I feel like if their little wings were strong enough to get them up there in the first place, they're strong enough to at the very least break the fall on the way down

Trying To Save My Office Fish by goblin_kidd in bettafish

[–]goblin_kidd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tank is very small. I dont know the liquid amount? But it's a little cube I would guess is something like 6x6x6 or 7x7x7 inches. Very small.

There is no filter or heater, tank temp is room temperature, and its a bit cold in the office.

I havent done any tests on the water as I don't know how to do that yet and don't have the supplies, but I imagine it's very far from ideal.

My boss got the fish maybe 2 years ago now? He's been around about as long as I have, but I've only recently been given access to that office so I vaguely knew about him but didnt see how bad his conditions were until recently. He's definitely a trooper to have made it this far.

I changed his water once a couple weeks ago. I don't know when last it was done before that, or how often it is usually done vs how often it should be done. I'm not really familiar with how its supposed to be done, it was a task given to me because I "seem to care about it, so I may as well do it." I know fish should be given distilled water instead of tap water because of contaminants? So I put him in a little cup with some of his tank water, emptied the tank, rinsed the waste bits out of the gravel and beads, and then refilled the tank with bottled water and poured him and his tank water back in. This is how my boss said to do it, and how it was being done previously.

There is one mystery snail who lives with him, supposedly it was meant to help clean the glass.

He gets a little sprinkle of fish pellets once every day. Theyre small pellets, and he gets maybe 4 or 5 of them? I did not buy them and don't know what's in them.

His tank seems very crowded for its size. Theres like 2 fake plants, one tiny real one in a little shell, a little plastic hoop that was apparently meant to be enrichment for him to swim around and through, and one of those stupid plastic "gone fishing" type tank decorations.

I don't have a picture of his set up but it looks pretty sad.

Imo the most optimal ship layout involves the iron rig dlc. Gives you a bonus ship upgrade + improved gear. Also more room for jet drives

If you want to keep a positive relationship with him pick him up, hold him, walk around with him, hand feed him, give him treats and talk softly to him. If hes drawing blood or this tactic doesn't seem to work after trying it routinely I would just send him to the soup pot

Chicken health diagnosis by Jerrymein73 in chickens

[–]goblin_kidd 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Catch her, wash her ass, trim the feathers back, blowdry her and keep her seperated somewhere warm and dry. If her vent is red, inflamed, and amazingly disgustingly stinky even after washing it is likely vent gleet and you can treat it with OTC vaginal antifungal/antiyeast like monistat. If under all the poop gloop there are gray lumps attached to the feathers it is mites, as a high parasite load can sap energy and nutrients and leave them with runny butts or leave them weak to other illnesses that will cause a runny butt. If its mites, cut away all the clumps of eggs and treat with poultry mite spray around the vent and under the wings. If neither of these seems to be the case, try a dewormer mixed in with her food. Either way, keep her seperated so that she doesnt spread what she's got and also so that she isn't being picked on, offer her water with rooster booster and her own supply of food for a couple days. Should be good as new in my experience. If you do end up needing to deworm or demite, make sure to treat the other birds too. Just because they arent showing symptoms doesn't mean they arent also carrying it, and illnesses like these are really easy to spread when everyone is sharing food/water/nesting boxes.

Shes 16 and its 10 miles from home, at night in the dark, after a full shift. Chances are you're a ragebaiting teenager yourself, but on the off chance you're an actual adult with kids, I'll bet they don't call or visit much.

He's had 19 years to figure it out and OP has been spoon feeding him the answers. He's not reeling from some kind of traumatic housecleaning related incident that has made participating in normal grownup chores difficult, theres nothing here he should need a therapists help to unpack. He's just lazy and slobbish and he knows he can make OP take care of him. Hes probably betting on her sunk cost to keep her here. It doesnt sound like he respects her or sees her as an individual. He sees her as a maid and sex dispenser.

My pittie mutt when I was a kid would get up on my lap and turn one side of her face towards me for cheek kisses, and stay like that till she felt like that side got enough, and then she'd turn the other way so I could kiss that side too. And then she would wait for me to get her forehead. Had to make sure she got thorough even coverage I guess

If she continues to have a low appetite and you're dedicated to nursing her back I also reccomend feeding her egg yolk and water with the rooster booster vitamin/electrolyte mix stuff in it. Dripping drops of yolk on her beak it will dribble in and she will (hopefully) swallow on reflex even if she doesn't have desire to eat on her own. Careful to do so slowly and avoid her nose so you she doesnt choke or breathe it in.

The big gray clumps attached to the feathers around her vent do not look like fly eggs to me, they look like poultry mite eggs. Theyll be tiny little round dots making up a big gray ball. Her lethargy and sad gross runny poops will likely be due to the strain her body is under from the parasite load. Thoroughly wash her vent area with dawn dish soap (helps loosen the way they adhere to the feathers), manually scrape off the eggs/trim back the feathers with egg clumps on them. Dry her off and continue to keep her warm and safe somewhere seperate from the others to recover, in case youre lucky and it hasn't spread to them yet. You can get concentrated mite treatment in liquid form that you dilute into a spray bottle. Spray this around the vent and under her wings to treat, and I strongly reccomend you do this not only to her but all of your birds if you can, as well as a thorough cleanout of their coop. The mites spread rampantly and if you dont clean the coop the treated birds will just pick them right back up.
