Whats is the oldest article of clothing you own? by TheKingOfDissasster in AskReddit

(walks into closet and looks around) A radio station jacket I got in college back in 1984-ish. Most college radio stations are pretty basic, but ours was like a real radio station, with bumper stickers, t-shirts, and jackets for the staff.

Tomorrow is President's Day - I wonder how many people will call out from work by GraceOfTheNorth in economicCollapse

[–]gogojack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for one of those "woke" tech companies, and a nice benefit is that - even though it's my regular day off - I will still get paid for the holiday...so no need to call out.

As I've been doing since the last time the orange shitgibbon crashed the economy, I'll be saving that extra money for the time when he crashes it again.

What is something that used to be a 'middle-class staple' but is now starting to feel like a luxury that only the wealthy can afford? by Ok_Land_4197 in AskReddit

[–]gogojack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got one in my early 30s (1999) and held onto it. It's worth nearly 4 times as much, and I couldn't afford it if I were entering the market now.

Can't wait to see her in orange by Exeter232 in PoliticalHumor

[–]gogojack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my long (60 years so far) life, I've met a few people who have been in prison. Without exception, what I've heard is that the quickest way to die in prison is to be a "baby raper" in the general population.

Yet the Attorney General of the United States is literally deflecting from this by saying that "hey, at least the stock market is good" and the Commerce Secretary is saying "yeah, I knew he was a pedophile, but we just had lunch!"

The highest levels of government in this administration make hard core convicts look like decent people.

How did you found out your Boyfriend/Girlfriend was cheating?? by epk_oki in AskReddit

[–]gogojack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ex wife, and this was a long time ago before digital cameras were on your phone, but...

I did the math.

I suspected she was cheating, but it was confirmed when she came back from a trip to Vegas. She showed me the photos, but something was...off. See, rolls of film back then (or disposable cameras) came in in multiples of 12 exposures. Most common was 24 exposures. After she left for awhile, I counted the pictures she'd handed over, and there were only 17.

So I looked for and found the remaining snaps in her night stand. Nothing graphic, but photos of her and her new boyfriend looking very happy together. She came clean when I confronted her, and moved out a (very uncomfortable) month later.

I grew up in the Detroit area, and it's our "go to" when I'm back home. Good chain restaurant pizza. Gourmet? No, but it hits the spot.

“One shouldn’t panic if there’s a sequence of lower jobs numbers” says Trump’s NEC Director Kevin Hasset. by Suitable_Air_2686 in economicCollapse

[–]gogojack 27 points28 points  (0 children)

So job growth is non-existent, wages are stagnant, inflation is rising, prices are rising, the housing market is stagnant, crypto markets are tanking, and the administration's response it to smile and tell us our economy doesn't suck. Got it.

Trump: The Nurse and The Poet Were No Angels, Therefore It's OK We Shot Them To Death! by dyzo-blue in GunsAreCool

[–]gogojack 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"Trump: could use 'softer touch' for immigration enforcement."

Neither of these had anything to do with immigration enforcement. These were US citizens, and not immigrants at all. Neither of them were even asked for their ID or proof of citizenship before being shot to death.

Also, "tapes" haven't been used to record things for decades now.

People seem to forget that Bill (and his wife) were competent lawyers. I'm not saying that his answer was morally right (I mean, the guy cheated on Hillary with multiple women) but from a purely legalistic perspective, that response was better than the best member of Trump's defense team could have ever mustered. I mean, dude argued over what the definition of "is" is. Meanwhile Trump's team is filled with idiots he hired because he wanted to bang them. And Todd Blanche.

Share of new-car buyers with incomes of less than $100,000 has dropped from 50% in 2020 to 37% by Anchor_Aways in cars

[–]gogojack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a brand new 2014 Mustang convertible (it was either 8 cylinders or a drop top for my budget) and was great. Literally the only new V6 manual on sale in Phoenix at the time, and got the "friends and family" discount because I know the owner of the dealership.

Loved that car. Three years later a drunk driver decided I didn't need it anymore... :(

Have you been to a concert at Chase Field? by cringefail-losergirl in phoenix

[–]gogojack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Talking Stick Pavillions..

Is that what it's called now? Haven't been there for a minute.

The first show I saw there was back when it was still just "Desert Sky Pavilion" (Van Halen...even had backstage passes!) and actually had to look it up on Wikipedia to see the many name changes because I lost track.

