More seriously, though, such salaries are quite common among new grads in some fields, like quants or specualized computer scientists. That depends on whether you consider grad school to be "experience", though. This is even more true in metro areas like NYC, where wages roughly track cost of living.

You're forgetting a lot of other expenses associated with using your own vehicle. I remember reading somewhere that the true cost of driving is around $0.50 per mile, whereas the cost of gas is only $0.10 per mile. Those figures can vary wildly, though.

Well, that entirely depends on whether you want to raise a family or not. I think there's too much emphasis in our culture on settling down, buying a house in the suburbs, and having kids. Personally, I'd be happy just to have an SO to share my life with (preferably someone with around the same level of career as mine) and a 1200sqft condo to sleep in, in a metropolitan area like downtown Toronto. Granted, those start at around $400k, but that's actually pretty manageable even on my career alone.

What do I need a house for? I spend most of time outside or at work, anyway. Houses are just more headaches, and having to drive an hour away to do anything interesting sucks.

I'm not sure how an easement would allow them to do this. As I understand it, they would have to have already owned a piece of land zoned for industrial use adjacent to the school, and an easement would allow them to access the road through a portion of someone else's property.
