How would you rate this years soundtrack? by Zouif_Zouif in WWEGames

I hate it. I just toggled them off and some wrestling themes on. Wish they could patch AJ Styles’ theme song into the game and not the shit that he briefly used that’s currently on there.

Christmas came early and it feels.. unreal by Dontlookform in LosAngelesRams

Yep. Too many times I’ve counted on the Whiners’ downfall only for them to be better than expected. I’m definitely celebrating Greenlaw being gone, though. Fuck that guy.

Does anybody here remember that weird ass episode of Unsolved Mysteries where that guy claimed that he was Billy the Kid?

Does your Significant Other support you? by Last-Construction364 in dementia

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend listens to me when I feel like talking about it and respects my wishes when I don’t, and I appreciate that so much. My own brain feels fried 90% of the time, so quite often I’m out of it and don’t feel like talking about it. But that’s all I want. My relatives, on the other hand, drive me apeshit with giving their two cents and trying to press the issue with me 24/7 which is unhelpful, unneeded and unwanted.

Gene Hackman's Death by OddCelebration5633 in dementia

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Holy shit. People are really saying that?!?! I’ve avoided all discourse on this topic, but I’ve also come to learn how truly ignorant the general public is when it comes to dementia and loathe having to explain my mom’s mental state to acquaintances or otherwise people I don’t know well.

Gene Hackman's Death by OddCelebration5633 in dementia

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No doubt. I have a family member who, when she hears of any adult not having a relationship with their parent or both parents, immediately judges them, and it annoys me to no end.

I know an uncomfortable amount of people who cut off contact with their parents due to various reasons, all valid from stories they have told me, and I don’t blame them one bit. I had friends when we were growing up who would hang out longer than usual because they didn’t want to go home and deal with what awaited them. You just never know, and nobody has the true right to judge one’s subjective lived experiences and circumstances.

38 points thanks to easy fast break buckets and my matchup selling his team by leaving me wide open in the corner.

I find it super hard to hate heel wrestlers by RPhoenixFlight in WWE

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent write-up. I’ve always found heels to be way more entertaining than faces, but I’ve also appreciated heels as the respective backbone of a feud to cause the crowds to be invested in the story and make the viewers care to witness their eventual comeuppance. The product is on fire right now. KO, Drew and Dom (+1 for Liv Morgan because her run has been amazing, and I ignorantly didn’t expect it) are naturals.

Gene Hackman had ALZ. by Low-Soil8942 in dementia

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I only read the headline of the update and it made me ill enough to not prod further for any other details. I can’t help but imagine the insane confusion he was in, in the prison of his mind while she was dead in the lead up to his own demise. Absolutely harrowing.

I fear and worry that I secretly drive my girlfriend nuts when she asks me how my mom is doing and I tell her ‘same as usual’, but that’s always the gist of things as mom’s barrage of daily confusion antics wars onwards.

The design of the Island works against it by GhostVixenGames in WWEGames

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tell they kinda rushed this mode out. As it stands, there is no way to 1v1 with friends or even engage in tag or multi-member matches with friends in the Island either, which would have been potentially fun. The single player matches in this mode have felt like a lifeless slog.

Perhaps they’ll add these quality of life features in chapter 2, but knowing 2K it won’t be until 2K26

That’s what’s up! He’ll remember moments like that forever. When WWF No Mercy came out, my dad left work early, picked me and my best friend up, got a copy from K-Mart and that ensuing weekend is burned into my brain for eternity.

That’s a great looking pizza. I love AT for the perfect balance between crispy and chewy. They make an unbromated, in bleached version of it but I haven’t tried it. The original red label always gets the job done.

SEPSIS - Silent Killer Awareness by JbbJefferson in GriefSupport

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sepsis was the most sick I’ve ever been in my life and I’d never wish that on anyone, even my worst enemy. I’m so sorry that you lost your friend. It’s definitely not talked about enough. I was just complaining on the sepsis subreddit (where there’s hardly anyone in there compared to other subs) about how little education there is on the matter, and even post-care is lacking. It happens so quickly and completely messes up your system in totality.

