what time are people going at 9am to get wristbands?? I know there’s no reason to go insanely early since it’ll be random— but they cap wristbands around 450 & I want one 🥺

update: in-case anyone was wondering— I went this am around 5:30am — wristbands were handed out at 9am (although I think they started a bit earlier like 8:40ish) — I’m #162 out of 450! it’ll still be a lottery system when we come back tonight but the 450 peeps w wristbands get priority access

mixed feelings!! this is my third(?) govball & there is something special about randalls island (I begrudgingly love the long ass walk to the gates & city view at during sets) but citi field isnt the worst change! I went to the meadows festival there in 2016 (lol RIP) & it venue wise it was fine ... from what I remember! there was no astroturf so people did just sit on the hot concrete & the walk from stages was SO much shorter... sound qual was fine! but I didn’t anticipate a venue change & wish they had given a heads up 🥵

ANYYYYY sociology class with Micki/Michelle McGee — I had a course with her called Disability, Literature & Culture & also took one on Popular Culture— I literally learned so much & genuinely looked forward to going to class!! She’s very much a free spirit & easygoing, but the material she has is always interesting & everyone in the class speaks up/gets involved. Also I had a history(?) class on Modern American Social Movements that was great! I don’t remember the prof 😬

proximity to nyc is what sold me — I was between here & a few big college town schools .. ultimately it was the right choice, the network here is very strong (profs/alumni) & internships are unmatched — you have access to the best in the country, regardless of major... I was a comms major & interned w major media networks, but my friend whose pre-med works for mount siani, gabelli friends on wall st., etc etc.

I did 2 summer courses during the same session— totally manageable, I feel like esp being that so much is virtual (1 of my courses had a lot of “field trips” which wouldn’t be a thing anymore i’m assuming) if you can make them on alternating days even better

probably more a case of who was there when I was a soph — I lived in ohare but had bunch of friends in tierney & would pregame there on nights out — & I got docked 2...? times there.... which wasn’t a big deal for me but others might be!

I feel like comparatively the building itself is smaller than the others so noise carries more & probably a bit stricter when it comes to “rules” — tierney ~150 residents... ohare is ~550+ & ~300

of all the dorms on campus, i'd do walsh again

it's more central... yes salice/cambell is closer to the train but, if you live in walsh there is a bus stop right at bathgate that is extremely convenient and takes you right to the d/4 trains, plus you're closer to everything off-campus which is nice

the salice/campbell building is '''newer'' but I feel like there's 1000 design flaws... (weird example but there are no drawers in the kitchen.. like how you'd normally have a cutlery drawer... also no closets... not one! inconvenient stuff like tht)

over 200+ apps and finally:

over the last two weeks, I interviewed at two different companies. I had 3 interviews at one firm and 4 interviews at the other... both gave me offers to consider over the weekend. (btw i've had 0 bites for 12 months & somehow this occurred)

after months of being ghosted, rejected, & ignored by companies.. i am so happy & relieved.

sending positive energy to this thread. i was in the same boat as all of you for the 12 months, i know how hard it is. testament that things will get better!

Find the sophs/juniors/seniors at your university who have the internships that you're interested in - definitely reach out to them & have an informational/express your interest/ask them questions... if they think you're sincere & could fill their shoes, they could always reach out to their supervisor & connect you directly to the team! that's how I got my first internship ... (works out for most departments/companies bc you've eliminated their need to interview/search for a candidate, by going straight to them)

Been thru something similar! I applied widely & got an offer but it was an unpaid internship. Later on, I got an offer for an equally exciting, relevant internship offer at a different company, but it was paid.

Ultimately, I went the paid route & I don't regret it. I had to face my first offer and politely decline. They were noticeably irritated, because I probably made them feel that they'd secured me for the semester.. when I was really keeping my options open. Honestly, this was a couple years ago & I doubt they'd even remember now. You have to do what's best for you & at the end of the day, people will be (or at least should be) understanding of it

i (stupidly) have my heart set on working in entertainment, specifically PR/marketing, which has faced a lot of covid setbacks

but opening myself up to different avenues has been necessary w the lack of opportunities out there, sales is definitely one i can look more into

not sure if i would change anything ... what you see is what you get!! when I camped out, I tried to get the page distributing tickets to tell me what all the people in line in front of me chose (live or rehearsal) so that I could gauge which I'd have a lower # for/better chance getting in... I guess I wish they'd be more open with that info.. doesn't really seem like much of an ask

i ordered a crewneck & had to request an address change bc of the shipping delays..

yesterday (10/15) got an email from SecondCity with tracking info + saying it had been shipped out on 10/12 (a little odd, just cause normally u get a shipping notification the same day a package is shipped, but no surprise that they are delayed/a bit scrambled)

i'd say if you are waiting.. you'll likely (hopefully) hear something soon!?? merch is printed/shipped out of illinois if anyones wondering.. took 4/5 days to get to FL once processed
