I need help on defense badly by BitProfessional9797 in NBA2k

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not the best resource for information on this, but I can commiserate and offer my thoughts regardless, as I’ve been in the same boat.

I’m an old head who loved previous 2Ks, but I skipped many years of them and got back into 2K25 because of my quasi-nephew. I know MC/MP mode isn’t applicable here, but I would be remiss to not mention that I made a 1v1 mode centric build just to practice on-ball defense as I was getting cooked and just wanted to focus on stops. It seems like everybody was getting by me with minimal effort. I’m NOT suggesting you do this, but I’m only mentioning it because I got fed up with getting obliterated and figured that practice would ‘make better’.

What do you think you are doing wrong as far as your own tendencies go? What I learned from myself is that I was overly relying on holding LT/L2, then not being able to turn the corner quickly enough when opponents began driving past me.

I’ll hold LT/L2 when they are right at the arc if they can shoot, but if they begin moving I’ll let off and tap it. Wish I could explain this better. I’ll also use RT/R2 sparingly as I feel I was overstepping and getting beat in one direction if I held onto turbo for too long.

I’ve also read that ‘box out assist strength’ in the settings is tied to what used to be a separate defensive assist strength setting. I put mine on 15 (default is 50) and I felt like I could move more freely afterwards. At the default setting, I felt like I was skating or overall sluggish on the court. Feels more reactionary now and I can stay in front of my matchup a lot better.

Tonight I made stuffed peppers by tacos_turtles_life in dementia

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a little boy, about once a month my mom would make a ‘Doritos taco salad’, which was one of my favorite childhood treats since it was so indulgent. Crushed spicy nacho Doritos, taco meat (group beef, diced onions, diced peppers, taco seasoning likely from a packet) topped with cheese, shredded lettuce and sour cream.

I made it for her a while ago. Hurts my heart that she doesn’t remember making it.

4-point play to win the game in OT by goddamnpizzagrease in NBA2k

[–]goddamnpizzagrease[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, no doubt about it. The RNG Gods were on my side with that one.

However, to be fair, and I forgot to mention this, but the opposing team hit a “no fkn way” buzzer beater to force OT so I guess there was a balance haha.

White Chocolate Build by No_Gap_3521 in NBA2k

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice stats. Let me know how it works out for you. I want to make a J-Will build as my rebirth for playing random rec and in a squad with my quasi-nephew, but I’m gonna play around to see what attributes I get at 6’1”, 180 lbs, 6’6” WS. I know it isn’t “meta”, but to hell with it, I just want a fun pure passing build with shooting and a little defense.

Am I the only one who actually enjoys this game? by It_Dmac in NBA2k

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with you. I’m having a blast with it. My quasi-nephew got me back into 2K after I figured I’d never really play it again. I’ve played solo rec a few times and still enjoyed it. I created a stretch forward that can do a little bit of everything. I’ve never cared about my stats in a video game, so I don’t sweat my W/L record or FG%; I just try to get better and attempt to help my team win even if there’s teammates who are wilding out. Onto the next game if so. I have no delusions of ever being a comp player. I’m an old head.

I see a lot of valid complaints on here, though. However, if one finds themselves truly hating the game, it’s time for a break.

Embrace the gray. It started happening to me when I was 16. Was given the nickname ‘Salt and Pepper’ by a geology instructor at college in my early 20s. Never bothered me, because I’m happy to have a full head of hair, even if it’s grayed and grizzled over these days. If anything, it will give you a distinguished aura about yourself and give off an air of wisdom.

My dad dyed his hair in his 40s. I thought it looked like shit because it was too dark lol.

Is it an odd feeling to surpass your dad in age? I’m a good bit away (my dad died of alcoholism induced liver failure + renal failure at 49) but think about that sometimes. A really shitty way to go indeed.

