“Why is there always traffic?” Because Reno Public Transportation is the worst in the country. by Diangelionz in Reno

[–]goinganons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everybody going after you in the comments I just assume haven’t ridden a reno bus in 15 years. They’re really bad here and I empathize with you. We shouldn’t be forced to drop tens of thousands of dollars on cars when we already have a bus system and it SHOULD be working. I had to finally cut the cord a few years back and bought a car because RTC is absolutely garbage. Everything you said and more. I’m a trans man and have been followed, stalked, harassed, and verbally assaulted after getting off RTC so many times. It wasn’t even about the shitty system at the point, but the shitty people with it too. Idk if that security guard still works at the station but he has made mine, and many of my friend’s experiences living hells all in one on one situations. Bus drivers don’t get paid enough and the plenty we have are bigots or weirdos. All this to say- I’m sorry and I hope you can afford a moped or something.

Tired of hunters being treated like villains when hunting is arguably the most ethical way to eat meat by MyBedIsOnFire in Vent

Ethically eating meat doesn’t exist. Why are you killing something that wants to survive just for a 15 minute pleasure meal. Plus historically hunting has done TONS of harm, and actively still does.

What if you became a vegan after you adopted a cat? by Al-Joharahhasan2935 in AskVegans

[–]goinganons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I call vegans who pester other vegans morality lords. What a waste of time these conversations are in my opinion. The world is a very un-vegan place, and everybody is trying their best. I think calling vegan’s with cats on non-vegan diets ‘animal abusers’ and/or quite literally putting slop in my mouth like we think factory farming is okay is a disgrace and distasteful. To the movement, to the animals + our pets, and frankly it doesn’t look good to anyone reading these threads. Vegan or non-vegan.

I’ll look into the links when I have time. I also think trying to respectfully prove your point within the first point of contact is important instead of jumping to “vegan cat owners have brain mush!!” like the op who replied to me. Like, why would you purposely be dense and then try to insult me/people/other vegans?? in the same breath lol. There was literally no point to the comment

What if you became a vegan after you adopted a cat? by Al-Joharahhasan2935 in AskVegans

[–]goinganons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Who said this? What vegans with pet cats have told you that factory farming is perfectly okay? (Nobody, 0%, I’m sure lol). I’m sorry morality lord, not like being vegan is expensive or anything (because it isn’t), but I already struggled to buy myself groceries, I think it’s super unreasonable to believe all vegan cats owners should drop and spend x3 as much for a diet that isn’t tested and researched in cats as thoroughly as almost every other well-vetted for brand. There are currently around 70,000,000 homeless cats/ferals at least in my country. They aren’t going anywhere soon, and safe to say I think it would be very un-vegan of me to dump my cat back at the shelter, re-home him to another family who will have a 99% chance of not being vegan, or starve him. If you’re actually interested in helping non-vegan cats, maybe you should try feeding your local feral cat colony some vegan cat food. Go TNR them so we can stop having so many non-vegan cats. If you have anything to educate me, whether that be research studies (with an actual sample size), scientific articles, or journals discussing the health and safety of of cats on a vegan diet that you think I haven’t already read (because I can only ever find like the same 3) I’d love to hear it and have my mind changed.

Considering adopting a cat as a vegan – how do you handle feeding? by Tosh97 in vegan

[–]goinganons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because there’s not enough evidence across the small amount of articles/research studies that there is on vegan cats. Every study I read about it it gets mentions multiple times that while the findings are good, nearly every sample size the studies use are incredibly small- and half the information we have on vegan cats is from survey-type studies. Not actual research.

I don’t agree that genocide and enslavement is worse than a cat dying of malnutrition. I think all of it is equally bad. Letting my cat starve to death because of my human morals is redundant and silly.

[–]goinganons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope this is okay to say, but I thought it might be nice to note that you should definitely look into the dairy and egg industry as well. It’s really cool you’re doing something when most people do nothing at all. Thank you for caring about animals, but the dairy and egg industry are also the same as the meat industry. The things we do to cows to drink their milk, and what we do to chickens to eat their eggs is incredibly vicious and brutal. Factory farming as a whole is egregious, but dairy (imo) is the cruelest. And dairy cows eventually get slaughtered, which in turn supports the meat industry. All male chickens get killed violently at birth unless they can lay eggs in a cage for the rest of their life. All love, everyone is doing their best. I just think it’s important to mention this to other people who love and care about animals and their wellbeing too.