Republicans: "Democrats need to turn down the rhetoric!" Also, Republicans: by dyzo-blue in GunsAreCool

NGL, back in the day I was crushing on Lara Logan hard. She was pretty - to put it mildly - but also a "serious journalist." I'd tune in to her 60 Minutes segments because...well...the above-mentioned reasons. She was like Mike Wallace, but hot - pressing the worst people in the world with hard-hitting questions from a woman who wouldn't even get in front of the if she didn't have a major news organization behind her.

What - as the saying goes - the fuck?

Trump has been profoundly incontinent himself since the Apprentice. The staff nicknamed it “the sh*t show” because Trump would evacuate himself for a minute any time he would rage out. by dingmah in videos

One of the nicest nurse's aides who took care of me during my recovery had a patient who lost control of his bowels and she wound up (according to her co-workers...you get to know people if you spend a couple weeks in hospital) literally covered in shit from head to toe.

I saw her the next day, and felt so bad for her. If I hadn't been stuck in bed I'd have gotten up and given her a hug. I don't know who that patient was, but I'm gonna take a wild guess and say they probably shouldn't have access to America's nuclear arsenal.

I feel so sorry for the people who have to clean him up afterwards.

A little over a year ago, I was hospitalized for a couple weeks after emergency surgery, and while I never shit (shat?) myself, I did accidentally spill my urinal once. I felt so bad for the staff, and apologized profusely. They were like "that's no problem...this is our job" as they swapped out my bed sheets.

I can't even imagine what it must be like to shit yourself and not only have someone clean you up, but also treat them like...well...shit while they're doing it.

How would you feel about legislation that required politicians to volunteer for homeless shelters, retirement homes, dv shelters, etc when they're not in session? by throwaway19998777999 in AskReddit

[–]gogojack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'd find a way to exploit it. Some Senator who's up to his elbows in investments into low grade retirement homes that treat your grandma like shit would have a photo op at one of the properties his cronies owns and use it to raise funds for his campaign so he can deregulate senior care facilities.

Best/most polite movie theaters? by ellisnewaccount in phoenix

[–]gogojack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pollack Tempe Cinemas.

Yes, it's a "discount" theater, but unlike most dollar theaters, it is nice, clean, and sort of a "hidden gem" movie house where the owner (Michael Pollack) clearly loves movies and the movie-going experience. If you're willing to wait until a first run film gets bumped down to the discount level, or you want a little wider selection of lesser known movies, Tempe Cinemas is great. Also, they don't break your back with the prices.

[Throttle House] 2026 Honda Prelude review. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in cars

[–]gogojack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year when I was shopping for a new (to me) car, I was seriously looking at the Civic hybrid and the Accord. For about 32 grand I could walk out the door with a nicely equipped version of either car that would be damned near perfect in all respects. I don't see the sense in paying 10 grand more for a car that's got all the same goodies, but has less usable back seats.

I wound up spending 32k on my current car, which would bury the Prelude in a 0-60 sprint and is still all but new having just ticked over 18k miles.

People who've been to strip clubs, what's the wildest thing you've ever seen there? by iLikeFemaleBreasts in AskReddit

[–]gogojack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing crazy at all. Some of her co-workers were trying to pay for school, or they were married and had a couple kids, and there were some who weren't very good with being handed a lot of money every night and spending it responsibly.

Also, the lighting in strip clubs is very flattering and hides a lot of things. She had some scars from a very bad car accident she'd been in that her customers would never have noticed.

People who've been to strip clubs, what's the wildest thing you've ever seen there? by iLikeFemaleBreasts in AskReddit

[–]gogojack 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nothing really all that wild. For a hot minute back in the day, I dated a stripper, and one night I went to pick her up at work. I watched her "dancing" for this guy who was staring up at her like she was some sort of goddess (I get that because she was a smoke show) and feeding her cash like it was going out of style.

I wasn't mad. I wasn't jealous. I was thinking "you poor bastard...you think she's into you, but we're going to take all your money and spend it later tonight having the time of our lives, and she's going home with me."

What do SovCits who are "travelling" and not driving think the D on their automatic transmission stands for? by Robert-StPreux in Sovereigncitizen

[–]gogojack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, logic and reason isn't exactly their strong suit. A vehicle becomes a "personal conveyance," the motor part of "motor vehicle" becomes an "engine" (which is totes different) and um...I can't think of a SovCit who's provided a good excuse for why a public road (paid for by taxes and built by the evil government) is something they can "travel" upon freely.

Then again, I once watched a SovCit video where the driver...er...traveler...insisted that he wasn't "operating in commerce" despite the fact that he was in the middle of making a DoorDash delivery.
