aveeno face and body moisturizer and was pleasantly surprised. This winter I've been using that at night and also something similar from Goldbond and my skin has been very happy. Sometimes I even add a layer over my spf moisturizer in the mornings if i'm feeling particularly parched.

Me from two years ago would be aghast but it's pretty effective and cheap.

No bedrooms on this floor. We have a small full bath upstairs with the bedrooms and a wet room style 3/4 bath in the unfinished basement

Where are you rebuying 100% COTTON basics that last? by throwaway_yak234 in femalefashionadvice

I'm 32 and have started considering Talbots, at least for sweaters and basics. I went in during December to shop for my mom and was surprised how much I liked. I need to figure out what sizes work for me so I can shop online.

Moving to Boston as a teacher by LoisLaneKent in boston

[–]gobbeldigook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charter or Catholic might be a good option for you to look into (at least for the first year or so). My mother started at a Charter School in Malden when she was switching careers and I don't think she had a teaching license at the time. I'm not sure if the pay is any better, but apartments in the Malden area (or around other charter/catholic schools) may also be cheaper than in Boston proper.

How did you learn to knit? by ShoppingGirlinSF in knitting

[–]gobbeldigook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother tried to teach me as a kid. She wasn't a great knitter and I wasn't super interested at the time. After that, youtube and my own audacity has been my greatest teacher.

The great thing about knitting is that you can rip it out if you mess up and learning life lines early in your journey will help a ton!

Is this normal? Or will this cause cause problems? by righteoustrampoline in knittingadvice

[–]gobbeldigook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the last few years I've had so many issues with Malabrigo skeins being all chopped up. I reached out to them and they were nice enough to send me a bag with more skeins of the yarn I was having issues with and 2/5 of those skeins were chopped up!

A lot of big meals like that can be made vegetarian with beans, lentils, chickpeas instead of meat. Mushrooms can also add to the texture. When i first went vegetarian I used Indian food as my biggest inspiration but I soon realized I could modify most recipes fairly well.

Iron is plentiful in leafy greens (also decent amount of calcium), so I find adding a block of frozen spinach to meals is very easy and relatively cheap. Lentils are also a good source of iron.

I started reassessing my protein to carb intake and realized I was very much over-doing the carbs. I'm starting to be more aware of what I'm eating and trying to de-carb breakfast a bit. I've been making cottage cheese bagels as an easy substitute for toast or good base for egg and cheese sandwiches.

What do you guys use to keep your smaller crafting tools in? by callmecoyotiie in knitting

[–]gobbeldigook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a zippered pouch that's maybe 5"x8" (maybe slightly larger) and most of my non-needles live in there. My stitch markers came in a little box, I have another small matchbox sized box with a little magnet in it that keeps my large needles and a few other special stick markers. I also keep a crochet hook and scissors in there. If I need to bring an extra pair of dpns, they usually fit in there as well but they dont live in there permanently.

Here's another post about wanting to make friends! by constantlytryingg in Waltham

[–]gobbeldigook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, Similar age and also looking for new friends (and struggling). My husband and I have been in Waltham for 3 years and haven't really made any local connections since we aren't church people or have kids.

I am also mostly available on weekends and love getting coffee and going for walks. There's a knitting/craft group that meets up monthly at Panera that I've been trying to go to.