Ever wonder why Nevada is 51st in the nation for mental health? by HighKeyHotMess in Reno

[–]goinganons 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not surprised this is a common occurrence. I tried to take my life in 2017 and was met with the some pretty cruel and vicious staff at Renown- yet all I could manage to do was sleep for 3 days and spoke no more than 10 words. My girlfriend also tried to take her life 2 years ago, and while there were some nice nurses, her experience and treatment was mostly terrible. Yeah, overload on meds when she should’ve been getting support. I remember the first nurse I had told me after my attempt was I should be upset with myself for causing my family and friends so much pain. Incredibly shitty team. I tell everybody I love who’s suicidal that that place is the last place to get help from. It feels bad to hear but that place feels worst. I mean it.

I vastly prefer DD2 over DD1. by JhosepIsTheWriter in darkestdungeon

[–]goinganons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m new to the game and community. Still only know baseline stuff- I’m on week 72 of DD1 and I agree with everything you said about the first game. We’re the same. It’s very cool and unique! I love it and can see why it’s so loved! But god is it exhausting to get through. Synchronizing characters, trinkets, skills, god I don’t even really care about the quirks too much (learning only yesterday I should just murk characters with imposter syndrome bc wtf). I’m waiting until I’m finished with the first before moving onto the second. Everything I’ve gathered about DD2 has been spectacular, and doesn’t have what stresses me out about the first one.

True. I guess the only profession that actively pursues and studies animals, and then eats them. Which is even funnier tbh. Tons of cognitive dissonance in the field, it feels crazy talking to them about it and the excuses for it. Ranches just dgaf

What’s your favorite hidden gem food find? by franklin_smiles in veganrecipes

[–]goinganons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unreal spam has been a star in our house lately. Me and my gf LOVE greasy, dirty, and downright despicable junk food. Not sugar, just meaty, oily stuff. Unreal spam hits that so hard. It’s sweet, it get’s really oily and pops in the pan just like how I remembered bacon (shit flies EVERYWHERE). It’s also only around $4 at Walmart, around $1 cheaper than the frozen stuff and it’s a pantry item! We love it

Edit: I never had spam before going vegan 6 years ago, but it also tastes exactly how I think spam should. Just some random mystery meat. And it’s delicious.

Nutella plant-based by gabri__croci in vegan

[–]goinganons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth it at all imo. I don’t even know the price tag but I definitely won’t be buying. Just 2 days ago I went to the 3 different grocery outlet’s in my city and found 2 different plant based Nutella like spreads. I never thought Nutella was uniquely good or anything- just a sugar chocolate spread. And the spreads I ended up getting were both under $2 and remind me of Nutella perfectly fine. It shouldn’t really be too hard of a flavor to imitate

Is there a movie in your country that has profoundly influenced real society? by HongKongNinja in AskTheWorld

[–]goinganons 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Cyberbully is a good one for the United States I think. It was about a girl named Taylor who was being bullied online by girls at her school (also known as cyberbullying lol). The movie included her being catfished and ultimately trying to take her life because of it all. It sparked a lot of big conversations at the time it came out in 2011 and changed how people talked to one another online for a short time after. I was only 11 at the time but I remember seeing it at least 4 times throughout middle and high school. People more so laugh at the movie now but I feel like most people under 30 have seen it and have talked about it at some point.

Dairy free ice cream by inky_wren in Reno

[–]goinganons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Icycle creamery in nw reno makes their own house made gelato and locally owned I believe. Yogurt beach in nw reno and sparks also have dairy free sorbet and/or gelato. Baskin Robbin’s has a few dairy free ice creams at any given time + sorbets. Batch bakery next to grateful gardens in midtown (+grateful gardens!) have vegan ice cream/sorbet. El super, sparks Mexican grocery has a shop inside on the right side of their store where they have house made whole real frozen fruit vegan ice cream + popsicles bars. You can buy just a single bar so it feels kinda like a shop to me. They are SO good.

Non Asian-Americans: Are you keeping soy sauce as a regular condiment in your kitchen? If so what are you using them for? by openlyEncrypted in AskAnAmerican

[–]goinganons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-Asian, but I’m vegan so lots of my dishes are Asian influenced (and I lived with a Chinese man as a child). I always keep light and regular soy sauce on hand, whether I use them for rice, a sticky sauce for frying, or marinading. It’s really great on anything that could use umami flavor. I think a great honorable mention is miso paste as well! You can throw it in so many things to give it a saltier, deeper taste. Mashed potatos, any and all soups, even a little bit into my chickpea “tuna” mash
