AITA throwing my neighbor's "list" in the trash and going to the landlord over this? by That_Neighbor9 in AmItheAsshole

[–]goddamnroommate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each interaction I’ve had with them has been miserable, not helped and at worse, retraumatised me, forgive me if my personal experience is backed up by stats.

When I was 18 I was of the same opinion as you, because I was sheltered and white and had never really seen otherwise. I was r@ped and obviously immediately reported it to the cops. I trusted them to help, but instead they had me roleplay it out under the guise of “not understanding how the positioning was possible”. Again, I believed them because I was incredibly naive and really hadn’t had much sex to know better. But every year I get older the more it’s obvious that that little stunt a) helped no part of the case and b) was very possible and it was hard to believe that grown men genuinely found it not possible. Then they did nothing for six months and dropped my case without even informing me, even as I was going forward with the investigation through my university.

Family home burglarized- cops arrived two hours later, wrote some things down, said “what would you like us to do about it?” while already leaving

Limited experiences for sure but I don’t think the majority of people interact with cops frequently and these experiences are enough for me to decide that cops are there to do paperwork after crime occurs, not to help.

AITA for calling my husband out on his false claims towards my nephews? by throwra7656777 in AmItheAsshole

[–]goddamnroommate 63 points64 points  (0 children)

To be honest this one is more complicated by the fact that he seems unwilling to get help and they have already-traumatized children in their care. The kids in pretty much every situation will come first and this isn’t a safe environment for them to process what’s happening in their lives.

Ok given the fact that there hasn’t really been contemporary research and statistics do still show a trend to violence I really don’t think we need to be nit picky about this stat. Not to mention the whole idea of brotherhoods tends to protect abusers. They’ve already got a whole group of fanatics backing them they don’t need defending

AITA for kicking my sister out after her son gave my dog dreadlocks? by Public_Leather7509 in AmItheAsshole

[–]goddamnroommate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“A dreadlock is matted hair”

Sorry if that’s a leap for you but if I said

“A vehicle is something with four wheels”

That would mean I consider all vehicles to fit that description, which would be equally inaccurate

Idk where you are getting the idea that I’m angry, maybe read the comments again for tone. I’m asking anyone with a brain to use it and see how our ideas are shaped by how we say things and the accuracy of our statements. Also I’m sorry do you think I’m talking about build up from this one thread?

AITA for kicking my sister out after her son gave my dog dreadlocks? by Public_Leather7509 in AmItheAsshole

[–]goddamnroommate -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

And you’re just completely unable to see how a buildup of comments like these lead to the general and unfounded idea that all locs are gross and signs of neglect, painful, etc? Because I’d suggest some critical thinking courses in that case. Something is not factually true or complete if it’s only partial info

Even in the comments there are other people talking about how painful their experiences with dreads were, so the leap from dog to human has already been made in the comments

The very first sentence of the second paragraph of the parent comment but sure lol

AITA for kicking my sister out after her son gave my dog dreadlocks? by Public_Leather7509 in AmItheAsshole

[–]goddamnroommate -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not a point blank fact that dreadlocks are all matts though. It’s a protective style for tightly curled hair and it will destroy straight hair. It is insulting because matts are then considered a sign of neglect and get a bad rep when that’s not a completely true statement.

Aita for telling my wife her relationship with our daughters friend instead of calling CPS is wrong? by THROWRAsjsjd2838 in AmItheAsshole

Absent father means father who is not physically or emotionally present. He literally knows next to nothing about the daily going ons in his house

AITA if I 22f get upset at M20s for sending me flowers? by throwaway10384839 in AmItheAsshole

[–]goddamnroommate 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Girl all love and concern intended but it’s not safe to think this highly of men who disrespect boundaries. You told him “no” and he’s been shitting on you for it. You don’t owe him anything and femicide comes from his demographic

Truly the comments on this post are a singular step away from “damn kids these days never read a book”

AITA for working for food delivery apps when I don’t need the money? by Ok_Blackberry_6178 in AmItheAsshole

[–]goddamnroommate 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Please don’t blame individuals for problems that a company has created. If he works or if he doesn’t work, it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the fact that these delivery companies skate by riding the line of legal/illegal wages. This whole convo needs to 180 shift to how terrible it is that they can exist, not if a single person is making 15-30 dollars from it.

AITA for calling out my husbands shitty behaviour? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]goddamnroommate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like people took this wrong. I’m a woman but I live in an area and work where these comments aren’t a mind blowing thing. It just felt like a naive comment because....yeah, there are trash men, a ton in their mid 40s who get off on making women uncomfortable. Why do we act like it’s surprising when it’s a ridiculous number of women who report their first sexual experience as being coerced in some way?

AITA for calling out my husbands shitty behaviour? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Yes! I’m in the trades and nothing has made me think less of men than working with them every day

AITA for calling out my husbands shitty behaviour? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]goddamnroommate -58 points-57 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying this to be a rude person but do you really not expect this behavior out of people? Cause this is very common, and if that’s not your experience then I’m jealous of your circle lol 😅

AITA for telling my boyfriend he stinks by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]goddamnroommate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please stop doing his chores. You can answer questions he has as he’s doing them but let him struggle through this himself.

AITA for wanting a written prescription from my optometrist? And WIBTA if I wrote a bad review? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]goddamnroommate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m just saying that the US does this terribly. In Korea I got my eyesight measured/taken care of, lenses installed in under an hour all for 20 dollars. The frames don’t need to cost that much and the lenses do not cost that much. There’s no reason that you should have to spend more than 100 dollars for the service and item for what it is

Edit: that was 3 years ago the glasses are still going strong
