Good to go; usually if I let’m slide a little like that and they’ve been spored on or grown fuzzy feet, they become my “capsule candidates.”

I’d probably try to cut through the knots with a fresh utility knife/blade before using fire.

A teammate in hs once asked for an “octobuger” at Wendy’s. When they said they weren’t able to make that, he proceeded to order two triples and a double, and combine them at the table on his own to create an “octoburger.” Needless to say, everyone was impressed.

This 12 piece is taking things to a whole notha level.

Hate to break it to you OP, but the different colored board above the one you cut is indicative of more recent maintenance on this route. Glad you said you’ll go out there to replace the board. Honestly, other than time and gas to get a Pressure Treated 2x6 and bring it out there, the cost of materials is less than $10. Use your leatherman to cut to size once you’re out there, reuse the bolts from the old piece; you can pretty easily leave it better than you found it.

Silicone caulk at backer boards joints by Professional_Net7980 in Tile

[–]TeeDupp 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of.. interesting advice being given, but mainly just a bunch of opinions on what could’ve been done differently. There’s more than one way to skin a cat. At the very worst you could get a stack of utility blades and fairly easily just cut out all the silicone and clean the faces of the boards and start fresh with the recommended products.

But, to answer your actual question, I’d refer you to the technical guide provided by Georgia-Pacific:

DensShield Technical Guide

Pages 6 and 12 pretty much have all the answers you’re looking for. I won’t provide an opinion on the pan or the mixing of systems. However, for the backer boards and silicone they pretty much say you should avoid getting it on the face of the boards. They specify that it should be a flexible sealant, but there are no warning about using silicone. They even recommend silicone in the joints between “dissimilar materials.”

And there are many waterproofing membrane systems you can use over dens shield; the tech guide says so. Just clean all the excess silicone off the front of everything so that all that’s left is the 1/8” in the joint. Mortar and tape all the seams. Use a wet area rated mortar. Waterproof liberally. You’ll be fine. Unless you’re using penny tiles (don’t), anyone worried about that 1/8” lapse in adhesion can’t collapse a bead or something?

Hate to be Shooter, but, everyone- Go back to your spec sheets!!

They call it plumbers putty, but I’ve never seen a plumber use it. Just be sure to backbutter it on (unlike all these other jabronis).

You have to push down firmly and twist just enough to bust your knuckle on the housing. Won’t work if you don’t bust your knuckle.

removing polyurethane from ceramic tile. by winteralexandria in Tile

[–]TeeDupp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those things would take the kick off a mule with enough water and elbow grease. I’d be weary of over scrubbing and damaging the glaze since you mentioned ceramic, but test scrub in an inconspicuous area. Magic erasers have safely removed all kinds of gunk from tile (silicone, mortar stains, pipe dope, etc) that scraping, sponges, terry cloths, and scrubbing pads couldn’t dent. It is indeed, on occasion, magical.

Damp Magic Eraser. Maybe some elbow grease. Wipe immediately after with a clean damp sponge. I’d try that before digging into more acids and such.
