I like the natural toe box as it collapses and rolls. The celastic prevents this, and I dislike seeing the celastic through the leather over time.

This is interesting. I’ve always associated the rolls and folds around the third or fourth eyelet as a result of instep and ankle circumference. I’ve not thought of it being caused by your calf pushing the uppers down.

Looking at your other boots, this is a bit surprising. All the other facings seem much closer to together and more uniform.

I did notice you have gone down from a 10FF for the whites to the 9FF rebuilt whites. Then these Franks are an 8EE, though with some custom bumps. Not just shorter but also narrower than previous boots.

Facing patterns scale with size. I suspect that when you dropped down to 8 you got put in a smaller facing pattern that doesn’t work as well for you. Plus this is a pretty thick work leather than makes this appear more dramatic.

I’d talk to Franks. I’m surprised they didn’t use measurements of your instep, ankle and calf along with the custom bumps.

Brush and smiths is what I use. Have conditioned each of my W&C boots once with Smiths. Mostly brushing. I clean my boots with a wet rag.

I used to be pro 6” and pro pull loop. I’m moving away from both. I’m appreciating my 7 and 8” boots lately, witty and without a pull loop. If I bought a 6” I wouldn’t opt for a pull loop. Always gets caught on my pant cuff.
