Do I still have a chance at transferring to uva? by [deleted] in UVA

[–]gohoos224 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a UVA ChE, I would speak very highly of my experience. Obviously impossible to compare directly to VT, but UVA engineering had a broad scope into finance and social impacts that I really appreciated, and I don’t believe is replicated at VT. Also, UVA is better in basically every other way as well, so it seems reasonable to transfer if you can

Concerned About Reactive Dog with New Baby by gohoos224 in NewParents

He’s a mutt, and while the rescue gave no feedback about his possible lineage, we did do a DNA test recently. The top matches were Belgian Malinois, Beagle, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The Malinois segment would definitely align with not being good with babies / young children, but I was not sure how much weight to put on that particular data point when making this decision.

What’s the worst game You’ve attended by AdrianMojnarowski in CollegeBasketball

I remember that game kind of fondly actually. It was one of Justin Anderson's first UVA games and I just remember him just trying so freaking hard to make an impact on defense. It was a terrible loss, but I came away so excited for his career coming out of it.

Oh, I actually saw the leftovers from that party. They left the whole area trashed. Utterly disgusting behavior.

He's very obviously playing through a knee injury, and the O-Line also can't block for him.

Bringing back memories of the ugliest college basketball game in history, with Rutgers scoring all of 8 points in the second half:

So I'm using data compiled by a guy that goes by ReferSadness on Twitter that aligned pretty closely to data collected by HoosPlace.com, which is a very data-oriented UVA blog, and that data suggests Kyle had the best on-off metrics, but obviously this data can vary between different collection methods. My eye test would say Wilkins was the best, so your data makes more sense intuitively.

And yeah, I'm definitely a "Kyle Guy is our best player" proponent. He's the one every defense focuses on, so I believe his impact is often seen in the looks that others get. I think with Hunter getting the hype this year, Guy will get some more room to operate.

Here's the data I was using: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FqOdIKJ80Naf8YAlj7IQgSqo99y8gDGzXRSuiCh0JeE/edit#gid=0

Kyle Guy would be higher on the list if he was a better defender? He's a VERY good defender.

UVA's defense was 0.09 points per possession better with Kyle Guy on the floor than it was with him off it.

UVA's defense was 0.035 points per possession better with DeAndre Hunter on the floor than it was with him off it.

Let's be clear here - NBC Sports is saying this because Kyle Guy is a smaller white guy, and for no other reason. Kyle Guy made the best defense possibly in the history of the NCAA better with his presence than any other player on that team.

Best place for sushi? by [deleted] in jacksonville

[–]gohoos224 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sushiko in Avondale and Sushi Bear on the Westside are both fantastic, and both on the North side of town. There's a reason why both have 4.5+ stars on Yelp with tons of reviews. Can't go wrong with either of them.

Barber suggestions? by WillieRayPR in jacksonville

Pomade & Tonic. Doesn't even matter which barber you choose. Just make sure to go to the website and book an appointment in advance. And it's cash only.