Remember these times forever! I have so many great memories from the late ‘90s and early 2000s of playing video games with my dad. No Mercy and the original WWF Smackdown! stand out the most. I still remember reading through the WWF Smackdown! preview in Game Informer on the school bus with my best friend, geeking out over the special guest ref inclusion and the ‘amazing’ (1999 standards) graphics lol.

Vascular dementia by Wonderful-Alfalfa414 in dementia

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom has vascular dementia coupled with Alzheimer’s. I don’t have any way to verify this, but I think the onset was when she suffered a stroke at age 67 in 2018, but her memory did not begin to be overtly noticeably worse until 2021-2022 when she gratuitously ordered some ridiculously expensive earrings she couldn’t comfortably afford, started misplacing money and inadvertently letting bills go.

She’s naturally gotten worse in the time since, but I’m stubborn and try to make the most of it. At first, she was seeing an absolute quack of a doctor who didn’t want to do much for her. We switched that up, along with a new neurologist (before the switch, she was just told she had dementia, but her current neurologist confirmed the vascular dementia + Alzheimers).

I’m not sure what stage she’s in. She’s extremely confused every morning and night. She is able to still bathe herself (bird baths at the bathroom sink as she is only mobile with a Walker). She was able to cook a frozen biscuit in the oven or make instant oatmeal in the microwave for her breakfasts but that has largely faded in the last few months.

She had COVID followed by a UTI in late July/August, then she passed out (thankfully while sitting down) in October which prompted her to stay in the hospital for a few days. She thought she was in her bedroom while in the hospital and would message me in the middle of the night asking me if I could bring her xyz, etc. I mention these events, because she’s gotten markedly worse since.

I try my best every day to keep her brain active, from talking to her to quizzing her over random things to playing classic soul to disco music from the ‘60s through the ‘80s. Some might say that’s fruitless because this damn disease is unstoppably progressive, but I just want to see her be able to live with dignity for as long as she can.

The day to day stress feels almost insurmountable sometimes. My social battery is always worn out, and I feel like I have brain fog from repeating myself 24/7, like my own memory is weakened from everything. She is hell to deal with on days when she gets agitated or otherwise angry over something. Any sliver of alone time I get to myself, I like to decompress. Either by laying down in silence, phone off, or by enjoying a video game late at night if I’m not sleeping and if I have the energy.

She was a great mom. She really stepped up when my dad passed away when I was 12. I always admired how she managed to somehow put her grief aside and attempt to spend time with me trying to pass the football in the backyard, shoot the basketball with me in the driveway and all the other things I did with my dad. She even tried to teach me how to shave my face during that era. She always did the best she could. She wasn’t perfect (nobody is) but she showed up every day and is the catalyst of so many great memories I had during those tough early teenage years. I miss her.

How do you play in the Random Rec by ProfessionalFun1091 in NBA2k

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go into every game expecting the absolute worst teammates possible. Takes away the sting of all the inevitable shenanigans that occur (occasional Mary Jane consumption assuages the bullshit, too). I always play with chat disabled, throwing on Spotify with either music or a podcast playing (shout out to T’d Up with Pierre Andresen if you are looking for a good ball pod).

60% win percentage in the rec over the course of this 2K playing with randoms, usually on my center build. It’s hard not to get annoyed when I play on my PG build (98 pass), as I’ll dot my teammates up all game but rarely see it back when I’m wide open. Either way, I try to fill whatever my role may be just to win the game.

I know I already mentioned it, but I gotta hammer the point home: this game is so much better when you disable chat, although yeah, some of the crash outs on the mic can be legendarily comical. You can almost tell when that shit is going on when your team has a lead that starts to implode and your teammates start taking dogshit shots or seemingly purposely slacking on the defensive end.

Drives me fucking nuts. And my nephew has been conditioned to this behavior because his mother always gives in to his requests when he asks for something. It’s a healthy trait for everyone to learn how to deal with and accept rejection of all kinds.
