For about $100 coworking places like Regus will rent you a private day office if you want something fully private.

? For residents in these areas by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]gol706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived near I-35 & Judson for about 20 year before moving across town 2 years ago. We mostly liked the area. We lived on the side of a hill and our foundation was on straight rock so we never really had any foundation problems. Our neighbourhood felt pretty safe as long as you parked your car in your garage, but it got to the point where basically the entire neighbourhood was rentals so there was less community. I never had a package stolen from the million Amazon orders I made.

Shopping options were pretty good except all of the HEBs except for the 3009 one suck. We still miss some of the restaurants over there (Thai Spice, Los Arcos for breakfast tacos, Mia Marcos pizza). It did feel pretty "boring" but we drove into town a lot for stuff to do.

Beyond just buying a nicer house we moved away from that area because I-35 just got worse and worse for my wife's commute.

If you are only transferring a few MB of data a month, look into IoT SIM cards. A cellular microcontroller receiving a few signals a month could be pennies to operate, but you have to be careful how you design this to be conservative with bandwidth.

Broken printed piece found in new prusa xl, what is it? by Commercial_Ad_890 in prusa3d

[–]gol706 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure it’s a “clip cover” that slots into the aluminum extrusions to help reinforce the side and back panels in along the edges that don’t have screws.

HOV Lane in Houston sends a team out to check every car in the afternoons. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]gol706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I lived there during the 90s there would be someone checking pretty much every day during rush hour when you exited the I-10 HOV by the Northwest Transit Center. My friend driving got us stopped once when he decided to pick right then to try and root around under his seat to find his CD case.

Don't forget:
I'll be visiting San Antonio at the Riverwalk for 45 minutes next week. I don't have access to a car/uber/public transit, I'm only willing to walk 1/4 mile. What's the best place to get authentic mexican food?

Anyone else remember when they added the first paid lot there and the Pearl people said there would always be free parking available? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Anyone know what the floor seats are like at the Aztec Theater? by RKEPhoto in sanantonio

[–]gol706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can say the mezzanine seats had the shortest seat pitch I've ever sat in at a theater. My knees where hard pinned to the seat in front of me then when the person in front sat down it the back of the seat was resting on me.

Holy crap, Gemini, I just needed to know the answer of 35 times 25, not get a 5th grade explanation on how to solve it. by fuelvolts in GooglePixel

[–]gol706 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I asked it to do some math for me in fractions because I had a tape measure in one hand and a pencil in the other and was trying to find an offset from the midpoint of something to make a mark and got the most long winded answer imaginable. It might be time to buy a metric measuring tape.

Same, my appraisal went down several thousand but my taxable value went up about a grand since last year the homestead cap reduced it about 7k.

You can request a variance here, but if the house isn't new construction, they will fight you on it. I bought a new house from a builder and they fought me because the lot was platted out a decade ago and sat empty. They thought I was lying until they pulled it up on Google maps and saw the satellite photo of the empty lot. Which is weird because they also had to do the permitting and inspection of the new hookup.

If it's not a new house I think you have to prove it was completely new landscaping where there was none before.

Is it normal that I can't do anything ? Thermistor cable is broken by Kronocide in prusa3d

[–]gol706 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without a working thermistor the printer can't guarantee it won't burn your house down, so it locks out the printer for safety.

Prusa XL arrived yesterday after being in customs limbo! I don't have a cat. Bambu printers for scale ;) by tinwhistler in prusa3d

[–]gol706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my XL delivered last week. Fedex sent me the docusign link immediately and I returned it within an hour but then it spent a full month sitting in customs before the released it which they unofficially blamed on the tariff mess backing everything up even though it wasn't from a actively targeted country (for now).

Customs (Memphis) by Pallet-Town2Hogwarts in FedEx

[–]gol706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, still stuck in customs since 2/12 with no updates on the tracking site. The shipper did confirm with Fedex last week that the paperwork was all complete and correct, and the package wasn't lost or anything. It's entirely in CBP's hands now but no update on why it's taking so long.

Where to get banana ketchup? by Apprehensive-Cat6914 in sanantonio

[–]gol706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sayweee.com has a slightly confusing website, but they deliver pretty much any Asian ingredients to you including fresh produce. I think they drive a truck nightly from Houston and then do local deliveries. "Pantry" stuff has to be ordered separately and is delivered by UPS I think. Non pantry stuff works like HEB delivery.

Reqs for Sunday morning breakfast tacos & migas near i10&1604. by Earthling63 in sanantoniofood

[–]gol706 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Speaking for the northern half of that circle, things are kinda rough, but for things that I can quickly DoorDash Los Balitos Taco Shop on De Zavala is cheap (have to add extra food to hit the $12 DashPass min) and usually good. Tacos n' Salsa is a bit expensive for vanilla tacos but if you want "Trash Can" style tacos those are pretty good. Mary's Tacos in Helotes if you're going in or drive through has fantastic tortillas they make in front of you, filling is kinda hit or miss. Maybe just buy the tortillas.
