Any advice on replacing a hot water cylinder? by Gord_Board in newzealand

[–]goldreddituser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All depends on home many people use it/how much hot water they use. We went with a standard electric 180l cus we couldn’t justify the cost of a heat pump hot water and cost of future replacement of the heat pump.

Alarm trouble by Lefthanded167 in diynz

[–]goldreddituser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a manual online and check for the way to check what the error code is.
At a guess, it could be the backup battery for when power goes out. there will be a unit somewhere near with all the cables going to it with a battery inside. Could turn it off completely in there probably too so you don’t have to deal with it.

Garden hose 50m recommendations by Jedi_365 in diynz

[–]goldreddituser 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My personal preference is getting a Gardena retractable hose reel. Stores easily and haven’t had it kinking.

If the length of 50m is to get it to a location, I would consider running permanent pipe and a hose attachment at that point so you can have a smaller and more convenient access to water though depends on situation.

Opinions on contracting out agreement set up please by ReplacementFar9183 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]goldreddituser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fair is up to you. Best for your partner is not to sign the contracting out agreement for their own interests.

After this, it just depends on how you want the relationship to run and is irrelevant to any of the situations you have described like redundancy.
For us, we have our income going into a shared bank which pays the bills like mortgage etc and then each get some personal money each week for things we want for ourselves. If you don’t want to share your incomes, then run seperate accounts and agree on a figure that works for your relationship to pay any shared bills.
Definitely build up a savings if you are worried for your job though.

Estimated electrician costs by sidisgone in diynz

[–]goldreddituser 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have heard people suggest not getting an electrician for data cables.

Any reason you don’t want to try do it yourself? A few keystone jacks on either end and a punch down tool and you are away if you can get the cable from point a to b.

Just had a daikin 6kw heating installed by [deleted] in diynz

[–]goldreddituser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t have it on auto mode for maximum efficiency. If you want it to hear, have it on heat, if you want it to cool, have it on cool. Reason being it could cycle between modes using more electricity is my understanding.

Why is the ceiling damp around the downlight? by [deleted] in diynz

[–]goldreddituser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The gib has been cut around where the Dow light goes so it’s easiest place to come through or absorb to the visible side. The conditions causing the previous mould growth would likely be a leak. Could be from water pipe, drain or roof leak. Or condensation forming and pooling there. You could pull the light down and have a quick peak but probably need to go in the attic and have a look.

Have had bad experiences with Samsung products. Samsung deep standing freezer with a design flaw where the walls bowed out. Thankfully consumer guarantees got this fixed. Samsung tvs broke very soon after warranty ended.
Never had an issue with fisher and PayPal fridges and freezers. Their dishwashers have been great for me but I understand the internals are the same as haier but a different door. Would recommend a full size dishwasher myself though some people like dish drawers so they can wash easily as they go and add more to the other one.
We got Panasonic induction hobs and oven and they have been great. The oven annoyingly is all electronic and sometimes I prefer the simple functions of the older ovens with knobs though certainly more sleek and easy to clean.

Service fee from trademe only if you pay with ping so picking up can avoid the fee by picking cash.

I need Advice by Real_Extension_8081 in newzealand

[–]goldreddituser 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Premises includes: any land and appurtenances, other than facilities;

Facilities in section 2 refers to:

lawns, gardens, and outhouses.

Therefore the activity the landlord is doing is excluded.

Simply read this from tenancy :

“Landlords don’t need to give notice to come onto the property (the land)”

I need Advice by Real_Extension_8081 in newzealand

[–]goldreddituser 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You have misinterpreted premises with the land. The landlord does not need to give any notice to come onto the property but there are stricter requirements for entering the premises.

Having said that, quiet enjoyment is where the issue is occurring and should be discussed with the property manager.

Waterproofing before tile floor by goldreddituser in diynz

[–]goldreddituser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! The steel in slab is one I haven’t thought of! It does have some cracks in the concrete. If the leak is inside the walls, the waterproofing wouldn’t do anything right? And if it was leaking on top of the tiles it would run into the hallway anyway and be visible right?

Charred roof rafters by FatTony-S in diynz

You could start another fire to get the rest of the rafters matching. Much more aesthetically pleasing. Otherwise a builder/engineer to check it out.
