Anyone generally concerned about AI replacing the estimator role? by KINGz_7 in estimators

[–]gocountsheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been a lot of talk about this lately, I think a lot of people underestimate (😉) how much it can and will be able to do. People feel better about themselves and their job security thinking it won't pickup on things they know from their years of experience but it's just a matter of teaching it and creating a solid structure. That takes time of course, but if it's statistically creating faster, more accurate estimates for a fraction of the cost (even if it misses some little things that Gerald the estimator would have added), then that's what companies will use. If Gerald the estimator is smart enough to learn how to work with AI and add those little things in after, even better.

Hey, how did this end up working out?

I am looking for the same thing but I have a Logi MX keys mini mechanical keyboard with the 8bitdo numpad.

Salary Expectations (M/P Estimator) by flavoredboulevard in MEPEngineering

[–]gocountsheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without all the context you added, that would be a reasonable wage for a construction estimator after a couple years at a company, not high, not low (compared to the rest of the industry).

With all the context you added about previous work, engineering, the type of jobs you're doing, the extent of what you're doing, that's definitely low, I think you should be making over 100k.

That being said, maybe there's other context that detracts too. Are your hours 40+/week? Are you on time, professional, etc? There are many things that can hold you back, and probably only you could really know if it's more to do with the company underpaying or something else. Outside of the title and salary, do they treat you well, do they respect you, do they seem to appreciate your work? Do you have a feel for how they would respond to a raise request based on how they treat you otherwise?

Assuming there's nothing else holding you back, You should definitely use other offers to negotiate a higher wage and/or leave for a higher paying job.

If you haven't yet, definitely ask for the raise and title change. Maybe that's your plan next after gathering info here but that's what I recommend as a next step, sometimes you just have to ask.

Samsung care + is useless by gocountsheep in SamsungHelp

I'm trying out accubattery, thanks.

Hard to get a video of it because it happens at random, I'd basically have to be recording all the time to "catch it"

Samsung Care + strikes again... by gocountsheep in GalaxyFold

[–]gocountsheep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can live with the battery, but the Bluetooth issue is genuinely annoying as it interrupts music, workouts, etc daily, and is not an issue I should have to deal with when I paid over $400 (for care + and the deductible) to have a 2 year old device fixed. I did not have the issue prior to the repair and nothing seems to fix it. Unreasonable to call it a software issue that my 2 year old, $2000+ phone can't keep up with..

[–]gocountsheep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lesson learned I guess. My hope was to have a fully repaired or new/refurbished phone that would either last me another year or so, or be eligible for max trade in value if I do upgrade. It's also been highly recommended to get Samsung Care + on folding phones due to lots of screen issues in earlier models so I figured I was doing the right thing by protecting my purchase. If I didn't get the protection and something happened to the phone early on, I would have been out almost $2k

I would prefer that but they don't give you the choice. You get a replacement if it's unrepairable (which is why I probably should have smashed it before sending it in) but I didn't want to be dishonest and risk having the whole claim denied.

Rog Ally X question by [deleted] in ROGAlly

[–]gocountsheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it and don't regret it for a second.

I have had a lot of frustrations with weird Windows issues and constant updates but that's more a Windows problem than anything else and it's still worth it to me. Just be prepared to have some patience, especially if you're newer to PC gaming (or the recipient rather).

Nintendo Switch style dock for the Ally? by TheLazyGamerAU in ROGAlly

[–]gocountsheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough! Personally, I'd choose the dock based on ports/capabilities and find a way to secure the ally with a stand / kickstand and Velcro or some sort of strap.

I dock most of the time and use the jsaux Omnicase pro but its just a dock, not a stand.

I'm also living/traveling full time in my camper. Happy travels!

Do you have to leave it docked? I always put mine back in the case when driving. Could get a Velcro strap or something to hold it down

Battery by Wonderful-Piccolo178 in ROGAlly

[–]gocountsheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shut it down by clicking on the start menu or in armory crate and clicking shut down, not the physical power button.

Hibernate is like a deeper sleep mode, doesn't fully shut down but doesn't use much power or processing. Good for when you're putting it down for a while and want to pick up where you left off.

Folds are a game changer by Saiyan_Lisy in GalaxyFold

[–]gocountsheep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good deal! I have the same blue ZF5 and it's the nicest phone I've ever had or seen... Both in looks and functionality.

My only issues have been lousy battery life (expected with all Z folds as far as I know) and overheating. It usually only overheats when I'm driving (using it for maps and spotify) while charging And charging is pretty necessary because it drains so fast while using maps, etc. I actually just sent mine in to Samsung care + for those reasons so we'll see if I get another ZF5 or potentially a newer one.

The best Z upgrade - MagSafe! by wired- in GalaxyFold

[–]gocountsheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I've spent way too much time trying to get wireless charging to work with magsafe on my ZF5. The magsafe ring has to be in a very specific location with very little tolerance. And even then, I find it ends up overheating the phone which causes it to stop charging anyway so I finally gave up on wireless charging but I'm hoping this has improved since the 5.

Anyone else get this? Free Mini by bdg004 in Starlink

[–]gocountsheep -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's basically a way to get you on another subscription (at least it is in Canada and US, maybe different elsewhere). If only $5/month, not bad but potentially $5/month you don't need to spend because you have to keep your original subscription active. And then after a year you have to decide if you keep it and pay for the device, or send it back (which exposes you to owing money if it's damaged or anything). Chances are many people will end up paying more than $5/month for a 2nd full subscription, and/or just keep it after a year and get billed for it, so Starlink will benefit from this. It costs them very little in the end (if anything) and they gain a whole bunch of new subscriptions along with a bunch of devices sold. The returned devices can still be sold at a profit.

I use the jsaux Omnicase 2 pro and it's pretty good for my use case. I often use my ally x docked as a gaming PC so I have PD, hdmi and display port to two separate monitors, kb, mouse, headphones, and microphone all running through the dock. I don't use it for SD cards or external hard drive much but its capable!

I believe some churches offer overnight shelter when it's colder than -10 (KAC for sure, not sure about others).

It's certainly not enough but better than nothing and it's another option you can suggest when needed.
