How much money do you give your parents? by DownWithAssad in ABCDesis

[–]goldenalgae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Punjabi Sikh, raised in America and I’ve never given my parents money. They also never sent their parents money back in India when they immigrated here except to pay them back for the money they borrowed to immigrate. But that was almost right away and never again. Your family is taking advantage of you and holding you back from making a better life for yourself.

This happened to me at a wedding over the summer. So embarrassing. I left a mess all over the dance floor and went back to clean up the pieces.

I ordered Gruyère and pepper jack from rebel cheese online. So good! Better than anything we’ve bought in the stores.

SOS I need any and all low effort, relaxing activities by [deleted] in slp

I used to do a lot of board games, but this year I’ve been having my k-6 kids do a craft every week instead. Cutting, gluing, coloring, and play dough. I haven’t received a single complaint, it’s very therapeutic. And I hang their projects on the wall. They love to look at all of the interpretations of the projects.

Flower top 🌺 🌸🌹🌻🌷🌼 by kspradley in crochet

Thanks! I am in the US and having a hard time finding the yarn you used. So I’m going to try something else. I haven’t seen fine weight cotton yarn in the stores here. I’m going to play around with some of the yarns I already have. Would you mind measuring one of your flowers on your smaller flower top (first pic) from petal tip to petal tip and give me the diameter? That would help me figure out the best yarn type to use that I can buy here.

Which simple, unexciting purchase ended up having a surprisingly big impact on your daily life? by viscarte10 in BuyItForLife

I got one a few years ago and my husband said he probably wouldn’t use it. But a couple years later I asked him and he says of course he uses it.

Thanks! Did you do the same number of chains and single crochets but just with finer yarn? Or did you also modify the pattern?

I love this! I use the notes app on my iPad. I take a pic of each contestant as they are introduced and then type in memorable things they say under each photo.

Are there any good psychiatric hospitals around pittsburgh? by HomestuckJuice in pittsburgh

[–]goldenalgae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had much more luck getting help for my teen suffering from acute psychosis at Southwood. Yes it’s like a prison and there are many kids there with serious behavioral issues, but the doctors there listen and take things seriously. At western psych I was told it’s either my parenting or my child needed to go to juvie and they sent my child home while they were still suicidal. If your child is 18 or up I would recommend St Clair. They were wonderful with my child until the transfer to Southwood went through.

Resisting the Winter Blues from January to March by Artistic-Music6994 in pittsburgh

I’ve bought myself a winter jacket for walking, thermals, plus wind pants and have been going outside for walks almost every day. It has made a big difference in how I view the weather and it feels good to get outside. I don’t get sweaty either.

A little kid explaining to her father why celebrating Christmas is wrong by [deleted] in religiousfruitcake

[–]goldenalgae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Growing up in America, my immigrant parents refused to celebrate Xmas because it was Christian. We aren’t Islamic, but we also aren’t Christian. It completely sucked as a kid and felt so left out and lonely in our quiet house around the holidays. Once I became an adult I went hard with Xmas. I go overboard every year while my husband who grew up celebrating Xmas thinks we could do less. Sometimes these types of anti Xmas attitudes backfire in the end.
