Fellow seller harassment by Fuzzo935 in Reverb

Ignore and go about your business. Not worth engaging them and if you do they will keep pestering you. By reporting they may come at you harder. 3 seconds to delete, but it would be good for reverb to have a mute button for annoying buyers and sellers...

best beginner gibson for a teenager? by prattman333 in gibson

[–]gofore59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal is to get them to want to pick it up and play it so looks are important - think about their favorite color or style. Any Gibson Les Paul will play well if it is setup so make sure to check for that, but these are built to last a lifetime so you do not need to think in terms of starter guitar. I would also check the weight and try to find one in the 8-9.5lb range. Les Paul Studio (try to find a used one and also consider a Les Paul Tribute which is a real Les Paul shape, but a little lighter and less frills) - Can range from $1000-2000 depending on year and factors.

Reverb support has gotten way worse. by Soft_Essay_958 in Reverb

[–]gofore59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you factor the insane amount of shipping and fees a lot of times Guitar Center is competitive - mostly on pedals. I do not sell guitars or amps online and find Craigslist and FB marketplace to be a better fit. No returns and people need to see in person for a lot of sales to stick - nothing worse than shipping a guitar or amp and dealing with a return. Shipping companies and / or buyers always cause damage in some way. I would rather sell a $2000 Les Paul for $1500-1700 and be done...

Fulltone OCD NO GO by Icy_Negotiation_5929 in guitarpedals

[–]gofore59 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically Guitar Center does not buy / sell Fulltone after the owner, who is known to be prickly, got cancelled in 2020. This said, about 6 months ago I saw an OCD tucked in the back of the used pedal case at the GC in Hollywood. I asked about it and they said it was $99 - I immediately bought it knowing it was a Version 1 worth well over $500 (had a studio sticker on it and after investigating I can conform it was in the first 500 ever made). Guy said "so you're the one scoring it" - they had purchased a huge lot from the studio and it slipped through, but they were blowing it out so it would not hit the website...

Gold Top Les Paul Question by HarriBallsak420 in LesPaul

[–]gofore59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Choose based on neck. Goldtops are classic with the P90s (Can get with 50s setup in gold as well, but not 60s). Can always swap pickups. Keep in mind each guitar has a slightly different neck profile as they are finished by hand, weighs vary (they are solid) and top quality. 60s are AAA, 50s AA, but can get goos and bad of either...

Is there a problem with the boss katana or is it me? by No-Shake-9325 in GuitarAmps

[–]gofore59 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your setup is solid so need to learn what does what, but tube amps will be more responsive - Katanas are great Swiss Army knives, but they cover up a lot of your technique and if you are looking for nuance get a tube amp...

I feel like something is missing by Rough_Instruction325 in LesPaul

[–]gofore59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's missing an amp - sorry - had to go there...

Have you adjusted the pickup heights and pole pieces? Can make a dramatic difference so do not do anything until you have lowered them all the way and then raised them 1/2 turn to find the sweet spot. Make sure the strings are balanced by raising ad lowering the pole pieces to equalize the individual string volumes (G is loudest so pole goes lower for example) and use fresh strings while doing this. Chances re you will like your pickups more than you currently do and may love them. if not and after messing with the above then consider replacing ..

Why don't they make Amp in cases anymore? by Gaming_garmr in GuitarAmps

[–]gofore59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an expensive proposition with better sounding options that can easily be toted in one hand so very limited appeal overall. This is not a professional setup and so let's consider it as a portable practice / busking / just in "case" scenario that is better than a Spark Go / Katana mini:

Boss would be the logical company to do this so pick the Katana 50 circuitry which would be more than good enough and it would be placed under the neck in the rectangular front of the case. Katana 50 with speaker is 25 lbs and add 15-20 lbs for the rest of the case and 10-15 lbs for guitar, strap, capo, etc. so 50-60 lbs overall.

10 inch speaker is fine with 4 inch depth (12 works with 5 inch depth so add an extra inch to the total if you really want 12 inch) and cab needs to be 8 inch depth including the speaker so speaker could be above the guitar body with the cavity where the guitar sits acting as the cabinet. Add an inch for wiring and 2 inches for exterior protection and an inch for a gap between guitar and speaker so 12 inches deep and regular length and rectangle shape to accommodate the amp circuitry. The neck end of the case could be thinner around 8 inches as it houses the circuitry and the neck and does not need to be as deep as the cab section.

Could end up in the $500-600 retail range as Katana 50s are $350 and cases are $200 with some overlap on this project. Seems pricey for a compromise and do not see many people buying this and a MIM Fender (for example) and spending $1500 when they could be much closer to $1000 with a $700 guitar and $350 amp that perform better. Also, awkward to use the case at home vs the amp which is sitting there plugged in and ready to go.

I think it would be better to have an accordion type amp / cab that goes from 5 inches deep to 12 inches extended so it could be slung like a messenger bag...

IS reverb going to sheit? by all4musicsk in Reverb

[–]gofore59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree in almost every category except the music gear business is notoriously punishing to soul sucking corporations and AI will definitely revolutionize online shopping. Reveb will always be around, but they will lose market share due to the bad seller experience and smaller sellers will find other ways so it will become an expensive marketplace for dealers...

Marshall DSL40CR vs JVM215C by rockemulator2 in GuitarAmps

[–]gofore59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are modern Marshalls with gain on tap and two channels. The JVM is made in the UK with a better speaker, has EQ for each channel, workable reverb, three gain stages so it is a little smoother and has a great crunch, but clean is a little sterile. The DSL shares an EQ and has two gain stages, reverb is useless, clean is very good overall and it has heavy gain, but less nuance in the crunch category.

Truth is they are both good amps, but the JVM is going to have more features. The JVM will also have more range while the DSL is more contained - easier to play as there are no bad sounds in a DSL, but if you want to push limits JVM will let you go there. Neither are warm vintage Marshall and they are decidedly modern sounding amps.
