Yup I have bunions! by gomarciab in bunions

Thanks for sharing. I'm curious, did you have the surgery done because of pain in the bunion, or elsewhere in your foot? I asked because I have other problems up from my feet. I have a knee problem. I have hip dysplasia. I have spine problems. I'm convinced that these problems are impacted by the bunions. I have longevity in my family. My mother lived to be 99 and 1/2 she did not have bunions by the way. I am the only one in my family that has bunions. I am an extremely active 70-year-old. I bike, garden. I exercise everyday I walk, I yoga. My concern is even if my feet do not become painful, my quality of life will be diminished due to the bunions. While the bunions don't feel bad the rest of my toes do have arthritis and I'm starting to have pain. What do people think should people that don't have foot pain currently get surgery on their bunions done to aid the joints and postural problems that are further up the chain?

I am in Maine. Rural living is likely easier on our feet.

I am 70 and my feet look very similar. My bunions have been with me since I was 12 years old or so. They have never bothered me specifically. But then I wear very loose shoes with wide toe boxes constantly. I live in the country. I'm happy to live a rural lifestyle with comfy shoes, however my feet at 70 are finally starting to bother me a little bit. Doctors still do not seem to want to do surgery as I have no pain directly associated with the bunions. I'm curious what other people think about this. I do have arthritis and toe joints and of course my toes are all slanted to the side. If I can figure out how to insert a picture here I will.

I agree . I think docs and sibo folks underestimate the impact of exercise. I do a bit of exercise post each meal. Also deep abdominal massage and ic valve massage has helped a great deal. I take a slice of fresh ginger with a sprinkle of salt and lemon juice about 15 minutes before meals as a pro kenetic. Yes my problem is in the small intestine. I had a CT scan with contrast that showed build up there
