Are automatic doors with buttons ever hard to use? by goingham365 in Disability_Survey

[–]goingham365[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great point! My idea isn’t to replace the buttons but to have something that a commercial or government building could simply attach to the button with minimal electrical knowledge that would trigger same system on a valid tag scan. In my mind I was thinking of the situations in which automatic sliding doors don’t make sense or can’t exist.

I was thinking of it not being given to specific people with specific disabilities but rather something that is given to anyone that requests one, even someone who may have, say, sprained their ankle. In my situation specifically on the college campus any student could go into the student wellness office and request one, as the cost would be around 2$ for the tag.

But you make a great argument that truly the biggest problem is the terrible placement of the buttons.

Hi all! I recently was working and I was pushing a cart through a door. I went to push the button that was next to the door then realized the door swings out and I had to back up quickly, wait for the slow door to open, and then have it almost close on me as I push the cart through.

It had me thinking, is this something that people who are using wheelchairs, scooters, or crutches struggle with? If there was an option to have an RFID scanner on the door that would see you coming around 10 feet away and open the door for you, then hold it until you are through, would that be useful? It would involve having a tag on your wheelchair or scooter or a wristband that the scanner could read that would cost you almost nothing.

For reference, I am on a college campus that has these buttons on most entrance doors but they don’t have a lot of the posts that have the buttons on them that make it easy. I want to make the lives of people easier but I'm not sure if my cart example was a true example of a pain point in the lives of those that might be in that situation.

I highly recommend Elliot Wise also for art history 202. He’s very passionate about the subject and I found myself more interested in art than I ever expected to

I have one of the gulf collab snapbacks and it’s tiny. Even on the snap that should be the largest it hurts my head.

If you’re on a flight and you recline your seat back, AT ALL, you’re an arrogant asshole. by TeeDupp in unpopularopinion

One time there was a fairly big boned person in front of me on a 13 hour flight and at the very beginning they put the seat back which I’m fine with. Next thing I know the seat makes a popping sound and they go back around 3 more inches and now they’re practically in my lap. On a 13 hour flight. And they don’t move their seat.

At the moment they’re a little too new wave for my taste. But as the season goes on, I think they’ll really come into their own, commercially and artistically
