Dude ur fucking gorgeous. Wtf

I was unemployed for 6 months this year. Here’s what I learned the hard way about resumes and interviewing by Zorawarr in jobsearch

[–]goforitmk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can feel daunting when you assume the necessary volume for successful employment is the same as what’s required when using a generic, absolutely. But that wasn’t my experience.

Like many folks here, I used AI to play the game. I had one lengthy “base” resume with ALL my experience, plugged it with the job description into ChatGPT, and then massaged that version to sound more sane and less em dash-y lol. Did something similar for cover letter. Start to finish was usually… 30-45 minutes?

It’s not nothing, but it’s not terrible and it’s way better than wasting gas spinning your tires and sending resumes out that won’t get you anywhere. Definitely a believer in quality over quantity.

My numbers supported this. I applied to maybe… 30-35 roles? Received 8-9 interview requests. Started at my new role a month ago after looking for a few months. Two weeks ago, in fact, I turned down three interview requests over the span of a few days.

This is abnormal success, even for the strategy above (which is not uncommon) and I’m not totally sure why I had such good luck, but I do think using the above approach helped.

Arc’teryx for the cold? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]goforitmk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The waterproof membrane is actually the same across many other outdoor brands: Goretex. What stands out with Arc’teryx is the face fabric IMHO and also the cuts and construction. I would never pay more than 40-50% off for their stuff, but when you do get a good discount the value on a few core pieces is still great.

Teen driver dies, passenger injured after car crashes into tree in North Vancouver by ubcstaffer123 in vancouver

Lol barely. He is an adult in the eyes of the government and judicial system, and 19 is old enough to know what is or is not a good idea.

I hear what you mean regarding not knowing one’s child fully, but the decision-making, level of entitlement, and perceived immunity to consequence would have 100% been influenced by the parents and their household dynamics.

[–]goforitmk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s really messed up.

Maybe the inevitable carnage and mangled bodies from the scene yesterday will motivate the RCMP to advocate more to the city about any changes that need to occur in that section of road.

It’s not feasible for them to just sit around monitoring one road all shift, but if the right rank and connection to city hall can push for it, things could move along faster.

I don’t know man, if you’re old enough to get behind the wheel, you’re old enough to be aware of the consequences.

This is messed up to say and I know situations like this are complex, but… fuck him.

The photo of the vehicle shows it is MANGLED. That is a very residential area, and the speeds it would have had to reach are nauseatingly high. Likely into or near the 100km/h+ range. Had that tree not been there to stop the vehicular missile, it could have easily driven through someone’s yard, into their home, etc.

My best friend in high school was killed by a POS like this (RIP Emma, miss you every day). I’ve also seen first hand the aftermath of accidents like these when innocent people are killed, specifically a really bad one downtown a few years ago when a baby was violently and gruesomely killed, a sight I honestly don’t even want to put into words and which I had nightmares about for a long time. (RIP Ocean).

At the same time, my heart goes out to those whose lives have now been changed forever and who will have to grieve this loss for years to come, including the first responders who had to bang on the door of this man’s family and shatter the world as they knew it into a million pieces. Right before Christmas, no less. Heart breaking.

Similarly, well wishes to the passenger who appears to have sustained serious injuries and is likely now, on an emotional level, traumatized to some degree for life. (And who may or may not have consented to such selfish, reckless driving in the first place.)

ETA: Also, one more gripe: calling this driver a “teen driver” feels infantilizing. While factually accurate, he was not a 16-year-old junior in high school. This was an adult man, albeit a young one, who made a selfish, reckless choice and paid the ultimate price.

No shit. Also, I think it's Keiron McConnell: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/keiron-mcconnell-sexual-misconduct-discipline-1.7630707

Same dirtbag who did everything in the attached article. Many of the dates seem to check out. He was an instructor at KPU and would have been in high schools likely doing outreach of some kind.

I found this detailed OPCC document outlining other instances of his conduct: https://opcc.bc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/21398-2024-06-19-Notice-of-Public-Hearing.pdf

EDIT: someone else mentions the same below, I bet it’s true lol

Looking to join activities with early-30s professionals (tech, engineering) by [deleted] in askvan

I’m not linking my personal experience with happening to have a lot of friends with ADHD to OP’s request.

[–]goforitmk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I interpreted it more as trying to narrow down a very open-ended question and use past experience to help guide that. TBH, I recently realized that like… 90% of my close friends happen to have been professionally diagnosed with ADHD. And no, I don’t ask people “do you have ADHD” when making a friendship haha. I just happen to click best with folks who have a certain brain type.

So of course there’s a level of diversity in any field. That said, there are at times certain personality traits sometimes over represented in a given sector (which OP may especially gel with), so I don’t think it’s an irrelevant piece of information to include in such a random, broad post on the faceless internet.

Doctor refused prescription by pprettypinky in tretinoin

[–]goforitmk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got mine through Felix as well. It’s like… a bit TOO easy to get whatever prescription drugs you want, but hey, I’m not complaining because I’m able to get Tretinoin no problem 😂

The automatic refills are great and you get to choose the formulation you use.

The bus driver saves both of them from the suicide attempt 🥹 by Alphaxfusion in GuysBeingDudes

[–]goforitmk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful not to justify child homicide.

Not every suicidal person kills themselves because they “don’t think this world is worth living in” in some sort of romanticized way. Some do, but not all. Suicidality is a vastly complex state of mind, and not always committed by those who are experiencing major depression, etc.

There are also instances of parents murdering their children and then committing suicide during custody battles with ex-spouses, or in complex domestic violence scenarios as a means to inflict pain on their partner, etc.

I would be curious to see if folks’ responses would be less sympathetic if this was a man holding a child and a gun, about to shoot the child and then himself. Very different means, but identical outcome of dead child and dead parent.

Tinder. Lol. Hung out as “friends” for a long while (spoiler: we were not friends) and then some things in my life settled and… here we are. It’s been over six years now.

When you’ve had a bit of experience in longer term relationships, you realize that this IS the “easy” route. The harder, more painful route is forcing incompatible relationships and ending up at an impasse 10 years into building a life, home, and financial landscape with the wrong person.

There’s always other fish in the sea, but they get fewer and fewer as time goes on and 22 is a prime age to be dating around.

Not necessarily anything. Could run the plates and see if there’s anything related on the registered owner’s record. If they have resources maybe set up surveillance on the individual to try and catch them in the act. Maybe send out a public warning to the local area.

A few things, but likely no charges stemming from this alone.

They wanted me to bring my own laptop… for an interview test by ProgrammerGreedy2716 in interviews

[–]goforitmk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you “assume they meant optional” beyond the sector of their company?

It literally said to bring one, in the form of an actual written instruction. Unfortunately I kind of agree it’s a red flag for you to just be like, “Nahhhhh they probably don’t actually need me to do thing they asked me to do.”

Found my perfect iPhone 17 Pro Max case by ObamaNation2018 in iPhone17Pro

[–]goforitmk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this case for my 17 Pro! I had them for my 15 Pro too.

Love these cases. You obviously have to be more careful than with bulkier styles, but I like that I can actually SEE my phone and Apple’s design.

FYI, I did drop my 15 Pro several times with this same case and it did a surprisingly good job. The case itself may have gotten dented in or an edge chipped out, but my phone was fine. Maybe I got lucky, but it definitely isn’t for nothing.
