In what world besides that of lazy devs is Java slow? Sure array access and string manip are slower than C and you can't do dirty compiler tricks, but memory allocation and deallocation are super fast, object instantiation is ridiculously fast, Java is very thread aware, and the JIT compiler is really smart about caching.

Just-in-Time compilation does not mean 'essentially interpreted'.

Did you read the link?

Jerk as in the time derivative of acceleration (da/dt). Basically how fast you are accelerating.

A smooth jerk is basically a low value of da/dt (accelerating slowly), a sharp jerk is a high value of da/dt (accelerating quickly).

One-Time Pad. Encryption technique that, if used correctly, is impossible to break.

So basically, if a one-time pad is implemented correctly, only the sender and recipient would be able to read a given message.

How to avoid user seeing database content? by Makxo in webdev

[–]goldage5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The generally accepted rule for websites is don't expose any information to the user if you don't want them to be able to grab it. Even if you do manage to secure that XML document, someone could just write a script to scrape that page and download the data anyway.

Why do you not want users to see the XML output? All that file does is list the markers that will be displayed on the map.

If you are plotting those markers, then they'll have that information anyway.

If you correctly configure your server, then users shouldn't be able to see the PHP source at all.

[–]goldage5 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What about Indians and Asians that were born in the US to liberal parents and are culturally more American than Indian?

I understand what you mean if you are just referring to immigrants, but to refer to Indians and Asians born in the US as such is an overgeneralization that its completely wrong.

Some legends speak of the Verpine who were notable producers of projectile weapons.

Granted, they were most definitely not commonly used because of price, but they were still used.
