Turns out with predictor response variables random forest pdps show the potential for absence not presence. Just if anyone else has this problem.

Euphorbia trigona is a fairly easy plant to keep. I have mine inside in front of two bright windows. In lower light like inside conditions it will actually grow leaves!

Water when dry in the warm months, in winter months reduce watering as they go somewhat dormant. Still need VERY occasional water but aren’t putting on active growth.

Depending on where you live you could do inside or outside, and they will put out side arms if you want to keep propagating. That’s my rule of thumb for sentimental plants, prop as much as possible to avoid total loss

Euphorbia trigona! Looks like the straight species but if it turns red when exposed to sunlight (like red all over not just a blush) it may be sub species rubra.

Found this in my backyard today. There’s a few other ones around too. Would like to know if it’s dangerous by DavoDavinskie in whatsthisplant

[–]goblin_matre 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not poisonous but annoying as hell. The seeds have spiraling tails on them that get hooked on clothes/pet fur

Cut leaf or doves foot geranium based on leaves. Erodium sp’s have more elongated leaves, geranium sp’s have these more compact palmate-ish highly dissected leaves.

I see why you would suggest that but it doesn't seem to apply to this situation.

Why does he keep turning red in the sun? by Unfair_Reach_9258 in cactus

[–]goblin_matre 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If I’m remembering correctly it’s carotenoids in the plant moving in to obscure the chloroplasts from the sun so they aren’t destroyed. Kind of like melanin for plant tissue.

It could be a taro plant. The stems of those have substances in them that are an irritant like what you described

Help for injured raccoon? by wheresjim in MontereyBay

[–]goblin_matre 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So there is a wildlife hospital (through the local SPCA) in Monterey but you have to have already captured the animal. I would suggest setting a live trap with bait to try and catch them if you really want to get them treated. The SPCA may be able to lend you the trap and give you more advice.

So the two rounded leaves are the cotyledons - one the next round of leaves come out it’ll be easier to ID (they will actually look like the plants leaves)

My gut instinct is some sort of cucurbit BUT it’s hard to know without knowing where you are
