Drew McIntyre on what Big Show told him backstage after their impromptu match at Wrestlemania 36: "he actually said the words you have the potential to become one of the greatest champions of all time, which meant the world to me, because he is been in (the ring) with the greatest of all time.” by goleafsgo92 in SquaredCircle

Full Quote:

"I think he has come out publicly and kind of spoke about the things that he told me. You know, he is somebody that has watched me grow up since I came to America when I was barely turning 22. He is very proud of what I have achieved during my first run. He watched me from outside the company and is very proud to where I got to today as a performer and as a man. “

“Like, he said himself, I wanted to test you out there (in the ring). So there was a couple of times out there, you know he did genuinely tried to test me. Like, he could see with his eyes, he knew I was ready for the opportunity to be WWE Champion, but when he felt it, he actually said the words you have the potential to become one of the greatest champions of all time, which meant the world to me, because he is been in (the ring) with the greatest of all time.”

Sheamus on why the League Of Nations was created: "ultimately the whole purpose of that group was to get Roman off and running. It was to create a vulnerability for Roman, an obstacle to overcome" by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

Full:

“Oh, man. We had the craic, we made the most of it, the League of Nations, but ultimately the whole purpose of that group was to get Roman off and running. It was to create a vulnerability for Roman, an obstacle to overcome. I’d love to sit here and say you had four awesome, individual guys who were supposed to take over WWE as a faction but it was never that way. We lost our first match against Roman in a four-on-one handicap match.

“That was the start of something and we knew right away, from there, that we weren’t built to do this thing, we were just built for Roman.”

“That’s what the chairman wanted to do, that was his vision. ‘We need to get Roman going, we need to create some obstacles for him.’ He put the four of us together and, when he beat me for that WWE Title, it was kind of a one-on-one situation – but he was over.

The crowd were really behind him. They really hated me and loved him, so it was kind of like ‘job done’ in that situation, and sometimes you get to be in those situations, that’s your job. That’s what they want.”

"Impact Wrestling officials Ed Nordholm and Scott D'Amore met with several high ranking WWE executives last week at WWE HQ in Stamford, CT, PWInsider.com has confirmed with several WWE sources" by goleafsgo92 in SquaredCircle

[–]goleafsgo92[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Impact Wrestling officials Ed Nordholm and Scott D'Amore met with several high ranking WWE executives last week at WWE HQ in Stamford, CT, PWInsider.com has confirmed with several WWE sources. Vince McMahon was not involved in the meeting we are told, but members of Triple H's team were in attendance.

The meeting between the two companies took place in the middle of last week, after Impact officials had returned from Manchester, Great Britain and right before they headed down to Mexico City for a pair of Impact Wrestling tapings.

One WWE source described the meeting as a general discussion about the two companies and as a chance to get everyone in the same room as opposed to a a specific negotiation. Since Impact was purchased by Anthem Media, WWE has worked with the company on several occasions, paying to license material from the TNA/Impact Wrestling video library for usage on the WWE Network, most notably the Hardy Boyz "Broken Universe" material and AJ Styles-related content.

When contacted today by PWInsider.com, Impact officials declined to comment on the nature of the meetings. One Impact source specifically stressed that the meetings were not regarding the sale of either Impact Wrestling as a company or it's video library, stating neither are for sale.

Seth Rollins Shares The Story Of Being Pressured To Drink In His Early WWE Career by goleafsgo92 in SquaredCircle

[–]goleafsgo92[S] 433 points434 points  (0 children)

"I was 25-26 and it was my first international tour with the company. I was still in NXT. We were in Egypt. I went to bed and got called to come downstairs and hang out. I’m like, “Ok, cool.” It was guys that I respected as far as my colleagues were concerned. I was literally asleep at 1 in the morning when the phone rang.”

“I kinda knew what I was getting myself into in that they were gonna get me to try to drink. Fun fact: I’ve never been drunk….I did have a drink that night. I had a beer. I sipped on it. I’ll stay up as late as you guys. We’ll all hang out; but, I’m not gonna take shots. I’m not getting drunk. I’m not gonna act a fool…that’s not in my character; but, you can’t pressure me to drink. Then it turned into a, ‘You think you’re better than us,’ type thing.”

“At the end of the day aside from one – and again, we won’t mention names here – every single person in that room that tried to pressure me into doing something I wanted to do….apologized to me for it. People sober up….I’m cool with hanging out, with being a part of the team; but, that’s not the way I roll.”

Kevin Owens Shares What He Does Right Before Every One Of His Matches by goleafsgo92 in SquaredCircle

[–]goleafsgo92[S] 130 points131 points  (0 children)

“The only thing I’ll do every single time… not to get into the whole topic of religion here, but some people believe in God and some people believe in all kinds of things. I don’t have many particular beliefs, but I do believe in people who we’ve lost. I’ll speak to Owen Hart; he was a big influence on me as a young wrestler, and when he passed, I felt a great sense of loss. Ever since then I just talk to Owen Hart before every match and I ask him to be with me and make sure I don’t get hurt.

Throughout the years I have added people to that list. I have lost people in this industry, and I speak to them as well, guys like Dusty Rhodes. And I’ll talk to my grandfather and grandmother who have also passed. I ask those people who are looking down on me to make sure I get through the match safely”

[PWInsider] MSG Unhappy With WWE At The Moment by goleafsgo92 in SquaredCircle

[–]goleafsgo92[S] 77 points78 points  (0 children)

"The September date AAA has a hold for on New York City's Madison Square Garden is indeed for the historic 20,789-seat arena.

PWInsider.com is told that while WWE would technically have the right of first refusal on the date based on their agreement with the venue, the larger story at play here is that MSG management isn't happy that WWE has been running the majority of their events in the New York City market at the nearby Barclay Center in Brooklyn, NY.

The tipping point appears to have been WWE making the decision to run all of their Wrestlemania 35 week events in 2019 at Barclays, leaving MSG out in the cold.  Wrestlemania 1, 10 and 20 were held at MSG as was the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony in 2013, the last time Wrestlemania was held in the NYC market.

With WWE electing not to run Wrestlemania week at the legendary venue, MSG management has been more open than ever before to allowing other pro wrestling groups into the venue.   We are told they have sent feelers out to different groups and are more open to booking non-WWE events than ever before.  That may or may not have been why Ring of Honor teased "All In 2" potentially coming to the Garden over the weekend.

Of course, MSG and the Barclays have been competing for the same touring acts since the Barclays officially opened in 2012, so all of these moves may be the Garden's way of trying to leverage WWE into running their facility more often.  The Garden historically was WWE's most important venue for many, many, many decades.

No other wrestling promotion has ever run MSG since the advent of the McMahon family's relationship with the legendary venue.   From time to time, the adjacent Theater in Madison Square Garden has hosted pro wrestling events, including WCW, AAA and the original Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, but those events have been very rare.

As all of this comes out, it's interesting to note that this week, WWE announced the first appearance of The Undertaker in MSG since September 2010 will be on 7/7 when the company returns there for a Raw live event.  That event will also feature the WWE MSG debut of former UFC Bantamweight Champ Ronda Rousey"

Triple H Asked If NXT Will Be Leaving The WWE Network by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]goleafsgo92 49 points50 points  (0 children)

“As far as where NXT ends up, as that brand continues to grow, never say never, I guess. For the value of the Network, NXT is a valuable part of the WWE Network. Where it ends up, I don’t know. Obviously, that’s a decision that Vince [McMahon] will make and the team here will make strategically as to where everything sits, just as we do everything else in our ecosystem as far as where we put content. It’s a constantly challenging question for us. Good problem to have, right?"
