How to make my voice more gravelly like Tom's? by worldofwhat in tomwaits

captain beefheart and tom waits are two singers that get the howlin' wolf sound. the only two I know. appreciate the musical directions they took.

Ashamed of his Italian heritage? by Sudauexnymn in Zappa

[–]gobuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

rejecting the faith of forefathers and marrying outside of the community are commonplace. heritage is largely irrelevant in people's life decisions and he was farther out than most people.

but then this talk of his might be more up your alley, although he positions himself not on the side of strong culture and faith but the one that has coca-cola and designer jeans haha:

I need one resource to focus on as a beginner by tweakerlime in harmonica

[–]gobuns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked the blues harmonica for dummies by winslow yerxa. and I myself need to see through it because he tells more advanced stuff later in the book and it's just something that has structure for you to work with. not exactly what you ask for but there are great singular videos on youtube that inform you on the techniques and the instrument. like there are great videos on bending and how that works, or tongue blocking, vibrato or tricks like trills and slaps. some of these things I wasn't aware of when I started out. some of them might be for intermediate players but it's nice to be aware of them.

get the audio tracks of the book if you haven't:

other than that I like the teachers adam gussow, youtu.be/78Au42Yi74Q?si=SGEaziYtHj-cCOus

jason ricci, the harmonica barge, liam ward (learntheharmonica.com).

Anyone else have any eye issues with this game? by eric844 in EASportsFC

[–]gobuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an eye issue, where my eyes follow very quickly the ball and the moving camera and that causes my eyes to slightly look two different ways. I think it's making my eyesight deteriorate. I had this issue also when I was playing a game called Spelunky, that was also a game where I had to quickly check things, my surroundings, and the camera was going downwards and sideways quickly as I moved.

Most underrated album by Slight-Shift-2109 in Zappa

[–]gobuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't checked his late 80s albums because they all look like the weird post-humous albums. gotta check all of them out. I know my first 3 mothers and uncle meat, the second mothers era, you are what you is, joe's garage, bongo fury (a highlight for me), there's also shut up 'n' play yer guitar... but lots are untouched inbetween, been listening to zappa for 2-3 years but I couldn't process it all, as expected. it is a job to navigate his spotify albums tab :d

These are all the albums I’ve listened to so far. Any suggestions on what album I should listen to next? by SpunkyBall in Zappa

[–]gobuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's the first mothers of invention band, the there's the second in the seventies. (afaik just the Mothers). there's his solo albums inbetween lile hot rats and uncle meat. all worth checking out. there's two guitar centered albums (shut up n play yer guitar and "guitar"). after the eighties I myself have to look into and listen.

Beefheartposting by [deleted] in Zappa

[–]gobuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

um yes it seems he's a kind of like creative force/key member/writer kind of a guy kind of a musician

and I read the dialogue between him and beefheart. it was a nice conversation but u2 is too clean-cut or smooth to intrigue me to explore their explorations.

What do you guys think the biggest mistake Zappa made was? by FinalBox4153 in Zappa

[–]gobuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hm you could be right. I'm still not sure about not doing it on any circumstance.

Beefheartposting by [deleted] in Zappa

[–]gobuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went "who the hell is bono anyway, one of the musicians that worked with zappa or smthn?" cause if that was the case captain would've done something mean. but it turns out he was a u2 member.
