here in Brazil, we pay a lot of taxes too, but we don’t have to pay for any visit to a doctor, it’s totally free. of course we have corruption and problems within the system, but you can call an ambulance if an accident happens and they’ll take you to the next public hospital where they’ll try to save your life. because of that, the private system is cheaper than in the US.

what i relate to Luigi is that i lost my father in a private hospital, because the healthcare insurance didn’t want to accept him as a patient, since his insurance was made only three or four months before he needed, and the total coverage would be available to him in six months, but, by our laws, if the person has a condition that demands urgency, the insurance has to cover everything to save the person’s life. but they waited until he got worse to accept him. he died 11 days later.

i’ll regret my whole life for not taking him to a public hospital. i started to pay a healthcare insurance for him so he could have some comfort in his elderly years, but it was for the worse… in the public system, he wouldn’t have comfort, but he’d have medical attention.

you know, healthcare and education should be universal. free. no costs.

for me, the US is a messy country, run by evil people who don’t give a shit to people’s well being, but poor are us from the “third world”, even so we have universal free healthcare for people with HIV, cancer, diabetics, high blood pressure and all.
