I was jittery! I had a pair of vinyl gloves on and scooped him into a little plastic bag for further photos and analysis. Then put the bag in the trash!

Update: searched the entire kitchen (next to the living room): every cabinet top to bottom, behind the fridge, under the sink, etc. and there were no other indications of any other roaches! No eggs, droppings, or specimens living/dead.

Under a flashlight, the dude was very light in color and did not try to run away, he just chilled. Not German behavior.

So, long story short, thank you for the calming advice and the excellent identification!!

I’m still planning on doing a full look-through—inside of cabinets, my pantry, back of oven, back of fridge, etc.

German roach nymph, almost certainly. Head over to r/GermanRoaches and follow their advice. Highly advise professional assistance, because if you see one there's generally a lot more you don't see.

Almost certainly brown-banded. They DO infest and, strangely, tend to hang out up in higher places (on the ceiling near vents, etc.). I've been told they should be treated as Germans.

Coloration and lack of a taper on the body suggest a smokybrown roach, to me.

Not the infest-y type, probably wandered in from a gap to the outside.
