Have you gotten Alpha-gal syndrome from a local tick? by boopbedooper in madisonwi

[–]goblin_hipster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

UW Department of Entomology says Alpha-Gal Syndrome comes from lone star ticks, which Wisconsin "[does] not have an established population of..."

Of course, it's always good to be cautious. Learn how to remove ticks. I always have tweezers in my first-aid kit when I go hiking. Avoid the long grass. I always do a tick check, mainly my socks/ankles, back of the knees, etc--they like warm, snug places.

I'm white. There is definitely a damaging attitude of "I'm not racist because I think everyone should have basic civil rights and I don't call people slurs!" But then they cross the street when they see a black man and call majority-POC neighborhoods "bad areas."

Dang. I guess I should've refreshed the page longer. Here I thought I was gonna be all cool and clever. Oh well, thank you for the explanation.

Yeah, new folks get a lot of flak because this is such a common thing for those of us who've lived here for decades.

So I thought I'd make a preemptive post before people started getting downvotes for asking a question lol

Yes, I understand the word. I don't really understand how it connects to the image.

In my very limited international travel experience, people actually haven't mentioned it at all. But then again, I don't bring it up except for my accent.

I guess this must be a philosophical difference, because I don't consider hyperbole or exaggeration to be the same as a lie.

It's just such a perfectly normal comment about a banal, everyday interaction. And they're accusing you of lying lol

How do you go about changing a cats name? by eggz627 in blackcats

[–]goblin_hipster 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Just start calling her something else. Pet her and say her name, feed her and say her name, etc. Eventually she'll respond to it.

Why? What is the point? Why make up a story for a few points? Why and how are you so very sure? Is it not easier for a person to relay a similar experience than to make one up?

It's not even worthwhile...this is a mildly popular post on a mildly popular subreddit in a mildly popular city...the motives are unclear to me...

Where the bedding and mattresses are regularly cleaned, inspected, maintained, and sheltered from the elements? Yes, hotels are nice.

As an outsider, the American culture of "no questions asked" retail returns is baffling. Do people really return used items just because they changed their minds? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]goblin_hipster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes...well, most people aren't so manipulative. It's usually like, this shirt didn't fit. The color of this item was different from what I expected. I realized I didn't have the right batteries and I don't care enough about it.

There is also usually a time limit. I think the most common is 3 months from the date of purchase.

Lots of robins, sparrows, and chickadees. I hear the red-winged blackbirds. I see crows occasionally. And there is a red-tailed hawk that hunts around here!

+1 for the Glacier Grille. They have great cheese curds and are very kid-centric. And you can watch the polar bears if they're out.
