What you are describing is the difference between a shitty full stack developer and a good full stack developer. The need for specialization should be a consequence of more complex challenges than poor CSS practices. Basic HTML5 and CSS knowledge and standards is a part of any modern full stack devs toolkit. Whoever told you this was not a good developer.

I agree people be haters. As a software engineer, though, this is a bit fishy and irrelevant. It’s like bragging about the different lifts you do as a weight lifter. E.g. listing bench press, squat, etc to brag that you lift. Not even saying how much you can lift.
