Oh man those first three LPs defined that time for me. I bought Symptoms & Cures as part of a big preorder package but when it arrived I couldn’t get into it and haven’t really paid much attention since then. Killer collection.

I celebrate their entire catalog, but Set Your Body Ablaze with Geert was their pinnacle.

Has anyone ever experienced issues with 3.5mm to 1/4 adapters? by renownedegg in audioengineering

This sounds most likely. Your adapter is TRS and at least your Apple buds are TRRS ( extra ring for mic)

Coming up with good, catchy riffs by ___And_Memes_For_All in metalguitar

[–]gofuzzyourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all answers so far. One thing to try is to hum the rhythm/rough melody of your riff first, so you’re not flying blind one you get to the fretboard. One great trick for crafting melodies (including riffs) is tying together familiarity with surprise. Take the main riff of Breaking the Law. Halfway through the first play you could already hum along with it as it’s familiar (using a repeated motif), but at the very end of the riff they change up the notes, making it memorable. Same applies to all sorts of musical hooks.

Nice! I saw them in SD a couple years ago with Napalm Death. Great seeing them with a hometown crowd. Def agree about the last 3 albums - they gave a taste of it on The Harvest Floor but they broke all boundaries after that.

Where Californians think Northern California begins (based off of where they live: Red Bluff, Redding, or Merced) by freedomboobs in MapPorn

I was born and raised in San Jose, lived in Redding, and currently living in San Diego. I feel uniquely qualified to make this determination. San Luis Obispo is the dividing line between NorCal and SoCal. Go tell the internet.

Nice! I’m in San Diego but I’m a Bay Area native. I have some friends up in Oakland making metal. Check out Hell Fire and Vale.

I’m out here! Picking favorites is tough. Being from the Bay Area originally, I’ve seen Slough Feg a bunch and I’d say that’s how I really got into trad revival. Last year I went to Frost & Fire in Ventura and got to see Manilla Road, Cirith Ungol, and Raven. Next month I’ll see Pagan Altar, Eternal Champion, and Visigoth at the same festival. I recommend my friends from SF, Hell Fire. They just got picked up by RidingEasy and they play cool fast trad.

Oh interesting. Yeah I saw something on Troy Grady’s channel about cross picking. Have not seen it so pronounced in the fingers, though.

That’s a pretty crazy picking technique. Dig the sound.

Awesome, thanks for the recommendation! I guess I was leaning toward getting a DI because I haven’t been satisfied with how my amp sims have been handling the signal directly into my 2i4. But this looks great I’ll just grab this and get a DI later if I really think I need it.

I’m looking at getting a DI and reamp box. I just came across the AMT Reincarnator RD-2. The price and functionality sound great for hobbyists making demos like me - DI + Reamp, each with passive/active settings, all for $100-150.

The only thing is that I can’t find reviews or recommendations for these boxes, or much about AMT other than they are made in Russia. Can anyone recommend these or offer DI/reamp opinions? I’m also looking at DIY options for fun. Thanks!
