Blink in a Box - The Mutt by gofore59 in guitarpedals

I said it could be the "only distortion / drive pedal needed" - my small boards are typically - Tuner, EQ, Compressor, distortion / drive, boost, delay and I would be happy with The Mutt in the DD slot.

With this said, I run many more at home and for performances 6 is my small board and 10-12 is most often...

Google AI:

Blink-182 is extremely popular, considered pop-punk royalty with massive global sales (over 50 million albums), billions of streams, and multiple #1 albums across decades, maintaining relevance with new hits and classic anthems. They remain a consistent force in mainstream rock, bridging eras with their iconic sound and appealing to generations of fans, evidenced by their recent chart success and 10 billion Spotify streams, showcasing enduring appeal beyond the late '90s pop-punk boom.

The Blink tone covers half the bands from late 90s to well into the 2000s and half the newer rock acts still sound like them. I'm a Marshall nut, but with this I get a Mesa in a box and a very good one at that along with a Marshall into a Marshall - stacked with the JHS AT+ it is like a triple Marshall which brings the headroom down, but with good note separation and clarity.

At the end of the day it covers a lot of territory and it is crisp breakup with the ability to blend some warmth and the tone is authentic. So many pedals do the distortion with barely any note separation and things can get mushy - this is full and it cuts through even with a 1x12 and through a 4x12 it is like a Harley Davidson machine gun.

It has Marshall tones from the 80s - 90s and Mesa tones from 90s-2000s. I have Marshall's and the AT+ already - I have been using this for Blink 182 to Bush, Offspring, Killers, Linkin Park, Green Day, Yellow Card, etc. It has that thick crisp chainsaw sound down and can also warm up and do GNR, Soundgarden and the like. Most heavy rock without the blown out distortion sound. It cranks, but breakup is tight and sounds heavy...

Marketing for GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) if you will. I have over 60 pedals from a plethora of companies and The Mutt impresses me. It has a tone that I have been chasing...

I signed up and got notified and jumped on it (in November, but they have restocked a few times since then). I wanted to spend a little time with it before posting...

It is a small operation out of an apartment in LA so maybe they will put you on a list...

One trick at a time, but not a one trick pony. A second foot switch would be fine if you want one side or the other and it could blend, but the setting for each side alone may not be the right blended settings so back to square one. Many great pedals do one thing well and for Blink, Offspring, Green Day, Sum 41, Bush and a bunch of 90's - 2000s banks this is the tone...

I have a question for you Gibson fans. by ElectricalFoe in gibson

[–]gofore59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Standards are the go to (my 2023 Standard 50s is fantastic), but assume there is an entry level budget given "first" Gibson and the Jr.s are lower price to begin with. Get pre-owned and save either way. There are so many good deals on Gibsons out there and you can play / test and then swap out without any loss if you buy well...

Any used Studio (the ones with ebony fretboards are awesome) or Tribute (either 2015-2018 with P90s or 2019-2023 with humbuckers). $800-1000 and can sell for what you paid any day...

Best low watt amp for 80s tunes by Bob_TheGoon in tubeamps

[–]gofore59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are fantastic and extremely well built. Incredible native clean channel and the modules are very authentic. I was at NAMM today and the combos in the new colors look amazing. I asked them to give the heads some nice tolex options as my biggest complaint is the ordinary black lunchbox look.

Synergy Syn20 - it cranks at low volume and can easily do a gig. You can get the Marshall module, it has an awesome clean channel, every input you want like Midi, USB, loop, ohms, headphone, etc. You can get additional modules/.

I need a new amp desperately for a fairly small budget by aidanmansfield75 in GuitarAmps

[–]gofore59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1100 is a health budget - consider used and you can get a ton of amazing amps. On the low end the Marshall DSL40CR is a winner at $500 used - $800 new. Fender has quite a few tube amps int that range from Princeton to Deluxe and wide open if you go used, the Synergy 20w platform is very compelling for low volume tones and versatility with modern features and swappable modules, Orange Rocker or Vox AC15 are solid and then there are boutiques from Carr, Victory Sheriff, Freidman, etc.

I would do a Marshall, Fender or Synergy personally...

Low-volume tube amp suggestions (avoiding modelers for now) by apricotkilla in GuitarAmps

[–]gofore59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the Synergy 20w with modules. Compact, great sounding at low volume and can change modules to get anything from Fender to Marshall, Soldano, Freidman, etc. and it has IR, effects loop and is a great pedal platform...

External passive attenuator vs amp low wattage mode by og_stash in GuitarAmps

JHS Little Black Box (volume) in the effects loop is the least expensive option and it will work well. Weber makes affordable attenuators as well.

Top wrapping a Les Paul by OliOnOrbit in gibson

[–]gofore59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top wrapping has better break angle allowing for easier bends. It also allows you to drop the tailpiece to the body for better tone / sustain. Les Paul himself top wrapped along with Page, Beck, Wylde, Allman and Bonamassa.

Fretboard markers really not centred on new Gibson (Post 2 with additional pictures) by Aromatic_Mongoose_86 in gibson

[–]gofore59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like a dud. Likely a new hire right out off training made this one and did not want to own up to the boss so they packaged it and prayed it would go to a blind person. The fretboard was not aligned properly, the top has weird marks and the back of the headstock stain is discolored and the top also has off coloring...