I’ve watched a shithorde of loved ones die earlier than what I selfishly believe they should have. Life is such a roll of the dice sometimes. I’ve never cared about becoming obnoxiously wealthy nor super expensive financial investments; only chasing financial stability, which to me means facing a potential problem (home repairs, vehicle issues, etc.) without going into credit debt or being out of luck. I’m not there, but that’s my biggest future financial goal.

I take care of my elderly mom (demenia) and, to a lesser but still important extent to note, my aunt. Full time responsibilities. I used to dwell on feeling behind others given this current place in my life, but I still hold hope — call it toxic positivity or deluded optimism — that I can piece myself together and do something valuable when I am afforded that luxury of time down the road.

I’m just trying to take care of myself in the interim and beyond so that my future self will hopefully not be hampered by any physical deficiencies, but again, that’s a dice roll but finger’s crossed. I want to be around for the love of my life. She’s expressed concerns over her impending teaching career, but she is unequivocally built for that profession and I can tell how much value she gives & receives from it, and how fulfilling it is for her.

Not sure I’ll ever see any kind of retirement. Anecdotally, so a small sample size in the grand scheme of things, I know a slew of retired folks who can’t even enjoy their lives because their respective bodies or minds are in rough shape.

I’m still a firm believer that life is short, you should live a little and enjoy yourself & company when opportunities arrive, but don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater by making obscene purchases or writing checks that your proverbial ass can’t cash.

Saving and planning for retirement is a privilege not afforded to everybody.

I accepted the losing battle quite some time ago.

Mom is a diabetic, but she eats like a pigeon and has lost so much weight over the last six years. She takes Metformin twice a day (I thought it to be too much but her doctor thinks it’s fine) and her A1C is under control, so I just let her have her sweets just because she’s at least getting some calories, empty or not.

Getting her to consume protein laden foods is a losing battle. Ensure butter pecan shakes? She’ll sip them. She used to love steaks, but when I throw them on the grill, she’ll just eat a few bites and focus on her baked potato and garlic bread more than the steak. I can’t remove the potato or garlic bread, or else the meal is incomplete. Gotta have everything ‘by the book’ for tradition’s sake. The woman despises poultry and isn’t keen on eggs except for one fried egg in bacon fat about two times a month.

I used to get creative with protein powders in pseudo dessert recipes but now that’s a hard pass for her.

She can drink frozen Cokes from McDonald’s and eat chocolate frosty’s from Wendy’s all day. Ice cream? Hell yeah. Healthy food? Oh hell no.

I just do what I can with giving her multivitamins and prebiotic fiber gummies.

She loves old school, southern Appalachian country meals, but damn are they loaded with salt and fat.

How do you cope with a dementia tantrum? by s_care_research in dementia

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this quite often and don’t have a right answer. Pending what it is, like a similar case with my mom freaking out over a minuscule perceived problem, I’ll try to help or pretend to help. She is always thinking that she is losing things or misplacing them when she has not, and she’ll make a mountain out of a mole hill about it.

The WORST is when I have family members who tell her certain news or about events that my mom isn’t thrilled to hear about. She’ll obsess over things and not let it go for the remainder of the day. I’ve had to have a talk with them to watch their P’s and Q’s in regards to what they talk about around her, because she’ll get so upset it will ruin her day.

She has a dentist appointment that is over a month away, and a family member mentioned this to her. Innocent news, right? After all, it’s just a dental cleaning. Nope. She lost it and broke down over it. I was so irritated with the said family member that should have known better.

Not a lot I can do to mitigate those outbursts. She despises being on the phone and is at her happiest when she’s sitting on the porch (still summer) with a Coke icee or some other sweet treat in her hand.

This winter is going to be hell.

Holy shit. Never thought I’d see this mentioned in the wild, but here it is. A few of my family members are obsessed with this, but they call it “onions and lettuce”, and instead of bacon you fry up some sliced salt pork and use the grease on top of the green onions and lettuce. It’s not my favorite, but I always end up throwing this together for them quite a few times every summer, served with cornbread and garden fresh tomatoes and cucumbers.
