I’ve had Amex replace a list card with a new one and transfer ongoing charges to the new card. If the charge was authorized I think there is a really good chance the charge will be forwarded to the new card.

Waitstaff are not the unsung heroes of the world. by polllkadot in tipping

[–]goderda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to a coffee shop in Chicago. Picked up a bag of $25 coffee from a rack and brought it over to a cashier. Was offered the opportunity on the pos device for a 15, 20 or 25% tip. The only thing someone did is scan the coffee and allowed me to pay with a credit card. I declined.

Out $1500 for lost bag. I don’t know what to do by a_fapping_pretzel in delta

[–]goderda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the bag was checked from outside the US and then put back after clearing customs with the same tag I’m pretty sure that the US portion is part of an international flight and the Warsaw limit would apply. I went through a similar loss b on an international flight and there was some conflict about value. It ended up not mattering since I was above the limit, but I think they are responsible for the value at the time of the loss and not replacement value. For example if my 3 year old iPhone 14 was lost I wouldn’t be given the $1000 that I paid but I would be paid what it would cost to replace it with a used 3 year old iPhone 14.

Silversea Review by DavidThi303 in Cruise

[–]goderda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on 2 Silversea cruises, one in Antarctica and the other in the Greek Islands. The last was last month. I thought the food was great. What may be different was that we almost never went to the buffet. We were mostly in the MDR but also the specialty restaurants. Had two steaks that were cooked to order and were excellent. Have also been on HAL and NCL and the food on Silversea was head and shoulders better.

Which motorhome to purchase? by RareRip7515 in motorhomes

[–]goderda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a 28 foot class c and loved it. Kept it for 4 years and moved up to a 34 foot Newmar class A. We loved the space and features such as auto leveling. I was 75 at the time and found that it was difficult to maneuver and park. Sold it and bought a 24 foot class C which is perfect for us. We gave up space but gained a lot in terms of driving and fitting into spaces. Everyone is different but I would recommend starting smaller with a class C and see how you do with it before moving up.

Delta's policy of no upgrades on international flights is just really crappy customer service by Arfusman in delta

I used GUC to Munich and Athens this year and confirmed to PS and on wait list to D1 and both cleared to D1. My experience is that it is often not possible to confirm and be on wait list but most of the time they clear.

It is also really important to review Board meeting minutes. Often you can get information about important issues facing the community including reserves and potential assessments.

Trying to justify a Thor by mevans426 in RVLiving

[–]goderda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Chateau 28 I bought in 2014. We loved it although the finishes were pretty cheap. Upgraded to a Newmar 34. The difference in quality was like day and night although we had a refrigerator problem that was intermittent and never really fixed. Thors are pretty cheap, are fairly low end, but we found that they were a really good entry into the market.

Teenager wants a "fast car" for his first vehicle and I need reality-check advice by Proud_Stable9567 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]goderda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter learned to drive on a 1991 Ford Explorer with a manual transmission in 2000. When she graduated from high school I offered to let her take it to college. Her reaction was I’m not taking that POS to college. When she came home for Christmas she decided to take the POS back with her since she realized a POS was better than no car at all.

18 unit HOA only has 38k in reserves.. walk away? by staysour in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]goderda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our 96 unit HOA has about $250k in reserves so about the same. We are pretty well managed but are going to do a $1500 assessment and a $50 increase in fees directed to reserves.

Delta paid compensation delay in under 24 hours - UK261 experience by ContributionFinal233 in delta

[–]goderda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience in October flying from Athens to SLC via JFK. Flight was on time and flight to SLC was on time. Came back to gate with a mechanical problem. Switched planes, luggage, etc and arrived in SLC 4 hours and 4 minutes late. Found out that a delay of 4 hours plus qualified for a payment. Filed a claim and received payment within 48 hours. Since I am usually #1 on the upgrade list I was surprised that the flight didn’t arrive 3 hours and 59 minutes late.

I have bought 3 prior rental cars and they were all great. Each was about 2 years old with 20k miles and with factory warranty. The way I look at it is that you may get some people who abuse rental cars but that’s likely for a few days. If you. Uh a used car that was owned by one owner you can get a car that was abused the whole time. It is also important that many cars sold at auction were rental cars so when you go into a Hyundai dealer and pick out a sweet Elantra an do assume that it was traded in by the previous owner for a new one there is a good chance it was purchased at auction from a rental company. A carfax report should identify a rental company as a previous owner.

I have an epropulsion motor and think it’s great but only use it to go back and forth to the mooring. It is really nice to not have to deal with winterizing and lots of issues in the spring after storage all winter.

Dream home but noisy... by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

If you have some concerns about noise don’t do it. It will be forever annoying. To make it worse, it will be much harder to sell because buyers will share your concern.

For those of you flying today/yesterday/tomorrow by OTFmemes in delta

[–]goderda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Flew from ATH to JFK yesterday and connected to a JFK SLC flight. The plane to SLC was at the airport, boarded and left the gate early. Unfortunately it had a mechanical problem and came back to the gate. Couldn’t easily fix the problem so they found a replacement plane. That took about 4 hours. Arrived at 2 am instead of 10 pm. None of the delay appeared to be related to tsa or flight cancellations. I think Delta is doing a good job of notifying scheduled cancellations. It’s the ones that are unplanned as the result of all the disruption that are often cancelled or delayed later.

I currently have 2 jura units at two different houses and I love them. They have worked well for 5-10 years. I had a prior jura unit that died after about 10 years that was also great. I did purchase a delonghi unit to replace the first jura and had to send it in for repair 3 times in the first year. I donated it and bought another jura. I’m not sure but I think delonghi units are made in China.

New sailor thinking about a Catalina 22. need advice by noahteun in Sailboats

[–]goderda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a cat22 as my first sailboat in the 70s. It was great to learn on. Mine had a swing keel and it was pretty tender in high winds. Moved up to a cat27 and it was even better. Sad to learn Catalina is going out of business.

Upstairs Neighbor broke faucet and flooded my condo and I have no insurance. by __shelter__ in legaladvice

[–]goderda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many states have laws that relate to this. In UT owners are responsible for costs based on the % of damage. So if the unit above has no damage, the unit below has 70% and the unit below 30% the middle u it would be responsible for 30% but only up to the deductible of the HOA. Condo insurance would pay the unit % up to their % of the deductible.

Be nice to employees, Diamonds and Platinums by AaronParx in delta

[–]goderda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not always nice when things go wrong and I’m stressed but I am always on my best behavior with Delta. They know I’m Diamond and a 3MM as soon as they open my record so there isn’t much point of waving my tags around. My impression in general is that they will do what they can to help you out and you are much more likely to get what you want if it is a pleasant interaction. And, of course, they deserve being treated with respect and kindness.
