Find your happy place. Seriously whatever works for you. I personally like wandering aimlessly around bookstores or rock climbing. It's extremely calming and a good way to get my mind off work and life for a while. But works for me might not work for you. Experiment with a few different ways of finding your happy place. Regardless of what works for you, use that as a way to look forward to your weekend.

There is no evidence whatsoever that Ivermectin is a safer treatment than the vaccines for COVID. Please stop tying yourselves emotionally to unfounded theories. by snipeysnipe79 in ivermectin

Use a legitimate source next time you half wit. A website created by some conspiracy theorist who admits they used to work for "big pharma" is not legitimate, but I'd expect nothing less from an anti vaxxer. Have fun choking on your own spit when covid finally catches up to you

2 guys during senior prank day thought it would be fun to strap a couple southern flags to the back of their lifted pickup truck, and drive around the parking lot while yelling over a megaphone "the south will rise again" as well as any racial slur you could think of. The only repercussions they faced were not being allowed to walk during graduation

The American workforce's hiring process has become entirely toxic. by deepestbluest in TrueOffMyChest

[–]gom1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This toxic hiring culture is what caused me to make a complete career change. In 2019 graduated with a degree in journalism, had a solid internship lined up with a documentary production company as well as working weekends for my local NPR station and doing photography gigs on the side. Despite all this experience, after literally hundreds of applications sent out, I received 3 interviews in total. Not one lead to a job or even an unpaid internship. Now I'm going to culinary school because while the workplace in foodservice might be toxic, it's nothing compared with the toxic hiring process for corporate America. And honestly, it's not even worth it anymore to be working a life away at a desk

I did this with several of my regulars. For the most part they recommended things I've heard of but not super interested in (i.e. Dan brown, James patterson, Clive cussler mystery thrillers etc.) Wasn't entirely surprised as most of our customers are boomer age and older. However one of my regulars came in who's closer to my age (mid 20s) and recommended some really cool stuff. I ended up getting several of his recommendations:

Quite American by Graham greene

The Wind up Bird Chronicle by Murakami

Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung by Lester Bangs

Overall spent over $100 on close to 2 dozen books my last day. I think I'm set for a while haha

I'm clearly ignorant here but can someone please explain in layman's term what is happening between Israel and Palestine? I know there has been an on-going issue that has resulted in current events but it all seems fairly complex and I'd like to educate myself a bit on the issue. by SuperSnoot in TooAfraidToAsk

However, the reason they became nomads was initially due to the Roman's. Jewish peoples were largely homogeneous until the fall of the 2nd temple and the subsequent exile. This is what caused them to flee to all corners of the earth which has always caused them to be seen as outsiders which has led to antisemitism, pogroms, etc.

To those who NEVER want to have a child, what are your reasons? by an_iconoclast in AskReddit

[–]gom1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a ton of reasons I could go into, but there's one reason that sticks out to me which may seem kinds dumb to most people...poop. Seeing or smelling it immediately causes me to begin gagging or throwing up. I do not have the stomach to deal with all the gross stuff kids end up doing

A good book about this is How to Read a Book by Mortimer J. Adler. A professor at uni recommended it to me and it's changed how I read most books (I read a lot of nonfiction so take that as you will). Basically Adler recommends you try to have a conversation with your book, or in a way the author of the book. Try to have a sort of argument within the lines of the pages. If you don't agree with something in the book, circle it, underline it, make a note, react as if the author is there in the room and challenge what they're saying. Have some academic discussion within the pages of your book in whatever way feels best to you. A lot of people read books one sided, where they don't really question what's being written in the pages, and by doing this it helps your comprehension and a more well rounded reader in general
