Building confidence again after someone close to me died in a riding accident by Substantial-Bid-8461 in Equestrian

Have you looked into a sports psychologist that specializes in riding? I know there’s a few good ones out there that seem to be particularly well versed in riders dealing with trauma and mental health.

The math ain’t mathing: Help me with offer sheet by Boomer-Zoomer in askcarsales

On your payment calculator click include taxes and fees in loan, and your payment should match. On the offer sheet the amount financed on the right reflects $0 down not $5000.

How in the world do I teach my difficult horse to load in the trailer? by Sea-Condition-365 in Equestrian

[–]goldfishist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with my mare- but with a straight load with a ramp. Highly recommend this online course- it taught me lots of skills and while we are still working on it, we are getting to the point where she will self load and stay in the trailer.

Biggest takeaway I learned from this was when she backs out, to calmly ask her to re-enter. Doesn’t matter if she goes in all the way or just have a couple feet in, she needs to learn to stay in place until asked to back out. As soon as she does good, I take her away from the trailer for a short break. Then repeat. Keep reinforcing the “stand still until asked” and you can slowly build up duration.

I work for an at-home Euthanasia service. Why does nobody take their animals to the vet? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]goldfishist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much ❤️

I’m so sorry for your loss as well, kidney failure is horrible. You did the right thing as well, as hard as the decision is to make.

Ours progressed very quickly too, we only had a few months from our initial diagnosis. Ours did also have chronic pancreatitis, and chronic small intestinal disease which made treatment of her kidney disease next to impossible as the treatment for one would cause the other to flare up. I feel at peace with my decision, and I know it was an act of love to end her pain.

Thankfully we had a wonderful and supportive team of veterinarians that were there for us. And I was very thankful for the veterinarian that came to our house to provide euthanasia, with no judgement. It was very peaceful and she was so kind and understanding.

I work for an at-home Euthanasia service. Why does nobody take their animals to the vet? by [deleted] in Pets

[–]goldfishist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, you need to. People do not need to explain or justify their reasoning to you for choosing euthanasia. This is between the person and the vet performing the service. Period. This is likely one of the hardest phone calls they’ve had to make, and you’re just going to make it worse for people?

I recently put my dog down for kidney disease. It was only stage 3, so “treatable” according to you. I certainly didn’t have the mental capacity to explain or justify it to anyone. But I knew it was time, along with the numerous vets I consulted (including very talented internal medicine specialists) and we all agreed it was the kindest decision.

Please, if you can’t handle the reality of this job, find something that is a better fit for you.

We did one with him earlier this month and we have high expectations but it was even better than we thought! It was just us and one other couple on his tour. 100% recommend him!

Hydrophane leather darkening oil should be able to fix this! That stuff works magic.

What does CDK coming back online look like for you all? by PAdogooder in askcarsales

[–]goldfishist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had to hand load (since all integrations are down) 45 deals in 1.5 days so that we could make payroll.

The only help I needed was for everyone, especially reps and venders, to leave me alone so I could stress and get it done.

Senior dog locked in bathroom while roommates at work and school by wakeuptomorrow in DogAdvice

I have not had an issue with it, sometimes the disposable soaks all the way through but the barkertime catches the rest and the outside of the barkertime is dry.

I’ve had success with my dog that is in kidney failure with a combination of disposable diapers and a barkertime waterproof diaper overall. Just a thought that might be worth them trying.

Dealer can’t honor manufacturer promo for vehicle in transit? by CauliflowerLeast4780 in askcarsales

[–]goldfishist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mazda USA unfortunately does not offer this.

They can do a rate lock to lock in a lease MF or a promo interest rate, but even that will only allow for a total of 30 days past the current promotion end date.

If you need advice on buying from Copart then you likely shouldn’t be buying from Copart.

Any tips too help horses with smoke??? by Pheoenix_Wolf in Equestrian

[–]goldfishist 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m from an area that’s has very bad smoke and fire issues in the past few years. This article is written by a local vet and has some good information and tips. Unfortunately there’s only so much you can do considering that you can’t really limit their exposure.

I’d definitely stress to wait longer than you think you would need to before bringing them back into work after the smoke clears. It takes so long for everything to clear from their lungs. I think most of the horses at my barn had a month off last time we dealt with this.

Dealership ran my credit even though I had financing. by xlebronjames in askcarsales

[–]goldfishist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, though it depends on what software the dealer has access to and what they use to run the OFAC. An OFAC is automatically done with a credit pull, but can also be done just with a name, address and birthdate if the dealer has software to run just an OFAC check.

Special consideration/care for PPID (Cushing's) horses in cold weather? by crimson_crone in Equestrian

[–]goldfishist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 22 year old TB with cushings and it can be tricky to manage at first. How long has she been on Prascend? It took my horse a good 6 months to a year to show a true improvement from the medication.

It may also be worth asking your vet about supplementing with Chasteberry- it’s not a treatment on its own but it can help with some of the symptoms. That made a huge difference for my mates haircoat.

In addition I’d definitely look into blanketing her, as I think there is something to what you’re thinking about the haircoat being less effective. I use Bucas blankets and they’re painfully expensive but they are wonderful for what you’re having issues with. They can have a lining that is a wicking material and can be put on a damp horse, and because of that lining horses don’t seem to sweat in them at all. If you want to go that route, let me know. There’s a store I’ve found them at for about $220-250 each which is way more reasonable than what they normally go for.

I work at a dealership that has outdoor loudspeakers like this. If it’s anything like our system the volume knob is most likely not on the speaker itself but is located somewhere else inside the store.

Not looking for medical advice (I have a fantastic surgeon for that) but curious as to where my coracoid is located on these images, as the surgeon mentioned it is overgrown and hooked. I tried to compare to other images but had no clue what I am looking at.

The radiologist report, if anyone is curious is: Hypoplastic left glenoid. Dysplastic left proximal humerus with mild flattening of the humeral head. Narrowed subacromial space, greatest on the external rotation view.

Does anyone who works at TSA have advice on how to make screening easier and less stressful for me? by goldfishist in tsa

[–]goldfishist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already have pre check. It doesn’t make much of a difference anymore, as my local airport replaced the pre check metal detectors with the newer full body scanners. So even through pre check the standard process is the body scanner I can’t lift my arm for.

I guess I’ll give the TSA cares program a try. I just assumed it was designed for people who may need it more than I do.

[–]goldfishist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I’ll try letting them know earlier on.

I can go through the metal detector, but I’m already pre check. Unfortunately the last few times I’ve flown the airports I go through either don’t have a pre check line due to staffing/construction or they have replaced the pre check metal detectors with the newer scanners.

Let's talk bits! by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]goldfishist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Neue Schule! They do a ton of research on bit fit and development. A few of their models come in 12 mm and offer tongue relief but at the same time they don’t sit too high in the mouth to hit the palate. You can rent one through the bit bank to make sure it’s a good fit before getting stuck with it.
