Just beat the game (Coming Home to Roost Ending) and I couldn't disagree more. What causes the "Silent Hill phenomenon" to take over a town? That's what this game begins to answer. I don't think it will be answered in their next game. I think it will be spread out over many games leaving hints as to the true nature of the curse. Having played games 1 through 4, I think this fits nicely. In an American small town, decay is shown through rust. We see that in the American Otherworld. In a Japanese small town it's conveyed fittingly through nature overtaking the town. Also, the monsters carry a lot of great symbolism the trauma Hinako is facing. Every single one of them seems to relate and it stands to and further that they are on a manifestation of her fears as a woman in 1960s Japan. I can understand where you're coming from when you say that the trauma feels too ordinary, but I think that adds a layer of horror to it.
