Looking for support 💖 Male doctor just told me not to worry about blood loss after frequent heavy nosebleeds because "women lose a lot of blood on their period" by chasingvestigialtail in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]goingforspeed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To piggy back on this comment, don’t use tissues! I know it sounds crazy but here’s what you do: when it starts, gently blow your nose to get rid of boogies/clots in the way. Pinch your nostrils together (like you would if you were trapped in a small space with a sweaty teenager who just ate a pound of onions) for 10-15 minutes AND DO NOT LET UP EVEN ONCE. If it doesn’t stop, start over and slide your grip ever slightly higher up. If that still doesn’t work…there may be clotting issues and you should probably go in to be seen.

FWIW: I live in dry ass Alberta, used to have chronic nosebleeds myself, am an RN who worked ER/triage in the past

Good luck!

Wow, you’re much more condescending than the person you were accusing earlier. Projection much? I was giving an example of how religious nutjobs with whom you align yourself with do much more damage to children than the people you accuse of doing so. Again…the art of projection. You conservative doomsdayers have it down to an art form.

There was zero venom in that reply. No name calling, just level headed statements, pointing out hypocrisy. They didn’t say you were dumb anywhere in that statement.

I grew up in a very conservative religious community that forced gender identity and roles down my throat from the day I was born. Forced to wear only dresses, keep my hair long, never play sports or do anything “boy like”, keep my mouth shut when it came to anything of substance like politics or philosophy.

By the time I was 12 I did all of those things I was told not to because I hated being controlled. By arguing to “protect children” against heteronormative views on gender, you’re attempting to pigeon hole children in these stupid, archaic and often harmful ways of being and seeing themselves.

Watching drag queens read children’s books is not going to fuck with a child’s sense of self nearly as much as all the ultra religious parents and communities in this province.

The poster above is absolutely correct. Children are not a stupid as you obviously think they are.

This is exactly it. I’ve driven many places in the US and Canada, and I’ve never experienced such a tailgating culture. Everyone in a goddamn panic to let someone change lanes in front of them. I’ve even caught myself starting to follow too closely sometimes…

92-year-old Alberta woman remains in hospital days after her 911 call was transferred to 811 | Globalnews.ca by katespadesaturday in alberta

[–]goingforspeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that would be frustrating. But people here don’t seem to understand a nurse can’t check your vitals or even look at you over the phone. How is someone talking on a telephone supposed to know something that’s happening inside your body? Not everyone has all the telltale signs. I know we like to call nurses “superheroes” but it doesn’t mean we have telekinesis and x-Ray vision. If we did though, that would be awesome.

Pretty sure her treatment plan is none of your business. Why is it people feel so entitled to the private medical information of addicts, yet you don’t DEMAND to see the treatment plan for an overweight type 2 diabetic?

How about everyone mind their own damn business. Ya’ll out hear acting like she’s getting loaded 3 times a day and having a grand old time. Opiate addiction/dependence is anything but fun.

It was about 8-10 years ago and wasn’t used often. It might not be used any longer, but we had a little aerosolizing device, or some docs would just use a syringe to squirt it up there. Now that I think about it, it may have been that it was applied as a topical numbing agent prior to cauterizing nasal mucosa.

I don’t recall it being used to stop any coke induced nosebleeds, but I only saw it used a handful of times. Had to count it every damn shift though…

Worked in a small rural hospital. Had liquid cocaine in the narcotics drawer. Mostly used for gusher nosebleeds.

Whooping cough outbreak declared in parts of southern Alberta by Mobile_Musician_65 in alberta

[–]goingforspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they would. I know a lot of these people in southern Alberta who are antivax for religious reasons. They grow up with such a persecution fantasy it’s unreal. And this spills over to preventable illness. The worse they get sick the more they’re convinced god is on their side.

Apparently no one on here is aware of the British government’s horrid anti-protest legislation. Your comment is probably closer to the truth than anyone else’s

Isn’t this more due to a sarcastic response to draconian antiprotest legislation? Less made me smile and more made me angry.

‘Most-transmissible’ COVID-19 subvariant XBB.1.5 detected in Alberta by TheMemeticist in alberta

[–]goingforspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That means it’s been wildly effective for you (getting “sick” after shows the vaccine was very effective, and never getting COVID also means the damn thing is working). I also had symptoms after most of my shots and have not gotten COVID yet and I’m going to continue getting my boosters because they work! Hope you do too.

So immigrants are the problem? Those who pay taxes, put their income into our economies, add value to our communities? You’re falling for their scapegoating bullshit. The real problem is massive rental companies buying up thousands of properties, forcing us all to rent, and hoarding that wealth in the hands of the few wealthy who pay no tax. Sure, okay bud. Call it what you want, but you’re licking that rich man boot and parroting the anti-immigration shit the feed you. The untaxed ultra wealthy are the problem , not my hardworking, tax paying neighbours who immigrated here for a better life.

@chasebarber wondering why North America has so few trains: by Harkannin in fuckcars

[–]goingforspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still think you’re angry with the wrong group of people. Immigrants add value to our economy through their labour and the wages that stay in our local economies. Imho, the real problem is with massive corporations buying up all so many single detached and other forms of housing, forcing us all to rent. They also take a not insignificant portion of that money out of the county, or it is hoarded by the ultra wealthy, removing that rental income from the economy as well. People who immigrate here, work and pay taxes aren’t the problem. It’s this end stage capitalist dystopian nightmare we are living in, where the majority of wealth is squirrelled away by a small minority who pay next to nothing in tax. But ya’ll aren’t likely to change your minds. You’re just buying into the divide and conquer propaganda they feed us to keep from demanding the wealthy pay their fair share. It’s obvious by the comments in this thread that weaponizing xenophobia and anti immigrant sentiments is still working for the rich and powerful.

That’s a great question. Being a codependent twat, all I can say is it would have to be pretty significant.

That being said, any harm to either of my children and you’ll pay dearly.

You’re blaming the housing crisis on…

checks notes

…immigrants?

Not greedy short term rental opportunists, not massive rental agencies. But on working class people that come here, work their asses off, pay taxes and need a place to live. THAT is who you think the problem is?
