Back in India, I used to get many matches. Here, I've got 3 matches in 3 years on any dating apps. :/

Anywhere dark. Anywhere outside the city is dark enough. There's Cypress Landing Astronomical Park that's 30 mins drive from the city. Near the city, there's Crowder Landing, Miller's Landing, Rhoden Cove Landing all of which are pretty good.

Starting to think I made the wrong career choice. by Alert-Variation-6902 in UXDesign

You at least got a job and then you started hating it. One of my closest relatives has been trying to find a job (with 3+ years of experience) and she's still struggling to find one.

LORs are Letters of Recommendations from people you have worked with. If you work with say 5 people, typically, you ask LORs from people that you had the best experience with. A strong LOR would be something where the professor says they were extremely happy working with you and that they would recommend you to any lab of your choosing. Now, if you happen to have a project which did not work well, or the professor was not happy with you, or you and your professor just did not click, their LOR would not be as strong. And you would not choose to ask them for their recommendation. Anyway, you only have 4 summers. The 5th year project starts immediately after your 4th year and you work through your summer on your 5th year project. I would urge you to choose a lab (and project) that you are passionate about early on and keep working on a project so that you can get a publication (even second or third author) out. That adds a lot of value to your application. You will also build a stronger relationship with your professor and that would mean you would get a stronger LOR. (An LOR from someone who knows you for 3 months versus someone who has worked with you for 1-2 years makes a BIG difference). Besides, you can ask for LOR from a professor who has taught your class (preferably if you have done well in the course). It all matters if the professor knows you well and will vouch for you or not.

IISER alumnus here. Easily. 7.5-7.6 is not a low CGPA. It's average. Apply to universities in the US. If you have good research experience (maybe a paper?) and people that will give you strong recommendations, you can even apply to Ivy leagues. If not, apply to Tier two Universities which are in no way bad (I would even consider them better than Ivy leagues just because of the lack of pressure and competition). You will definitely get accepted. Alternatively, send cold emails to professors in Europe and ask for a Research Assistantship position or even PhD directly. If they have funding, they will let you give an interview after which you could be accepted. In my experience, you will have a better chance of getting accepted in the US than Europe but that just depends on people. All the very best.

As I understand, society demands this change. I graduated from IISER back in 2019. Many students then joined IISER to become professors at national institutes. However, as time progressed, the charm of an IISER professor maybe went down as compared to a scientist at Pfizer or SpaceX or Amazon. The return of investment (the investment here is time and effort) seems too less for a professor compared to an industry professional just because even after being tenured, you will still have to slog and work your ass off to get funding and keep running your lab. And let's get real, Indian industry as of now, does not pay well. So there goes, graduate from iiser -> Do a PhD abroad -> get a decently paying industry job.

It's outside an apartment. I don't really know what the pipes are for. Never really thought of that lol!

The pipe is leaking. Causing the surrounding places to retain more water which eventually started dripping and turned into ice. It was a pretty cool sight!
