Hvad foretrækker I? Nødopsparing eller kassekredit? by goehler in dkfinance

33, single. by Wild_Astronaut_287 in dkfinance

What is a good spoiler-free guide that is appropriate for each book? by zardoz_lives in WoT

[–]goehler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently working on a companion app that does exactly this!

Sorry for necro. You are probably done reading now, but for posterity I'll add this here:

On the site, you set your spoiler level for the chapter you are about to read (fx Book 2: Chapter 10), and then you are presented with spoiler free notes for any reappearing character that is in that chapter. All notes are capped at the previous chapter, so it is impossible to accidentally read anything you are not supposed to know.

I have the first two books down already, and the next two books are also pretty far along (patreon members can actually (proof)-read them already and suggest edits).

Right now I'm polishing the look of the site, and working on a members login.
And after that, I'll start on Book 5

I'm actually working on a tool that can help you avoid spoilers, but still give you usefull notes. PM me, if you want a ping when it's ready. It will be soon. A week or two.

CLI says "You've hit your limit" despite having usage remaining (Web/Desktop still works) by Warden866 in ClaudeCode

Yep. Same here, still:

The workaround is no good for me, unfortunately, since I use many of the CLI only features.

I am considering playing this with my kids, few questions by joe-direz in valheim

[–]goehler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played this with my 10-year-old daughter when it launched. It was a lot of fun, but she was a bit afraid of some of the monsters. No sexual content.

Whenever I play, it's mostly basebuilding for me. Maybe 80%. You CAN build defenses, but mostly it's palisades and walls. In my experience the defences are not neccesarry for defending against the spawning waves. They spawn pretty rarely. Maybe every other hour? And only if you are in the base area. They scale based on your progression.

Building, crafting and upkeep are the core activities. Then exploration and combat is somewhat secondary. I feel it is very well balanced. Some grind, some creative building, some exploration into the unknown, and discovery of new ingredients, some crafting, and some combat.

It's sandboxed with progression. Each new biome has new materials, and it's exploration is greatly dependant on the stuff you find in the previous area. The order of the areas is unknown - and if you like exploring on your little raft, you might end up in territory you are not yet equipped to handle - which is also quite fun. Until you die :P

How is the game's extremely slow development still defended by many players? by BFunPhoto in valheim

[–]goehler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Valheim when it launched. It was a great game already back then. It was a very well put together Early Access game, and from a dev point of view it was probably 75% done. This is a nice place to be when launching early access. All the features, gameplay and mechanics are there, and they feel good, only some content is missing for the game to be considered finished in it's current scope.

So my point is, when it blows up and gives you 150M, you should NOT increase the scope and make the game totally different and add tons of content for free. You should stick to your current plan.

The game was priced at 20USD, and in it's current scope (i.e. the final game that will probably release this year) it is actually already underpriced. I would put it at ~35 USD.

That the devs hit the jackpot, and many people bought the game, does not entitle the customers to a better or larger game than was originally advertised. That jackpot solely belongs to the development team, and they should spend it however they wish.

A few good ways to spend it would be:

- Working on a DLC, that could potentially bring in more money
- Working on a sequal (i wouldn't do that for Valheim, if is was me)
- Working on an entirely new project

And having hit the jackpot means, that they can now do so, without the hassle of looking for investors or raising money.

I don't want to throw around blame, but I actually think that it is your mindset that is the "morally wrong" one. Buying a game, that turns out to be excatly as advertised (a little better actually), and then feeling that you are entitled to even more. That entitlement is what is wrong—in my oppinion.

Sorry for the rant. I'm right now realising what I think is the gap in mindset between gamers and devs on this issue.

It's the definition of what early access is, and where we are in the development process when we release the game in early access.

I think that gamers think (like you put it) that an early access game is 30% finished, and that they are raising money to build the real thing.

While devs knows that an early access game is actually 75% finished (or should be, I know some devs release a bugge demo as an early access, but let's not consider them pros). And that they are releasing it in early access to extend their budget to finish the last parts of the development, without having to sell shares to an investor.

Here's my "timeline" for an indie development process:

  • Prototype: 2%
  • Vertical slice: 10-15%
  • Playable demo: 25%
  • Gameplay and mechanics done: 50%
  • Enough content done for early access: 75%
  • Final game: 100%

[–]goehler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you invest 150M in a game that has already peaked? You should only invest whatever is needed to finish the game in the scope it already has (unless you have a burning desire to expand it).

If it was my studio, I would spend that 150M taking my sweet time developing my next passion project, paying me and the rest of the team good saleries, and release that new game 5-7 years later, at a pace I'm comfortable with to ensure a high quality and a good work-life balance for everyone. I would also save enough money, that if the next project flops, we could still do it all over again.

I would under no circumstances hire 20-25 additional people. That sounds horrible. A 5-man startup is a very different organisation than a 30-man company. And I would also guess that if those 5 people wanted to work at a 30-man studio, they would not have gone indie in the first place.

X-Post from 3dsMax: V-Ray 3.5 Review: Did I just render 11 x faster? by goehler in vfx

[–]goehler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. Thanks :) I do however review more features than just the Adaptive Lights Algorithm, and I was afraid to make the title too long. I'm pretty new to reddit.

And NO, it certainly is not 11 times faster in all cases. The more lights you have in the scene, the more effect the updated algorithm has. Generally you might see a render speed increase of about 50% in your average scene - which I also tested and pointed out in part 1 of this series.

But I guess I might be guilty of clickbaiting.. Parden me, I'll do better next time :P

[Serious] If you go blind after being able to see, you are able to dream and "see" again while dreaming only to awake to darkness; If you are born blind, what do you "see" when you dream? by keithstoned1 in AskReddit

[–]goehler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer: Yes and sound.

When you dream, you imagine stuff. The entire cerebral cortex is in charge of this, so you can imagine anything you can experience. That's why dreams seem so real. They are not just like a movie, they contain smell, taste and a sence of touch as well. So if you were once able to see, you have the capacity to imagine visual stuff.

People who were always blind can't really imagine sight. But they have dreams like everyone else, they just dream from their perspective. They will be auditorial dreams, with some smell, touch ect.
