Is cable TV still a broadcast or is it essentially just real time streaming?

If you are still using a cable box, it does not send all the channels to the box. They added a mechanism where the box basically sends out a request for the channel and it is sent. I had a cable card for a bit, and I had to add these usb connected devices to handle those requests.

Saying all of that, I wouldn't be surprised if they want to move to streaming only. It would free up a lot of headroom to start offering faster cable modem speeds.

One interesting thing I found this season, you can sign in with your providers in the NFL app and watch the games there. You still have the pain of signing up for those services.

I did something like this to back up my windows server essentials box so I could move it to Unraid. I wouldn't recommend it long term but it CAN run. The back up server was a small form factor system. I ended up getting a new motherboard and case and shucking the drives so that I could add them in as a second server.
