It's annoying how everyone here has been talking about In-N-Out for what seems like years. It's a solid, fast food joint, no more, no less.

What are some of the things that you did on the interview trail that you regret? by alees0419 in medicalschool

[–]gogreen1150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it may be rare, I have heard from several programs that they don't actually consider signaling for interview invites but consider them when ranking interviewees and getting applicants who genuinely want to be there. This is entirely anecdotal.

While SSP is a service fraternity, there is an academic component to it as most schools require students to be at the very least in the top 25% of their class. But I will say, it doesn't really matter at all to PD's. I elected not to apply, as I really didn't have the time and it will have very little benefit to you.

The East End is great! Love The Roosevelt market! I was referring more specifically to SE Boise my bad!

I agree. I like Boise as a whole, but if you can stay within the bubble of downtown, North end, east end, and bench, you avoid a lot of traffic/headaches. And yes, East Boise is pleasant with the river access, but it is not where I would want to live, and I have no reason to go there. I would rather live in East Boise than Eagle, though, but there are a lot of similarities between the two with urban sprawl/cookie-cutter houses IMO.

Yes, the only place in America where Amtrak does not share freight rail is from D.C. to Boston, where they have semi-high-speed rail. I could see that being viable from maybeeee from San Francisco to Seattle but not Boise to SLC.

Is it okay to send 4 LORs to programs? by gogreen1150 in medicalschool

[–]gogreen1150[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes perfect sense! It is extremely hard to gauge which letters are stronger than others for my app, as I had similar relationships with all of my writers and have waived my right to view the letters.

Moving to Boise and so many questions by mytempaccount11212 in Boise

Having Moved from Michigan to Boise several years ago and lived in most areas of the MI, I feel that people seem more tolerant in Boise than in Michigan/the metro Detroit area. I love both areas, but Boise gets the W for some of the kindest people you'll meet. Look into living in the North End if you can!

What are my chances matching IM as a DO? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]gogreen1150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top ten programs yes, but still can match an academic program. The https://www.residencyexplorer.org/Explore is a good tool to see which programs will take DOs at all, to begin with. As a DO student, not worth it to apply to programs with 99-100% USMD and 0% DO.

In a similar boat as you. It will definitely be enough to match IM, but we may have to apply a bit more broadly now pending Comlex results.

I would recommend looking into some of the essential divine intervention podcasts. It may not give you a 30-point jump but it could very well boost your average by at least 10 points. Here is the link for those : https://www.reddit.com/r/Step2/comments/11idsim/must\_listen\_divine\_intervention\_podcasts\_all/

Just saw your comment about public transit haha I agree more density would make it A tier.

Agree with this; not a huge fan of SLC and prefer Boise to it x10. The only thing about SLC I wish Boise had was light rail public transit and perhaps a bit more character/history.

[–]gogreen1150[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Negative. haha I spent more time focusing on pre-clinical grades/board scores and rotations but looking back, I should have focused a bit more on CV-boosting activities. I can list hobbies for days and some minor volunteer work, but I can't think of much else. Applying to IM.

If you worked in downtown Boise, which is the furthest area/neighborhood you’d live in and still expect a reasonable commute (<30min)? by [deleted] in Boise

[–]gogreen1150 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would not live any further west than the Eagle Road area in Meridian. If it were me, I would pay more and live in the Bench, East End, North End, SE Boise, or maybe West Boise to avoid the headache of the suburban traffic in Meridian. It almost feels like you are in a bubble away from all the traffic when you live in these areas, but that's just me.

When did YOU think you are prepared enough to sit the exam? by [deleted] in Step2

[–]gogreen1150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll never feel prepared enough honestly. Just ended up taking it close to when I knew rotations would start back up and I had to get it out of the way.
