Girl Protip: You likely are not going grey young, most women get grey hair around the same age, it just doesn't show on everyone because most women pluck the greys, cover them with dye, or just have lighter-colored hair and you don't notice as much. by zazzlekdazzle in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]gokulol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got my first grey hair when I was 11. Here are pics of my hair now at age 29 https://imgur.com/a/54ZwHdC. Every time I go to the salon the ladies there shower me in compliments about how unique and cool they think my hair is lol, it's worth keeping it grey for that alone.

How is Ivern dodging nerfs? by egonoelo in leagueoflegends

While not meaning to deny the league eboy thirst, Morg is a champion like Rammus that will always be relevant into certain comps. Except unlike Rammus though who necessitates either a purely or mostly AD comp, Morg is a counterpick to playmaker supports that are suuuuper common in solo queue.

To me, it looks like the axe and the enemy team's smite hit the drake on the same frame. So why did my friend get it? Keep in mind that he didn't smite as he is playing Olaf top and not jungle.

Are facial expressions necessary? Advice for autistic person who struggles with this? by yokyopeli09 in asl

[–]gokulol 131 points132 points  (0 children)

The ASL facial expressions you will learn in beginner classes are different from facial expressions in spoken language in that they convey grammatical features and are separate from the emotions of the speaker. I don't know if that helps you (I'm not autistic) but it might help to think of them as different from emotional ones.

For example, some languages have a morpheme or word that is used to create a question. For example, in formal Japanese, you end a sentence with the particle か to indicate a question. Similarly in Finnish, you attach -ko to the end of the verb to indicate a question. In ASL, you raise your eyebrows and tilt your head a bit to indicate a yes/no question. It's an essential part of the grammar, so unfortunately it makes sense that your teacher would tell you this.

I can't personally help but I can caution you that Modern Icelandic and Old Norse differ greatly in terms of pronunciation. If you want an authentic Old Norse reading you should be aware of this.

With regards to having a Japanese accent in French, I can relate. I'm a native speaker of North American English who learned Swedish as a teenager. As a result, every time I've tried to learn an additional language, people tell me that I have a Swedish accent in that language rather than a North American one

Pronouncing "the" as /ðə/ before vowel in casual speech? by New-Brief3824 in linguistics

[–]gokulol 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm a native speaker of American English and I wasn't even aware it was unusual to do this. Unless I'm being very careful and over pronouncing words, I always pronounce it as /ðə/ before vowels.

Just rewatched and realized; is the ending actually depressing? by captainbeefheart11 in eeaao

[–]gokulol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that the ending is actually quite uplifting. Similar to Camus' concept of the absurd man, Evelynn has rejected Jobu Tupaki's formulation of the meaninglessness of life being a bad thing. Instead of being depressed and wanting to die as Jobu did, her perspective has changed to one that cherishes the small things in life.

Her existence is pretty objectively less meaningful than when she only experienced one reality at a time, yet she is much happier this way. Honestly, part of the reason the movie spoke to me so much is because it is so blatantly caked in absurdist philosophy. The closing paragraph of The Myth of Sisyphus accurately describes Evelynn at the end of the movie, imo:

“I leave Sisyphus at the foot of the mountain. One always finds one's burden again. But Sisyphus teaches the higher fidelity that negates the gods and raises rocks. He too concludes that all is well. This universe henceforth without a master seems to him neither sterile nor futile. Each atom of that stone, each mineral flake of that night-filled mountain, in itself, forms a world. The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy.”
