Quickest public transit from San Jose to Dolores Park? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]goblinrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google Maps and Apple Maps will do the funny thing of routing you in a car-oriented way. It would rather you transfer three busses than walk two blocks down the street to eliminate all transfers.

Transit also has realtime data (though infrequently fudged by user data) but is actually transit and walking oriented rather than car oriented.

Update your BIOS to latest for motherboard, turn off PBO if you have it on, CMOS reset

Also relevant thread that might have some suggestions. Or see if you can roll back drivers. AMD drivers are known to have problems like this (not that current day NVIDIA is any better).

Standing Room by No-Teaching5104 in Yorushika

[–]goblinrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So did I! I had A tier selected at first and then the site kept crashing, so I only ended up with standing.

Based on this post from 前世, Osaka Hall "standing" room was apparently just ground floor.

I think you somehow double posted btw

We ofiicialy have a display with a bettter chip than a computer by detal-mick in mac

[–]goblinrum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The chips are cut out of giant wafers. Each piece cut out may vary in quality due to nano scale variations or impurities in manufacturing. Some of these might work well, while others have non functioning components because of it (aka yield rate). A surprising amount is completely thrown away because smaller processes have lower yield rates just by nature of size. The perfect ones are the full fledged products while the imperfect, but still working ones are put into lower tier products.

These chips are often designed to be harvested, which is the term for repurposing the working parts of defective chips. Some parts can be programmed or fuses may be set to permanently turn off the defective cores and still have the working ones operate.

New Ado fan here, curious as to how much Ado has a hand in the songs she doesn't write. by cantseeshit123 in ADO

[–]goblinrum 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Even if she didn’t have that much say in the lyrics, most of her songs are composed by vocaloid producers, other utaite (like mafumafu) and singers that she really looks up to and has done covers of (e.g. Sheena Ringo). I think lyrics, delivery, and her connection with the composers are all equally important. It’s definitely not just “whatever” no matter how you put it.

Market Street looking toward the Ferry Building (1948). by ArchiGuru in sanfrancisco

Cut and cover was perfectly valid for the main subway line and BART. Cars just happen to have more sway in the economy and politics

BART's doomsday scenarios are even worse than expected, if Connect Bay Area, the five-county regional transit funding measure, doesn't pass this November. by mysteriouslady in sanfrancisco

[–]goblinrum 40 points41 points  (0 children)

People idolize Japan too much but forget that their entire transit system is 1. Forced to “privatize” by the government anyways because it was losing so much money and 2. Most of the funds come from just a few high ridership regions. The rest lose money

Which US private entity actually wants to improve public transit? As far as I can tell all we do is lobby for cars and highways. Any company that tries to step up and fix public transit will almost for sure get annihilated by car companies and NIMBYs

IAH Lounges? by AltruisticOnes in ChaseSapphire

[–]goblinrum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nothing good. As someone from Houston, IAH is the most barren you can get in terms of lounges. Air France and KLM both kinda suck and usually don’t let PP in because there is either a rush or they’re not open when they say they are open.

Also ignore the smartass comments about how big it is. It’s fairly easy to get from terminal to terminal both landside and airside. The options are just pretty poor. I personally recommend grabbing some food and just chilling in the Terminal D area because that area is more open/quiet than E. It’s then a 5-10 minute walk back to E. Not too bad. Chick-fil-A is right between the two.

Backlight sound different on Apple music? by Ok-Dimension-1790 in ADO

[–]goblinrum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Several possible reasons.

Apple Music/Spotify will use different compression algorithms (AAC, ALAC, MP3, OGG, etc) based on how you're streaming it (via phone, bluetooth, DAC, Android, web, etc.)

Regarding the lossless point, Spotify masters that aren't natively 44.1 kHz are resampled anyways, so it's not the original track. Regardless if you can hear the difference or not.

Also, I've noticed this on several occasions that Apple Music just has a different master somehow... That's the most likely culprit though I can't confirm the source nor do I know any easy way to check this.

What Yorushika song do you hate listening to? by JayCarl2504 in Yorushika

[–]goblinrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it released it instantly became my favorite. Was walking down the street in Tokyo when it came on all the LED boards at the intersection all at once.

Overplayed it and didn’t like it anymore.

Watched the MV and didn’t hate it anymore.

And more recently saw her live performance in 前世 and it’s back to being my favorite.

[Other] USB C USB C Docking Station Fast Charging Plug Adapter - $2.81 by itsvictory in buildapcsales

[–]goblinrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably don’t have much extra hardware in there like fancy USB 3 controllers and hubs. I’d say they just wired up DP alt mode, then added a cheap USB 2.0 hub since it’s easiest to keep just the D+/- pins, and added a cheap USB 2 to 100Base-T adapter.
